AEROSMITH Guitarist: STEVEN TYLER Really Wants To Go Off And Do Some Other Projects" - Nov. 1, 2009
The National reports: Recording sessions for AEROSMITH's 15th studio album were initially scheduled before the band's recent ill-fated tour, but have now been pushed back indefinitely while various members concentrate on solo projects. Guitarist Joe Perry is clearly frustrated at this shift in AEROSMITH's established routine.

"Steven [Tyler, vocals] really wants to go off and do some other projects," Perry shrugs. "But if AEROSMITH want to be viable and deliver to the fans what should be delivered, we need to do a studio record with some new material and do a tour behind it. That would have been standard operating procedure until about six years ago. I know he loves to play live in front of AEROSMITH, or at least I know that's what he used to love to do. But I guess now he wants to do other things, which is fine as long as it's planned out, so the rest of the band can plan their lives around it."

How are they not able to talk this through internally, but instead keep talking to the press about it. I guess things really aren't well in the Aero-camp.

Sounds like Perry is just jealous. Joe...look around. A TON of singers go off and do their own thing. Don't worry. He'll come back to you and the boys, and you guys will tour arenas again. These prima-donnas are how old, 50's and 60's? And they still don't know how to sit down and talk man to man? What a joke. By the way, Joe....your last few albums have sucked big time. The last one I personally bought was Get A Grip. You all need to get a grip and realize your day in the sun has since set.

..Joe; he can tell us what he wants to do just fine, you gossipy old hairdresser!

You're making him look like he's taking the high road every time you speak out publically (& really he's not having to lift a finger to do so)!

Don't say it's for the rest of the band to plan their lives either--they're keeping band business where it belongs too--within the band!

Or not. You can do a show and actually perform (and not cancel). And people will show up. People don't care for a new record, I think. They want to hear the old tunes live.

After nearly 40 years of recording and touring, it's done. Time to take the time to do something different and enjoy the remaining years of possible touring and recording. I just saw Perry in Hollywood and it was awesome. Much better than the last few times I saw Aerosmith. There's no doubt that Tyler's got something else in him besides Aerosmith or maybe not.

The Stones, KI$$ and a number of 40+ year career bands just get stale and redundant, formulaic at best when it comes down to it. I have no problem with a band hanging it up after such a long career. It's when a band continues just for the sake of money that it really grinds my gears.

absolutely ridiculous that man who has been alive as long as Steve Tyler and has had the success he has still fights the drug battle.

If the "established routine" has come to mean repeatedly putting out albums written by outsiders, then I for one would welcome a shift in this routine...

Aerosmith needs to pack it in, or just go out and perform classic albums. They haven't produced anything noteworthy in at least a decade and I don't see why they would start now
