BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME: 'The Great Misdirect' First-Week Sales Revealed - Nov. 4, 2009
"The Great Misdirect", the new album from the Raleigh, North Carolina-based progressive metalcore quintet BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME, sold 13,400 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 36 on The Billboard 200 chart.

"The Great Misdirect" was released on October 27 via Victory Records.

BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME vocalist Tommy Rogers recently told Noisecreep about the group's Jamie King-produced follow-up to 2007's "Colors", "It's definitely a step forward for us, I think. I don't know ... when we write records, we never want to repeat ourselves, and we definitely have done that. So, I was worried when we started writing this record that we were just going to end up with something that sounds like 'Colors', and that's definitely not the case."

According to Rogers, "The Great Misdirect" is "more dynamic than we've ever been." The band, he said, tried "different things" on this record, resulting in a rather equal mix of "mellow stuff and more intense stuff. It's definitely BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME," Rogers added. "That's the coolest thing about our records. No matter what we do, it still sounds like us."

He continued, "It's a little over an hour of material, and it's definitely a lot of music. The thing with us is — yeah, we do have long songs, but we just try to never have a lot of filler. Some bands will have long songs, but half of the song will be a lot of filler. On 'Swim to the Moon' [the last track on the disc, which clocks in at over 18 minutes], there's no downtime. We try to pack everything with music, because we like to give people their money's worth."

BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME will kick off a North American headlining tour on January 8, 2010 in Nashville, Tennessee. Support on the trek will come from CYNIC, THE DEVIN TOWNSEND PROJECT and SCALE THE SUMMIT.

BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME is featured in the first episode of "Hard" on the newly launched AUX music channel out of Canada. Watch the segment below.

I'm surprised enough by myself that I have not picked up this album yet, but I plan to very soon. BTBAM can do no wrong in my book, so whether or not The Great Misdirect can hold a stick to Colors (a tough feat for any band) my first thought is that this album will kick an insurmountable degree of ass regardless. I'm glad to hear the album sales are doing well though, it's very much deserved.

Also, holy SHIT that is going to be a pretty amazing tour. They've sold my ticket already if there's a South Florida show.

Resisted this band in past, never got past the 'Opeth meets Dream Theater' tag, figured I had enough of both of those bands, if I wanted to hear that sound. But this is a REALLY impressive cd, really holds your atttention despite length, and while the above description is a fair enough tag to describe the band to the unitiatied, they really are more than that. I'm sorry i've missed out all these years, and definitely intend to pick up their back catalog!

an amazing record, but not as revolutionary as Colors. It can be hard to listen to casually since 3 of the 6 songs are over 11 minutes.

i don't know where you heard the tag "opeth meets dream theater" for btbam. that doesn't aptly describe them in the least.

new album is a disappointment in my opinion. nowhere near colors...

...is really good.

Not as mind-blowing as "Colors," but really good.

I think the older Genesis comparisons are spot-on.

Haha, speaking of drums sound, it took 2 days to do all the drum tracks recorded (that's what they said in the DVD that came in the special edition). This is fuckin awesome. Great band, great album, and I'll be seeing them in Montreal in January for sure.

Been a fan of this band since they first signed to Victory and this is their first album that doesn't really do much for me. The musicianship is without a doubt fantastic, but that's all it is to me. Alaska will always be their masterpiece IMO, and is actually an even better album without vocals if you can get a hold of it in that form. I dunno, The Great Misdirect is a good album, but just hasn't excited me like their past efforts

I think what I love most about them is that until you memorize the entire album note for note, you'll get something new out of it every time you listen.
Colors is potentially my favorite album of all time. I'm still unsure if I like The Great Misdirect as much, though I do love it. We'll see what a few more months of listening bring, because that's how long it took me to digest Colors and Alaska.

Very well said Tasty...this band's music takes time to digest. I can't see how anyone could form a firm, cohesive opinion of this CD in a week. Colors didn't really gel to me until the 10th plus listen...then I really started to recognize it as the masterpiece that it is. I expect The Great Misdirect to unfold itself in the same way.

I hope the sales are good...I waited until this week so I could get the deluxe edition.
