SEPULTURA To Celebrate 25th Anniversary With New Live DVD - Nov. 8, 2009
SEPULTURA guitarist Andreas Kisser was interviewed on the November 6, 2009 edition of the "Uncensored Net Noise". The program can now be streamed using the audio player below. (Note: The Kisser interview begins around the 35-minute mark.) A few excerpts from the chat follow (transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET).

SEPULTURA's plans for 2010:

"The plan is to keep [touring] through next year. We're celebrating 25 years of the group. We have an intention to do a live DVD with our new drummer [Jean Dolabella], maybe an orchestra and stuff, to celebrate this special date. So, let's see. The plans are, really, to keep on the road for the next year."

On whether there is any bad blood between the current members of SEPULTURA and their former bandmates, vocalist/guitarist Max Cavalera (currently in SOULFLY and CAVALERA CONSPIRACY) and drummer Igor Cavalera (currently in CAVALERA CONSPIRACY and MIXHELL):

"Max [leaving SEPULTURA in 1996] was a pretty heavy departure. He was the singer, we were at the peak of our career, touring [in support of the gold-certified] 'Roots' [album] and everything; it was very difficult to keep everything together. When Igor left [in 2006], it was easier to deal with, with our experience that we had with Max and to rebuild the SEPULTURA career and everything. I mean, his departure was made step by step and he was not very happy touring etc. We [are] still on good terms, of course. Max is very hard to get in touch [with], but Igor lives in Brazil, our families know each other and stuff, and we still have a really cool relationship. But [we live in] different worlds — he's [Igor] doing a DJ job [with MIXHELL], using his drums in a different way."

On CAVALERA CONSPIRACY (the collaboration between brothers and former SEPULTURA members Max and Igor Cavalera):

"I think it's cool. It's great to see the brothers playing again. But, you know, it seems to me that everything [for the debut CAVALERA CONSPIRACY album, 'Inflikted'] was done in a rush. They could spend a little more time enjoying this brother reunion and jam and write something together. I mean, Igor was just the drummer there [on the first CAVALERA CONSPIRACY album]. But I think it's cool. At least they're talking to each other again, which is very positive."

On whether he thinks Marc Rizzo (SOULFLY guitarist) is a good fit for CAVALERA CONSPIRACY:

"I don't know, man. It could be anyone, because it's something new. Of course, they only do SEPULTURA stuff [when they play live], but... [laughs] I guess they don't have any choice. I think Marc Rizzo is a great player, he's a great guy... I really admire his style. I mean, his flamenco playing, his acoustic stuff, is amazing, and he's a great dude, man. It's great to see that he's jamming with Max for a long time, for awhile. I guess it's just whatever music they wanna do. I guess they [got] along well and it worked out cool."

...is probably one of the best thrash albums in recent years and it is def not rushed. I think Andreas may be a little jealous. To say that all Cavalera Conspiracy play in concert is Sepultura is utter crap! When I saw them in London they played the whole album and maybe 2 sepultura songs.

Maybe A-Lex is the best post-max sepultura album, but it still sucks.

Andreas is not the only one that thought C.Conspiracy was rushed.

I'd much rather listen to A-Lex personally. It's well thought out, has an interesting concept, and it's just a more intelligence album overall.

I even preferred the last Soulfly to C.C.

with both Soulfly and Sepultura is that while they often releasing interesting stuff, it's rarely important. Just another album to listen to for a while and then shelve for a couple of years. Sepultura in their prime, on the other hand, were a force of nature. Nothing could stop them. When they released something, the metal world paid attention. Hell even the 'regular' rock press rated them.

As good as A-Lex was, however, it's a very inward looking record, that was made primarily to satisfy the creative desires of its makers. Now there is nothing wrong with that, and i'm glad they have the balls to follow their own instincts rather than submitting to the market, but compared to their best work, it has an undeniable air of insignificance about it. I also feel the same way about 80% of the albums Max released with Soulfly. Only the debut and 'Dark Ages' really impressed me.

Everytime I play A-Lex, I'm immediately hooked. 5/5
Awesome album and wicked guitar tone.
GREEN is a superb singer too! I'm still a fan even w/o the Cavaleras in this band.

Glad to see people pumpin' fists for A-Lex. That is one hell of an album, up there with AIC, Mastodon, Goatwhore, Megadeth, and all these other great releases that came out this year.

As for Andreas' interview, I always wonder why so many people (presumably Americans?) wanna bash him so much.

I'm not bashing SEPULTURA, I'm bashing the half-ass-hasn't been good since 1993-pseudo punk hardcore SEPULTURA.

And it has nothing to do with Max leaving. Because he has put out the same pseudo punk hardcore sloppy crap since he formed soulfly too (although RIzzo is amazing).

SEPULTURA is Beneath the remains, Beastial Devistation, Arise, Chaos A.D. anything after is not worth a listen.

Listen to "Dead Embryonic Cells", or "Stronger than Hate" and then listen to "Roots Bloody Roots" or whatever new song. And you'll know what I'm talking about

but really, this sepultura has nothing on the cavalera's sepultura, not even close, that was the real thing, without them...i don't care.
and CC...way better than the actual sepultura, by far.

COMMENT | Current Sepultura lacks catchiness

It's a fact.
A bunch of downtuned riffs don't make a good album.
Catchy songs do.
Max can write them. Andreas cannot.
Soulfly and Cavalera Conspiracy are vastly superior compared to current Sepultura.
I bought A-Lex and rarely listen to it. I like maybe 5 songs on it.
I love everything on "Inflikted" and "Conquer" though.

Punk and hardcore have always been huge influences for both Kisser and Max.
If you can't tell that the last three Soulfly albums and the CC album are thrash metal you're an idiot.
