SLAYER Postpones 'Canadian Carnage' Dates, 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!' Appearance
- Nov. 2, 2009
|
|
It is with great regret that SLAYER announces the postponement of its "Canadian Carnage" tour with MEGADETH, which was due to begin on November 8. In addition, the band announces the postponement of its appearance on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!", which had been set for this Wednesday, November 4. More information will be released shortly regarding the rescheduling of the Canadian dates, as well as the "Kimmel" appearance. SLAYER's Tom Araya is currently under the care of a specialist for a back injury, thought to be related to his on-stage activity, and the physician has ordered an immediate surgical procedure to take place in Texas tomorrow (Tuesday, November 3) morning. "What is foremost in our minds right now is that Tom do whatever he needs to to get this taken care of," said SLAYER's Kerry King. "While all four of us are disappointed that we won't be able to see through all of our commitments set for the next few weeks, the most important thing is Tom's health. We thank the fans in Canada and here in L.A., the MEGADETH camp, and everyone associated with 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!' for their understanding. We look forward to seeing you all soon." SLAYER's Kerry King, Jeff Hanneman and Dave Lombardo are looking forward to meeting their fans at a previously announced in-store appearance this Wednesday, November 4 at 3:30 p.m. at the Hot Topic store located at the Hollywood and Highland complex. SLAYER's "World Painted Blood" is released tomorrow, November 3.

Slayer has the WORST luck whenever they've released a new album the past decade.
GHUA came out on 9/11.
When Christ illusion came out, they had to cancel a bunch of dates because Tom had to get gall bladder surgury. (I think his father also died around that time).
Now this....

...but in reality, Slayer have been relentless road dogs forever...I believe the first time they EVER had to cancel a show was in 2006, when Tom required gallbladder surgery.
I mean, for all the shows they had played up until that point, to NEVER have canceled a gig is really impressive.
This does suck big-time, but Tom is 48...I'm amazed that all of them have managed to headbang for 25+ years without blowing out their necks or backs, considering that none of them work out or look after their physical health too much.
Hope he gets well and they manage to complete the promotional tour for World Painted Blood at some point...but after this go-around, I think we're going to have to sadly start contemplating life in the metal community without Slayer.

I enjoy headbanging hard and fast as much as the next metalhead, but that shit will catch up with you eventually. In the long run, it's really not worth the potential for injury. Think about how many guys that age still headbang...
Angus Young? Well...that's one freak of nature, I'll give you that. He's only 5'2", so he's got a low center of gravity and his back can probably handle the strain.
Glenn and KK? They've been headbanging a long time, but they never did it violently.
The guys in Maiden don't headbang...Geezer Butler headbangs a little, more of a head nod...and even Metallica stopped headbanging, probably more to get away from the "metal cliche" than for health reasons, but Hetfield has back problems anyway, so he probably did stop for that reason too.
Look at what happened to Phil Anselmo from the years of abuse he put on his body.

Hmm, wonder if he'll use the same surgeon who operated on King Diamond's back??? KD lives in the metro Dallas area, and Tom's ranch is just down the road from Dallas.

Obviously, I wish Tom a speedy recovery but this was bound to happen to one of them eventually. That kind of excessive headbanging they do was bound to catch up with them at some point. At least the instore is still happening. I hope these cancellations won't affect their sales too much.
I wouldn't be surprised if the European dates coming up in a couple of weeks time are postponed too.

I predict the only dates that will be affected are the ones with Megadeth. Mark my words.
If The Big 4 Tour never happens, you can thank Slayer for that shit.
Within a week of the rumor breaking, they publicly slam all the acts except for Metallica.
They talked about Anthrax being 'in pieces for years' and that they shouldn't even be on the bill.
(By the way, they are performing with John Bush at festivals...)
Next thing they did was slam Mustaine, and try to egg him into a shit-fest...
Anthrax says 'don't know if it's happening, but we're in if it does!!"
Of COURSE MegaDave wants it to happen (for obvious reasons)..
The only fly in the ointment was these guys.
THAT is why they've never made it through that ceiling you've built for yourselves....and at your age, it's to late to change, apparently, because you still haven't learned.
Way to paint yourself into a corner, boys.
That SUCKS, too, because Slayer music is really fucking good, and should be heard by way more people on this planet.

That's a total misreading of what's going on.
Slayer and Megadeth have been playing shows together for a few months now...everything's gone fine, no bad blood, nothing.
Face it: Tom is 48-years old with some serious mileage on his body from all the touring. This was inevitable.

I am 35 and suffered a lot from headbanging I did over a decade earlier. Headbanging can (will) mess up your neck, shoulders and upper-back severly and it's only later you'll experience the real pain of it all.
Careful with the windmill, kids!

Is fully loaded with cock.
Tom and Dave are both 48 and are experiencing the breakdown of their bodies after years of this lifestyle. Everyone is affected differently and at different times. But it's no wonder both guys have been dropping hints of possibly hanging up their instruments soon. Plus Tom HATES being away from his young kids, and they and the wife only travel with them in the summer when there's no school.

Then don't book a fucking tour of you miss your kids.
There's tons of people who won't be able to fill that time with work, (roadies, drivers, etc) since that shit is booked far in advance, and they need that money, unlike the guys in Slayer.
What about THEIR kids, who now gotta deal with their daddy making less $$?
and who said Back Surgery? You are all assuming...
The article said 'being treated', not 'getting surgery'.. could be a chiropractor visit with a happy ending for all you know!
