EVANESCENCE returned to the stage for the first time since 2007 on Wednesday night (November 4), playing a "secret" show at the 1,000-capacity Grand Ballroom in New York City. In addition to singer
Amy Lee, the lineup was almost the same that fans last saw, with
Terry Balsamo on guitar,
Tim McCord on bass and
Will Hunt on drums. Second guitarist
Troy McLawhorn was reportedly unable to make the show and was replaced by
FINGER ELEVEN axeman
James Black.
According to
The Pulse of Radio, the set was a warm-up for a November 8 gig that the band is playing in front of 40,000 people in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Although
Lee has indicated in recent online posts that the group is working on its third album, no new material was aired at the show.

The last
EVANESCENCE album,
"The Open Door", arrived in 2006.
Three former members of the band teamed up this year with
"American Idol" runner-up
Carly Smithson in
WE ARE THE FALLEN. That outfit is currently at work on its debut album.
