It's a pardox, but the more you try to sound like Eddie van Halen, the less you'll sound like Eddie van Halen. A huge part of his style is the crazy, off-the-wall shit that he just throws out. To copy his runs note-for-note is kind of missing the point.

Ever listen to when Eddie does a cover song. Although it is the song, it still sounds like Eddie, where as most covers sound pretty damn close if not exactly like the original. Here is a video that teaches you to play like Eddie and yet Eddie cannot play like anyone else. However I have nothing but respect for his style. I thought he was great in the 80's, (0's and can't wait to hear the new stuff.
