SYSTEM OF A DOWN Members Reunite For Halloween Performance
- Nov. 2, 2009
|
|
Three members of SYSTEM OF A DOWN — Daron Malakian (guitar, vocals), Shavo Odadjian (bass) and John Dolmayan (drums) — plus SCARS ON BROADWAY's Franky Perez performed three songs (including SOAD's "Suite-Pee" and SCARS ON BROADWAY's "They Say") at Shavo's Halloween party at the Roxy Theatre in West Hollywood, California on Saturday (October 31). Check out photos by ErikVoake.com at this location. Fan-filmed video footage of the "Suite-Pee" performance can be viewed below. In October 2008, Malakian announced via SCARS ON BROADWAY's web site that the band's headlining tour — which included an appearance on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" — was being cancelled, with no plans of rescheduling. Malakian cited his lack of enthusiasm and "his heart not being into touring" as the chief reasons behind the decision to call off the trek. "The music of SCARS will live on, but now is a time when aspects of my life need to be tended to," he said in a statement. SCARS ON BROADWAY sold just under 24,000 copies of its self-titled debut album in the United States during its first week of release to debut at position No. 17 on The Billboard 200 chart. This number represented roughly 36 percent of the 66,000 opening tally registered by "Elect the Dead", the debut solo effort from SYSTEM OF A DOWN lead singer Serj Tankian, which came out in the fall of 2007 through the Warner Music Group. "Scars On Broadway" has shifted just 78,000 copies in the United States since its July 29, 2008 release, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

unless Serj and Daron are onstage together. They are apparently the ones who fell out, thus causing the hiatus, so for the other 3 members to play together, kinda meaningless since seemingly they all get on anyway!

We'll see what happens next. My hope is to see SOAD back in summer 2010. There has been some speculations lately but nothing more than that.

Daron is still a fucking junkie. The rest of the band are all great guys, especially Shavo. But sometime after Toxicity dropped, Daron became a total nutcase. Funny what Heroin will do to you.

Darren looks like shit in that video, complete junkie. The guys in SOAD were never shy about their usage of weed and psychedelic drugs, but man Darren has that alcoholic heroin addict look to him. I doubt that SOAD will ever get back together, Serj has already proven that he can have a successful solo career without all of Darren's bullshit, so why would he go back other than for money? Which I doubt he would do. This strikes me as a Morrissey vs. Johnny Marr type feud. Both sides are being douchey but one side has nothing to gain from a reunion.

debut was amazing, but they got steadly worse after that IMO. People argue they 'matered', but who the fuck wants 'maturity' for a band like SOAD? As far as i'm concerned, they just got soft; contained, and controlled by the corporate machine. You can't tell me that 'Toxicity' didn't sound like their wings were clipped.
I really don't care if this band reforms or not.

SOAD wont be back for a while unless Daron begs Serj. Daron is screwed because Scars failed and although Serjs album wasnt by any means good, he is writing and preparing to record his second this year. So be late 2010 or early 2011 before they get back together.

To be frank I couldn't listen to their first record as it to me was a bunch of heavy riffs and senseless, unnecessary screaming. Then when Toxicity came out and I heard what a wonderful vocalist Serj was along with the excellent songwriting by Malakian, I became a fan. Then every record after that has been solid (albeit I don't like Malakian's vocals being so present on the last double-set). I finally went back and listened to the first record and now it's palatable but my least favorite.
I'd like to see them reunite with Serj clearly taking lead vocals and Malakian being his backup/harmonizing vocalist.

Welcome back i say, i really enjoyed all the SOAD albums and i thought the Scars On Broadway album was ace! All the people saying Malakian is a junkie alchohoic and source of the problems in SOAD then why is it the only one missing is Serj here and the rest of the band are together playing? I'd much rather listen to SOB than Serj's solo effort any day. If Malakian is writting again then i hope its another SOB album.

I love System of a Down. I pray that this leads to a reunion because Mezmerize/Hynotize seems like its 20 years old now.....To all the SOAD haters, if you don't like them, then STFU. They may not be the definition of metal music, but its good music and lyrically far better than most. Some people that comment on this site are dumb as hell. Just because their not the most headbanging band in metal (althought their self-titled is pretty heavy) doesn't mean they suck.

Alright everyone on here seems to hate Daron, but he is awesome. I know he uses drugs, but really who in the music industry hasn't? Plus Serj is the one who doesn't want to do SOAD again. Daron, John, and Shavo were all there. I thought all their albums were great and I did love Serj's solo album, but I thought Scars on Broadway was better.
P.S. Daron's astronaut costume is awesome!

...dear SOAD, please please PLEASE reunite!!!! A new CD in the vein of Toxicity would be amazing, that's to this day one of my 5 favorite CDs of all time. Really liked Mesmerize/Hypnotize, but I thought Daron sang too much on it, and I wasn't a huge fan of the guitar tuning/tone.
Unfortunately, I agree with an earlier post when he said that a reunion wouldn't occur until at least a year from now, probably more like summer 2011, thanks to Serj's new CD. At least his solo stuff doesn't suck like Scars on Broadway. I definitely think Daron's drug issues are the biggest obstacle to Serj wanting back in, so he needs to realize System is more than worth getting clean for.
It figures the year I started loving SOAD enough that I'd pay to see them was 2006. Denver wasn't part of Ozzfest that year (we just got a Disturbed/A7X off date at our amphitheater that usually holds, yep, Ozzfests. It was a great show, but still) >_<

Failed after their first album, simple as. Yeah some of Toxicity was pretty good but still a fail in my humble opinion. I hope they do get back together and produce and album as technically brilliant as their first outing. Unfortunately I just don't feel that will happen.
There a re two egos in this band, the first is Daron Malakian's, he's never been clever and he's pretty awful live, having seen System a good number of times here in the UK I can safely say the world is not an empty place without them. The second Ego is that of Serj's, yeah I heard his solo outing and it's nothing special. They were better as a team, I don't particularly care who began this hiatus of System, but I can say I hope they don't get back together as their last couple of albums were pretty ghastly.
I know i'll get a torrent of abuse from a bunch of kids who can barely remember when the first album came out, therefore won't remember it's impact upon release and just how disappointing the second album was.
No worry
Enjoy

This needed Serj, even if he is just a puppet. It hurts me to like these guys. Inconsiderate to the fans. After seeing them live I saw what a wreck this band is. Daron just sat up there and played one high pitch note over and over again for 5 minutes spewing some bs about he can do whatever he wants. I do however like their music.
