SLASH Signs European Deal With ROADRUNNER RECORDS - Nov. 3, 2009
Roadrunner Records has announced the signing of legendary VELVET REVOLVER/ex-GUNS N' ROSES guitarist Slash for the forthcoming European release of his debut solo album, "Slash", in spring 2010.

"Slash" will see Roadrunner Records enter into a unique and innovative association with a U.K. media partner — the special-interest media group Future. In a brand new concept in record distribution the standard album release will be preceded by a "fan pack," in which the Roadrunner Records album will be bundled together with a highly collectable special issue of Future Publishing's Classic Rock magazine dedicated to Slash's career. This will be the first format of the album available anywhere in the world.

Slash will release a two-track CD single in Japan on November 11 containing the song "Sahara" (featuring singer Koshi Inaba of the Japanese hard rock duo B'Z) and a version of the GN'R classic "Paradise City" (featuring CYPRESS HILL and Fergie [a.k.a. Stacy Ann Ferguson] of the BLACK EYED PEAS).

"Sahara" is expected to appear on Slash's forthcoming solo album. According to the guitarist, "the [record] is in its mixing stage and the mixes to this point sound great. We have recorded 18 songs, with one more I want to track." He added, "the record is still slated for a February/March release."

Video footage of Slash talking about his collaboration with Koshi Inaba during a Japanese TV interview can be viewed below. (Note: The "Sahara" track can apparently be heard in the background.)

Slash tracked most of the CD with former NINE INCH NAILS drummer Josh Freese and ex-JANE'S ADDICTION bassist Chris Chaney. Other confirmed guest singers so far include Ozzy Osbourne, AVENGED SEVENFOLD's M. Shadows and Chris Cornell (SOUNDGARDEN, AUDIOSLAVE). The CD was produced by Eric Valentine (GOOD CHARLOTTE, QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE) and features additional appearances by ex-GUNS N' ROSES drummer Steven Adler, RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS bassist Flea and former NIRVANA drummer and current FOO FIGHTERS frontman Dave Grohl.

Slash left GUNS N' ROSES in the mid-'90s, forming SLASH'S SNAKEPIT before later assembling VELVET REVOLVER with several other ex-members of GUNS N' ROSES and STONE TEMPLE PILOTS singer Scott Weiland (who was dismissed in April 2008).

Slash, please, don't turn your back on your REAL fans. No one is going to buy crap like that single with Fergie. You don't need Mr. Shadows on your records either. You don't need alternative prom queens like Weiland on your bands.

Call Axl. Fix your bullshit with him. Bring Steven and Duff. And beg Izzy to get out of his private motorcycle circuit and tour with GUNS N' ROSES for the last time !!!

Haven't you talked with Page recently? It sure the last ever tour didn't happen mostly because John is not with us anymore, but as Plant stated in two or three interviews, he is not 20 years anymore and he knew he wasn't going to be able to perform without losing dignity and tarnishing the memory of the band. You are still in your mid 40's and still kicking ass, but everybody knows than in a few years the performance is going to be very different from what we remember.

I mean, I don't even think you are doing this for the money. You have plenty of it and your past is gold. How much did pay you Rihanna anyway? Sure she is popular, but she is not Mick Jagger. And you know her fans care shit about who fucking old ex druggie guitar player is in her new video. It's not the type of fans that stand by their favorite musicians forever. It's these type of people that listen what is fashionable. You'll be forgotten in two days if you decide to go mainstream like that.

I don't know...

maybe HE wants to do it.
Where were his fans when he was doing the Snakepit or VR? I say he should totally do what feels right, and if that includes making songs for popstars then go for it

VR's debut sold around 4-5 million copies worldwide, so i'm not sure where you are going with that one. 'Fans' stayed away from the Snakepit because it was like GNR style rock with an ordinary singer.

I agree with both of you though. Maybe he 'wants' to do it, because he needs to feel that he is 'with it', or something, but all those guests won't help him sell many records.

i mean, for real, who the fuck wants to hear Paradise City with Fergie?

People:
Are you famous artists?
Are you who need to keep alive in this new World where people aren't buying records and aren't listening too much rock?

First of all, Slash is a guitar player who likes to play guitar, not only Hairy/Metal/Hard Rock guitar. As a truly guitarist he likes to play, it doesn't care who he wants to play with. To say that if he plays with Fergie or with Adam Lambert (I he someday do it?) is a shame is not true, he can play with anybody that he likes, I don't see why all this stupid comments. He likes to play with a lot of people, he always have been that way, that's nothing new, he's never been a mind closed rock player.

I find people talking bullsh*t about he's not a true rock player anymore a really immature position.

And what is that he only cares for commercial things? That's his job you morons, you can't make records only for a few people. Do you realize how many cost a record? Much more now with all this piracy? That is a huge inversion and you can't throw that money without knowing if that record is going to sale. EVERY ARTIST GO TO THE POPULAR MUSIC, the only not popular music is the classical music. Even Pavarotti had to go with a popular festival. Some of you think artists only play for love of music, but that isn't more far from the truth. You can't always ask for your interests they have theirs. F*ck off everybody who thinks he's doing wrong. Although I think some things aren't good ideas, like a version of a classic like Paradise City (what for???) or the remake of any other GNR material, that isn't a reason to satanize him.

If it weren't for his love for playing he had been dissapear with Axl, and maybe he could have died of an overdose many years ago.

So, let the guy alone, he's doing a great job and he's doing what he likes to do and what is making him to stay alive. Some good material will come in that record. It's a record full of rock stars, and there's not a record like that in the history of rock. Do you realize that?

God bless Slash for his job, I hope to hear some great solos in that record!!!

you don't need to be famous to have opinions on an artist, especially on a site that's sole purpose is to comment on the topic...and rock musicians playing with other artists is fine, sometimes, other times its a money or attention grab, like Aerosmith playing with britney Spears & Justin Timberlake at the Superbowl, that, in my opinion, is completely lame. As much as I like Slash, it's a bit concerning that he's potentially selling out his musical integrity to play with...whomever.

If Fergie plays on his song, its a rocker & she plays his game, to me, that might work. If he plays a pop song to suit her, that wouldn't be good....but that is my opinion, and he has to live his life as he sees fit. And keep is career alive. I think its a fine line though, but again, I'm not famous, what do I know!

Signing WIth ROadrunner, Oh Boy, Not a Good Sign....

Thats not good, considering he's been with Majors for a while,

the industry must be F*(D if he has to sign with Roadrunner,

He's gonna have to rely on his Status more than decent promotion that for sure...
