TRANSATLANTIC's PETE TREWAVAS Interviewed By Italy's MUSICA METAL - Nov. 6, 2009
Italian news blog Musica Metal recently conducted an interview with Pete Trewavas, bassist for the progressive rock supergroup TRANSATLANTIC (which also features Mike Portnoy of DREAM THEATER, Roine Stolt of THE FLOWER KINGS and Neal Morse [ex-SPOCK'S BEARD]). The chat is now available for streaming using the audio player below.

TRANSATLANTIC released its long-awaited third album in October. "The Whirlwind" is described in a press release as "a 77-minute piece of music that is sure to satisfy the band's legions of fans that have patiently waited almost the entire decade for the reunion of these four musicians."

"The Whirlwind" is available in two formats: A regular-edition single CD of the entire 77-minute epic as well as a two-CD special edition containing a bonus disc with eight newly recorded studio tracks (four new TRANSATLANTIC compositions and four cover songs)

The track listing for the special edition is as follows:

Disc One:

The Whirlwind

Disc Two:

01. Spinning
02. Lenny Johnson
03. For Such A Time
04. Lending A Hand
05. The Return Of The Giant Hogweed (GENESIS)
06. A Salty Dog (PROCOL HARUM)
07. I Need You (AMERICA / THE BEATLES)
08. Soul Sacrifice (SANTANA)

I don't know if Pete is the best bass player today but he's definitely one of the best. He started playing guitar before the bass so I guess that gave him his style as opposed to someone who starts out firstly on the bass. I reckon to play with Portnoy on a 77 minute track has got to be great!

GOT IT ALREADY!!! I heard that they may tour as well. That would totally kick as I have never seen Neal Morse live. ROCK!!!

If you like the new Trans...you might want to check out a band called Shadow Circus...kinda heavy...def prog. They kick A$$ too. Just a thought :-)

COMMENT | Pete Trewavas is Primarily in Marillion

You've got all the other members' bands/claim to fame listed, and you couldn't say anything about Trewavas being in Marillion, *the* most prominent neo-progressive band to come out of the scene in the early 80's?

Although they've changed their style drastically over the years, and the singer who is most associated with their progressive years (Fish) hasn't been a member for over 20 years, there's no question or dispute that Marillion is to the neo-progressive movement as Dream Theater is to progressive metal.
