NIGHTWISH Keyboardist Earned More Than $500K In 2008 - Nov. 2, 2009
According to Keskisuomalainen, NIGHTWISH mainman/keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen (who writes most of the band's music and all of its lyrics) earned 379,210 euros (approximately $560,000) in 2008 — more than double his 2007 taxable income, which was 185,934 euros (approximately $274,000).

NIGHTWISH played a special homecoming show on September 19 at the sold-out, 11,000-capacity Hartwall Arena in Helsinki to mark the end of the band's colossal "Dark Passion Play" two-year world tour. Support at the gig came from APOCALYPTICA.

NIGHTWISH is not expected to play any more shows until the release of the band's next studio album.

NIGHTWISH's previous concert at the Hartwall Arena in October 2005 was recorded and released as the highly successful "End Of An Era" DVD.

"Dark Passion Play" has reportedly sold nearly one million copies worldwide since it came out in September 2007.

NIGHTWISH will release an eight-CD box set, "Lokikirja", on November 18. The package, which is now available for pre-order at the band's official webstore, features the following recordings:

* Angels Fall First (Remastered)
* Oceanborn
* Wishmaster
* Over The Hills And Far Away
* Century Child
* Bless The Child
* Once
* Dark Passion Play

"Made In Hong Kong (And In Various Other Places)", the most recent CD/DVD from NIGHTWISH, entered the German Media Control chart at position No. 15. It also opened at No. 2 in Finland and dropped down to No. 5 in its second week of release.

Released on March 13 via Nuclear Blast Records, "Made In Hong Kong (And In Various Other Places)" contains a DVD documentary (with a running time of approximately 45 minutes) of NIGHTWISH's world tour in support of the band's latest album, "Dark Passion Play", as well as a CD featuring live recordings from the trek. The documentary footage was directed by Ville Lipiäinen.

THANK YOU BLABBERMOUTH! This was something I really wanted to know for years =D. Know I can finally sleep well at night..
[/sarcasm]
But really, what does it matter what he earns?
Although it has one plus point. I don't have to feel guilty about "buying" there albums for free.. He wouldn't miss my 10 Euro =D
(Just joking)

Oh, this will matter to his brainless fangirls I suppose; now they can masturbate over both his tormented soul (lol) AND his sweet money.

It's so hard to make a decent amount of money in the music industry nowadays...so good for him. Still find it gay though that the Finnish tabloids have absolutely nothing to talk about so they go fishing through Holopainen's tax records...

Is it just me, or does that number seem actually fairly Low? I would think that one of the biggest bands in Europe, and having toured extensively through the last year would have generated a few more dollars. Still a LOT more than I pulled in last year, but I s'pose long gone are the days of Rock Stars being paid the big bucks.

While half a mil. last year is an insane amount of money, especially for a musician, and makes for a luxurious existence indeed, im actually surprised it was *that* low. Nightwish are hugely popular in Europe (not just their native Finland). You would think the main songwriter/only lyricist in the band would be making at least a cool mil a year. Not saying they shouldnt be proud of this success, not sayin it at all...im just saying im actually surprised it isnt more.

379 210€ seems like a fair income to me, considering the fact that the last album cost 500 000€ to make, and the two music videos cost 270 000€, adding up to 770 000€.

Good to know that they actually spend the money on the music.

Well, we all know anything that sells to 8 year old girls leads to profit. When they open for Miley he can buy all the eye liner he wants.
