SOULFLY Begins Work On New Album - Nov. 7, 2009
SOULFLY was scheduled to enter a studio in Los Angeles, California on Friday (November 6) to begin recording its new album for an early 2010 release. The group's bassist, Bobby Burns, writes on SOULFLY's official forum, "We've been playing together better than ever in recent times and we're all really excited to get to work on the new shit!"

In a recent interview, SOULFLY mainman Max Cavalera stated about the songwriting process for the band's next album, "We're thinking about making the songs a little shorter, so if you can imagine maybe a little bit like MINOR THREAT mixed with [SLAYER's] 'Reign In Blood' mixed with SOULFLY, with still some world music, but much smaller, and the songs not so long — shorter. It'll be more aggressive than [last year's] 'Conquer' [album] even, because it'll be shorter — it'll be like when SLAYER did 'Reign In Blood', [that] kind of thing."

In other news, Burns and wife Joy are expecting their first baby, a son named Ryder Lee Burns, on Febuary 4. Bobby says, "I'm so fucking excited / scared / nervous, I can barely stand it! He'll be a little rocker, for sure! He's already been to three PRIMER 55 [Bobby's other band] shows and five SOULFLY shows and he's not even here yet!"

He adds, "Needless to say, I'll be taking the month of Febuary off to be at home with him and my wife.. So I hope I won't be missing any of the SOULFLY tours, but what can ya do?!"

"Conquer" sold around 8,400 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 66 on The Billboard 200 chart. This number is in line with the opening tally of the CD's predecessor, "Dark Ages", which shifted a little more than 8,000 copies during its first week of release in October 2005 to enter the chart at No. 155.

Mark Rizzo is a shredder, but what's up with Max explaining the new CD, "ah you know it's gonna be short like slayer reign in blood, you know slayer reign in blood, it's gonna be short like that, our new album it's gonna have short songs like reign in blood, you know how reign in blood had short songs / yeah like that.

YouHateMeCauseYouKnowImRight agree 100% their laste album was heavier than anything proceeding it and was amazing. So was the Cavalera Conspiracy album. Can only guess the reunion reinvigorated them.

mrzumm, I guess you haven't listened to the last few Soulfly albums. There's no more hip-hop/nu-metal. Now it's all just generic Sepultura redos (which is not really a bad thing).

Lol @ people bashing Soulfly for the nu-metal shit. That was 10 years ago or so. Max is back on track now.

lame songs, lame albums... only Dark Ages was good enuf to listen to a second time...

Why keep churning out the same boring shit over and over? These guys should disband and Max and Rizzo shud join Cavalera Conspiracy permanently. How about another blistering CC album, Max?

The last album was heavy and all, but i dunno, me personally though i just feel the songs weren't there at all. I really enjoyed Dark Ages tho and i hope the new record is more in the vein of the stuff off of that album.

I also enjoyed the CC album. Maybe it's time (as the poster above said) to put Soulfly to rest and continue on with CC.

Am i the only one that thought 'Conquer' was weak? I mean, 'Dark Ages' was awesome! And so was CC... but 'Conquer' was such a letdown. I was kinda hoping Max would take a little more time to write a really bad ass record again but i guess not.

I´ve got all Soulfly albums, but I must admit I absolutely love the direction the band has taken with their last couple of albums, more straight to the point and heavie: that´s what we expect from Max. If the new album will be even heavier: to me that´s perfect, c´mon Max you have what it takes, write an absolutely KILLER album!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You might not be the best of axemen, but your talent and trademark sound is unequalled!!!!!!!!!!

Dark Ages was the only album that sounded different than the rest in Soulfly's disco. The first three albums were awesome horseshit. the last two ditto. Listen to that song called Prophecy and tell me if thats not "Primitive" nu-metal all over again only just a bit pumped up, not to mention the direction-less uninspired repetitive mess thats Conquer. Sure there are 1 or 2 good songs on both albums but they're just bland. On the other hand, CC's Inflikted kicks the shit outta the entire Soulfly catalog.
