LEMMY Is Not Interested In Reunion Of Classic MOTÖRHEAD Lineup
- Nov. 6, 2009
|
|
The Belfast Telegraph recently conducted an interview with MOTÖRHEAD frontman Ian "Lemmy" Kilmister. A few excerpts from the chat follow below. On living life in the fast lane and possible retirement: "I can't think of anything better to do, can you? I can't see retirement being any better than running round the world chasing birds." On staying on the road for long periods of time: "Tours really blur after a while. But every tour's good, as long as you're not crippled!" On how many other veteran acts take five or more years between albums: "I think the band kind of dies about the third year in without another album. If I sold as many records as AC/DC, I'd do one every six fucking months!" On MOTÖRHEAD's influence, with everyone from METALLICA to Dave Grohl crediting the English rockers for having inspired them: "It's nice to be complimented. If we made somebody pick up a guitar and make music, then it can't be all bad." On resisting calls to reunite with guitarist "Fast" Eddie Clarke and drummer Phil "Philthy Animal" Taylor — the mob that recorded seminal metal masterpieces like "Overkill", "Bomber" and "Ace of Spades": "It wouldn't be fair on these two [current drummer Mikkey Dee and guitarist Phil Campbell]. These guys have played 'Ace of Spades' a lot more times than Phil [ Taylor] or Eddie did. We've been working too hard at this band now to put it on hold while I go fucking around with the other two. I'm loyal. I was loyal to Phil and Eddie, too, until they weren't loyal to me any more." On his lyrics, which continue to rail against the injustices of modern society: "It's all war and child porn. Mankind hasn't progressed beyond the caves. All we've got are bigger weapons. We can just kill our enemies from further away. We don't have to see what we did." Read the entire interview from Belfast Telegraph.

Phil THE ANIMAL TAYLOR is the man. he influenced so many drummers to start playing with some balls and more speed!!!!
.....but its nice to know LEMMY won't dump current loyal members for 1 short reunion tour. Although I LOVED seeing anthrax with JOEY, they should not ave dumped current members for a quick REUNION tour that didn't last long anyway

I like the current lineup better than the "classic" lineup, they're louder, heavier, faster, oh and better.
Can't wait for the new record, get in the studio and get it out.

The day Lemmy Hangs it up, will be when he dies.. I dare to say he will die on the road. The guy is a Fu*king legend imo. And Motörhead is one of the most influential bands ever. They truly deserve to be in R&R H.O.F. Even though R&RHOF is a total farce, based on record sales) Metallica is in.... And so aren't a lot of other "sell outs" craptastic bands.... with all that said, go sign this Petition to get Motörhead in. http://www.petitiononline.com/mtrhdhof/petition.html

Lemmy is a wise man. This lineup is the classic if you ask me. Why would anyone say Campbell sucks? He's great and perfect for this band. Dee is a drummer I've long admired since his days with King Diamond; a fucking monster behind the kit, and hugely influential. I was fortunate to meet and chat with Mikkey backstage at a festival they were playing about ten years ago. One of the nicest, down-to-earth, cool guys you could ever talk with. Even though the 'classic' lineup did some obviously great stuff, and were amazing for their time, this is the best and definitive Motorhead lineup.

Sticking with the actual lineup is the best decision Lemmy can make. Phil is an ok drummer but unreliable. It would be cool to have Eddie back, sharing the stage with Phil Campbell but i don't think their egos can get along.

HigherLearning- Because both bands you mentioned sold lots of albums? (probably after the Two bands had long stopped recording/ touring) Cant help to notice you did not list any other bands? like who?? Name a Punk, Hard Rock band, or metal band.. in the R&Rhof that has not had Mammoth sales of cd's albums and t-shirts...? You cant. Because there aren't any. The very fact that the Sex Pistols are in for ONE piece of shit record. Motörhead isn't in after 30+ years of touring.....is a injustice. And It exposes the R&Rhof for the sham that it is. So with that said..HigherLearning go try not to be dumb I suggest some ....well... Higher learning?

Actually deadboy, couple things. The Ramones had been releasing records and touring up until about 99 or 2000. So it certainly wasn't a long time after they stopped when they were brought in. They also didn't sell a massive amount of records. As for "t shirt sales" which aren't actually tracked, I see as many Motorhead shirts out there as I do Ramones. I'd venture to guess that in sales, draw, all that shit, the Ramones and Motorhead were very comparable acts (as well as good friends). I did mention those 2 acts because they were off the top of my head. You know the Sex Pistols have barely sold a million records in the US, right? As for some more inductees with JUST a little research who aren't MEGASELLERS: The Ventures Dave Clark 5 Sex Pistols The Dells Solomon Burke You can probably easily google a list of inductees, as I did. You'll see a bunch on there. As for specific "metal" and "punk" bands: the fact is, metal as a "genre" is only about 40 years old and punk 30. You have to be around for 25 to get in. It's going to take a while for more to get in. Metallica got in so soon due to the fact they're the biggest American rock band in the past 20 years, easily. Pretty simple shit, really.

Okay lets say 5% to 10% did not have Huge sales. Fact is, the votes are weak. They are made by corporate fat cats.. Do you vote? Sounds like you do the way you defend it... I mean come on Metallica over Motörhead.. is just stupid. Moreover The sex pistols get in .. and The Clash have not.... scratching my head on that one... And I don't need a History lesson, or a Google search to know what I am talking about.... I have Venom on Vinyl that's probably older than you. SO you keep studding the web about music. And I will be listening to and Playing it. over and out \m/

Deadboy- You should really stop. The Clash ARE in. And I'm not defending the voting; there's a LOT of bands who should be in there, but if you can't figure out why Metallica is in there before a lot of other metal bands, you're slow.
So you have old vinyl; good for you. It's not older than me, nor do you probably play or listen to more music than I do. Stop being a fanboy and trying being objective and thinking.

I met Lemmy in the Rainbow Room in LA. He was playing video poker so I asked to chat with him once he finished. I lost track and didn't want to bother him but he didn't forget. We sat down and chatted about random bullshit, songs, touring and the bands I love that he influnced. He was humble, witty, clever and sincere. The one line I'll never forget is when I thanked him for his music and said I hope he never stops making music. He replied, "You realize that when I die, there WILL be a short break between albums?"
I made it a point to meet dozens many bands. The ones I will always respect, Lemmy, Warrel Dane (Nevermore), Bruce (Iron Maiden) and Flotsam and Jetsam (all of them). These guys had the most genuine and real personalities.
