Ex-MEGADETH Bassist ELLEFSON Discusses NORTHERN LIGHT ORCHESTRA Project - Nov. 6, 2009
RockMusicStar.com recently conducted an interview with former MEGADETH and current F5 bassist David Ellefson. During this chat, Ellefson discussed his involvement in the new Christmas project NORTHERN LIGHT ORCHESTRA. Listen to the interview in the YouTube clip below.

Ellefson performed with NORTHERN LIGHT ORCHESTRA in Phoenix, Arizona on April 17, 2009 at the Orpheum Theatre. The show was filmed for a DVD, entitled "The Spirit Of Christmas". Ellefson also played bass on the NORTHERN LIGHT ORCHESTRA album, which was released in on VSR/EMI.

Commented Ellefson: "Musically, NORTHERN LIGHT ORCHESTRA has some killer shredding combined with technical and theatrical arrangements ala QUEEN meets 'Jesus Christ Superstar'. Definitely something outside the box and is a lot of fun, and challenging at the same time."

According to the project's bio, NORTHERN LIGHT ORCHESTRA highlights majestic, orchestrated rock music featuring soaring vocals, incredible guitar solos worthy of true "guitar hero" status, and pounding rhythms sure to impress and invigorate the baby boomer generation that grew up on what is today classic rock!

Combined with the talents of executive producer and longtime record mogul Russ Regan, (responsible for over 800 million record sales with such artists as Neil Diamond, Elton John, and Barry White as well as soundtracks such as "Flashdance" and "Jesus Christ Superstar"), NLO is slated to become a seasonal live performance and recording entity that provides the very best in entertainment!

The brainchild of remix keyboardist/writer Brian Stewart (BACKSTREET BOYS, ROBERT PLANT, HALL & OATES, POE) and produced by industry veteran Ken Mary (HOUSE OF LORDS, TRIK TURNER, ALICE COOPER, BEACH BOYS), NLO is designed to create a total musical experience combining the powerful drama of Webber and Rice's "Jesus Christ Superstar" with the emotionally moving musical styles of ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA, YES, and KANSAS.

Vocalists and musicians appearing on NLO have been responsible for the sale of over 200 million albums worldwide and include members and former members of household names such as the BEACH BOYS, SLY AND THE FAMILY STONE, ALICE COOPER, SURVIVOR, STEELY DAN, FIREHOUSE, MEGADETH, SISTER SLEDGE, QUIET RIOT, VANILLA FUDGE, WINGER, BOB CARLISLE, GUNS N' ROSES, GRAND FUNK RAILROAD, KISS, HOUSE OF LORDS, and WHITESNAKE, just to name a few.

Live performances highlight a spectacular light and video presentation, theatrical movements, as well as incredible musicianship all assembled to tell the story of the birth of Jesus Christ over two thousand years ago.

I liked this band when it was called Trans-Siberian Orchestra better.

Pathetic that they're trying to pass it off as "The brainchild of remix keyboardist/writer Brian Stewart". It's pretty obvious they're trying to cash in on the success of TSO. Hardly a new idea.

if you're going to do something like that, at least don't blatantly rip off TSO.

"RockMusicStar.com recently conducted an interview with former MEGADETH and current F5 bassist David Ellefson. "

So glad you pointed out that Ellefson used to be Megadeth's bass player.
a) Everyone surely knows this he used to play bass for Megadeth.
b) If they don't know it, is it such essential information it has to be pointed out EVERY FUCKING BLABBERMOUTH ARTICLE that he's in?

No, it doesn't.

I have seen the live concert with NLO the band was awesome and the songs memorable. Lots of people will compare to TSO but TSO isnt trying to please for the same crowd NLO is these are bonafide guitar heros Doug Aldrich, Jason Hook, BillLeverty Bruce kulich Shane Gibson playing their ..... off faster then you can even think and the drummer Ken Mary from House of Lords plays with the best yes it is Christmas music yes they are called an Orchestra (17 people on stage) but that is where the similarity ends. Check out their tracks. They made a believer out of me and in case anyone is thinking they are trying to cash in MP3 are available free from their website 15 songs.

COMMENT | Great idea, already done by TSO!

Using Orchestra, as in Trans Siberian Orchestra, in your own band name (Northern Lights Orchestra) is ridiculous! What's next, Multideth?
