DEVILDRIVER To 'Go Faster And Heavier' On Next Album
- Nov. 10, 2009
|
|
According to a new online post by DEVILDRIVER bassist Jon Miller, the Santa Barbara, California-based metallers have six songs "in the bag" for the group's forthcoming album, which they "are looking to record sooner than later." He adds, "We want to go faster and heavier on this one to answer any question on a 'direction' that we may be undertaking." DEVILDRIVER is currently on the road in Europe with BEHEMOTH, SCAR SYMMETRY and ARSIS as part of the Neckbreakers Ball Tour. DEVILDRIVER's new album, "Pray For Villains", sold around 14,600 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 35 on The Billboard 200 chart. DEVILDRIVER's previous album, 2007's "The Last Kind Words", shifted a little more than 14,000 copies during its first week of release to debut at No. 48 — around 40 percent more than the opening-week number of 2005's "The Fury of Our Maker's Hand", which premiered at No. 177 with sales of 10,400. "Pray For Villains" was released on July 14 via Roadrunner Records. The effort — which was also made available as a special-edition CD/DVD package featuring three bonus tracks, a behind-the-scenes DVD and expanded artwork — was recorded at Edge of the Earth studios in Los Angeles with producer Logan Mader ( FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH, GOJIRA, DIVINE HERESY).

Their new album just came out and they are already taking about the next album? I thought it was pretty descent but too many songs, there was some filler track that could have been cut but overall pretty good.
"We want to go faster and heavier on this one"
WOW thats original. How about "We want to really buckle down and work on getting some really unique, original songs. Quality over quantity Get some of that creativity back from Fury of Our Makers Hand."

7.14.09 - 11.10.09 = 4 months later already talking next album... Trying to get out of RR record contract? I enjoy every DD album in its own way... Fury of our makers hand was my fav out of all of them. I will always listen to them but DD don't start pumping crap out, please. Maybe Dez needs to hook back up w/ Coal Chamber and switch back and forth DD Album/Touring cycle, CC Album/Touring cycle , Giving each band a respectable amount of time for writing quality material. Although... I don't see a CC reunion anytime soon. And LOL... I know I'm gonna catch HELL for the CC shit on this thread!!!

Shit, I honestly don't know what to think of this... I fucking love this band, but PFV was clearly rushed and I don't think I could handle another big let down so early... I'll try and stay optimistic.

"We'll go faster and heavier" So obviously you dont have a fucking clue on how to write a song and have to rely only on speed and agression to write an album.

I like all of DevilDriver's albums and agree that "Fury" is a standout album. But I still think "Pray for Villains" is their best album to date. Two things I don't agree with is that "Pray For Villains" was rushed or that it takes a little longer to digest. Gimme a break, this is easily their most accessible album to date, without sacrificing any brutality. The hooks are immediate and the overall songwriting/lyrics are fantastic. It's a lethal combination that so many bands fail to capture. And it certainly isn't a sound or vibe you capture through "rushing" things.
And seriously, if they have 6 songs in the can for their new album...you're going to somehow turn THAT into a negative thing?

I'm glad they are already working on something new. It almost seems like though that it will be leftovers from Pray for Villians, which I didn't like. Yeah, the songs where alright but it seemed like way to much treble for me. Fury of Our Makers Hand is one of my favorites I really like the first one as well. Hope this new alum is a return to form, Pray For Villians seemed like they where trying for radio.

1 - coalchamber are fucking DEAD AND BURIED - it`s been SEVEN years for christ`s sake!
2 - no way pfv was rushed - tremendous album with a high use of tunesmanship and technical prowess.
3 - can`t think of any filler tracks, but plenty of killer tracks. im sure there are one or two in people`d eyes, but it beats most of the albums these days that have one or two good songs on and you have to buy the whole album. not as fan of the extra tracks per se, but self affliciton is an excellent tune.
4 - bring on rocktober - they are writing a new album while they have fresh ideas, what the hell is wrong with faster and heavier - do you like nursery rhymes?

PFV was very rushed. TLKW and their first album were MUCH better. Dez where is the energy and raw sounds from the first album?

Pray for Villains material going for radio??
What radio station would play anything Devildriver, other than a 1 hour slot on a Friday or Saturday night IF they happen to play metal? Or Coal Chamber for that matter.
also, what's with the complaints of them already writing new material? Everybody forget that Zeppelin, The Doors, AC/DC, and Sabbath wrote countless classics all within a few short years, sometimes 2 or 3 albums a year??
Faster and heavier. I like it. I wish they get back to the basics like Nothings Wrong and Die. What makes The Fury of Our Maker's Hand so great, is it has the less is more approach, yet breaking the boundaries of the first album.
I like every album. But the first 2 was where the magic was at.

I love the first album and the latest album but it sounds like it's gonna be heavy for the sake of being heavy again instead of making good music

I agree with M84, the first two albums were awesome. Fast, brutal, and each song stood out on its own. Theses last two albums it seems like each song has a similar sound with very minor differences.
Didn't buy the last two, still like the band, hope they can turn out something good.

Love this band, but the last album was meh.It lacked something distinctive in songwriting. Trieds to get into it very hard, but couldn't. To me their best are Fury and The Last kind Words.
