Joe Bosso of MusicRadar.com recently conducted an interview with Zakk Wylde ( OZZY OSBOURNE, BLACK LABEL SOCIETY). An excerpt from the chat follows below. MusicRadar.com: Of course, the other major thing that's happened in the last year has been your split with Ozzy... Zakk: "Well, I'll tell you how it went down. This is how it went down. Oz and mom ( Sharon Osbourne), they said, ' Zakk, son, we need to talk to you.' They sat me down at the kitchen table and said, ' Zakk, we're very proud of you, but you're 42 years old now. We just think it's about time you take your wife and your kids and you get the fuck outta your bedroom and grow the fuck up and get a job — because me and your mother want to enjoy our life now. I think we've done enough. You're 42, now get the fuck out of the house!'" MusicRadar.com: And make something of yourself. Zakk: "Yes! So that's where we're at right now. [laughs] That's what happened. As rough as it was for me, I had to accept it." [laughs] MusicRadar.com: Now, I know Ozzy is like family to you, but when it all did happen - I know you were kind of kidding — it seemed to take people surprise... Zakk: "Well, I found out from Neil Zlozower, 'cause he was doing a photo shoot with Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley. He calls up and goes, 'Hey dude, I hear you're not playing with Ozzy anymore.' I go, 'Where'd you hear this?" And he's like, 'I heard it from Gene and Paul.' So I go, 'Well, I guess I'm not playing with Ozzy!'" [laughs] MusicRadar.com: But was it a shock? Zakk: "It's always been this way: 'We're going out on the road.' It's like, 'When?' 'Tomorrow.' 'What?!' "I'm the last person to find out anything, you know? 'Wait a minute…I have three kids?' [laughs] 'Yeah, they're 17, 16 and 7, man, so we need some college money now.' "But I've been with Oz since I was 19; I'm fucking 42 years old. It's just like…like with my dad passing away, same with my mom…I don't go, 'Oh, this sucks.' I never ask; I always thank. "At least I got to spend 23 years with the boss. And he knows I'll always be there with him. Gus [ G., of FIREWIND], who's playing with [ Ozzy now], he's fucking awesome. I don't blame Zakk for getting pissed off. All he wanted was for Ozzy to straight up tell him that he was canned instead of dancing around the issue. I think he would have taken it mush more nicely if that's what happened. And even after that he still respects Ozzy and wishes well for him and his new guitarist. That's the thing about Zakk, he might have a somewhat douchey demeanor on stage with the now exhausted biker image, but in person, he's probably the most down to earth guy you'll ever meet.

Zakk is right - and he did abso-fucking-lutely amazingly in getting his own band with his own sound out there onto the same sized stages that Ozzy is playing. He might not have the name recognition he had without Ozzy, but no one can deny that BLS has become a force to be reckoned with on their own. Zakk is grown up, and he has become successful without Ozzy now.

Hey Zakk, No need to "church it up" son!! We know there has to be a little bit of resentment there but I know that there is also alot going on in your life other than being in Ozzy. Ozz is always trying to change every ten years or so. I would lift my head high and realize that there are millions of fans out there that think you are "The Man" in the guitar world right now and that they love ya bro.. Well it sounds like he's got his head together.
Okay, so OF COURSE he's putting the P.R. friendly corporate spin on what went down. That's just the way the music business works, but at the same time, I think he's cleared his head up from whatever the hell was ailing him (booze, drugs, whatever), and he's in a better place.

I don't like seeing Ozzy & CO. treat people like this, but you know what? I think Zakk can stand on his own two feet just fine with BLS. I'm not a huge fan or anything of BLS, but they do kick some ass.
And the reasons some of us here do not like the whole biker image thing, is not because he dresses like one and does in fact ride, it is because of the whole fake bottom and top rockers or whatever on the back of his jacket that imitate real bikers (but he has fake stuff written inside the rockers). Those of us who know what this stuff is really about tend not to like seeing someone kinda imitate it, so yeah I wish he's drop that part. But I still think he's a fine player and have respect for the guy. I saw him play back during NO MORE TEARS at the legendary shows on November 14 & 15, 1992 in Costa Mesa, Pacific Coast Amphitheater. 2 night in a row shows, with the final show being the original Black Sabbath line up (including Bill Ward). this is the Black Sabbath/Ozzy reunion that appears on the Ozzy Live and Loud DVD. Opening was Sepultura during the Arise album, followed by Black Sabbath with Rob Halford on vocals both nights. I'd rather seen Dio, but that was when he quit the Dehumanizer tour because he didn't want to open for Ozzy and the potential permanent reunion that looked like was going to happen (but didn't until a few years later). It was an incredible two night event. Zakk was amazing, didn't have the image that he does now. back then, he was the young kick ass guitarist, etc.
Hope this Guss guy can deliver the goods, and hope he brings something fresh to the table. Would have loved to seen Jake E. Lee come back, but oh well. Wonder how long Guss will last until he get's discarded as well.

"He don't need me no more", I believe were Ozzman's words. That's the truth. Ozzy doesn't have much of a run left in him and Sharon has turned him into all but a side show (tv show and recent WWE appearance).
Zakk is a capable musician. His ballads are just as good as his rockin and squealin stuff. "Book of Shadows" was a great album as was Pride n Glory.

Gus G-good guitarist but SUCKS live in comparision to Zakk
Gus isn't as heavy. Zakk may use pinch harmonics every two seconds but the entire show rocks to see him play. Now that he's not in the band, going to see Ozzy live is worthless without Zakk. Other than Ozzy, Zakk is the band. Take one of those two out and you have nothing. Sure Randy and Jake may be good, well Randy is phenomenal, but at the same time Zakk is light years above Gus G as far as song writing.

(in between guitarists)
Jake E Lee-fill in guitarists, with one badass song, bark at the moon

Good that Zakk has calm down but he is sugar coating it, that is for sure. I'm a huge Ozzy fan but I think this is way overdue, Down to Earth and Black Rain where good but not anything amazing. The last great Ozzy album was Ozzmosis. Ozzy's only got a few albums left in him and they should be something new and fresh. I wish Zakk the best and I hope he can sober up enough to record another really heavy album. Hopefully now BLS will get the recognition they deserve.

I remember this guy when he first started out with the Ozzy, he was a clean cut guy denied all drug use.....thats why I cant for the life of me believe this change that has transpired over the years. That is also why I beleive that he is still the same guy from back in the day and took it totally in the a** from those two Osborne Hollywood Hos. People dont change, anyone who believes they do has truly never payed any attention to their soroundings.

I am happy that Zakk is longer Ozzy's guitarist. It's been long overdue. I would like to think that Zakk now can focus more on his music rather than trying to write 2 dozen songs and whatever is left over from Ozzy becomes a BLS CD. The last couple BLS cd's didn't really blow me away like the earlier stuff does. Zakk can now do a bunch of things... Book of Shadows 2, Pride and Glory (wouldn't that be amazing!?!?!) and of course BLS. He's now in the driver's seat for the first time.
I hope that he can maintain his sobriety. As much as he gets bashed on here, not one of those who bash him wouldn't want to hang out with him. Deny it all you want, but when we all get boozed up, we get vulgar and act differently from who we really are..... we say shit and rarely realize what we've just said. So many of the things that alot of these musicians say, I don't take too seriously. I highly doubt that the guys we see and hear in interviews are really like that in their homelife.
As for Gus G... best of luck to him. I think that Gus is in a no win situation. Gus is going to have to write songs that make Ozzy sound good. As we all saw on the last cd, when Ozzy writes the songs, they don't turn out so well. Ozzy is one of the best front men of all time, he's just not a song writer.
