The Association for Australian Heavy Metal (AAHM) and the Australian Metal Awards (AMA) were formed to give heavy metal in Australia the support and backing it has lacked since it began to flourish during the 1980s.

AAHM and AMA is governed and operated by dedicated individuals who are passionate about this genre of music and have been heavily involved in the organizing and running of events for both Australian and international heavy metal acts for a number of years.

AAHM and AMA's objectives are to:

* Provide support and backing to all Australian heavy metal bands/artists
* Actively promote Australian heavy metal nationally
* Reward and recognize the bands that have made a significant contribution to the heavy metal genre of Australian music

But good on Psycroptic for their awards. Can't say I've heard anything of Chaos Divine though. And where is the love for bands like Double Dragon, Truth Corroded and Frankenbok?

was at this show, Sad Ex playing an awards night was pretty strange, but it was well worth it. It seemed a weird bunch of winners though, almost like it was a certain 'crew' who were patting themselves on the arse. No Daysend, No Alarum, No Malignant Monster, No Dyscord, No Black Asylum / Universum ( one of these should have taken best new band ) No Nazxul, No Parkway Drive mentions ( we all know what they have achieved as a 'heavy' australian act ) No mention of the Dragons from Adelaide who are chosen by every touring artist to support them in Oz, No Truth Corroded who are actually touring Asia as we speak and are one of the only bands in here actually going overseas, and NO AC/DC mention / award / anything!! There should have been a ROSE TATTOO award too for the best Road Warriors. Good effort to begin with, but next year there needs a panel of judges Australia wide across all metal genre's, no online voting popularity bullshit, and I think we have an awards night for our bands to be proud of! FUKK YOU!!!! SAD EX!!!

If people bothered to look at the website and followed what these awards were all about you would know that firstly bands needed to be nominated (you can't surely expect the people running the show to know every single band out there in Australia???). Parkway Drive didn't even enter and neither did double dragon, Naxzul didn't have an album out at the time.. a few other bands that have been raised here didn't even bother to enter. Most of them mentioned DID enter and most of them made it to the top 3 finalists or close to. Most of the psycroptic awards were from public nominations, the rest from judges from throughout australia (metal and NON METAL so there was no bias). As for all genres - some genres were approached but didn't want to even take part in it.
check out who the finalists were, and the winners www.australianmetal.com.au

I think the promoters did a bloody good job considering this was their first event, and for all the shit they get from you so called fans out there. People complain that there's nothing like this going on, and then someone has the guts to do it and they just get put down. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS COUNTRY!?? Do it yourselves if you think you can do a better job or give the support these people deserve to make the next one bigger and better and help get Australian bands the recognition they deserve.
