SLAYER: More 'World Painted Blood' First-Week Chart Positions Revealed - Nov. 10, 2009
According to Slayerized.com, SLAYER's new album, "World Painted Blood", has registered the following first-week chart positions so far:

Germany: #7
Australia: #9
U.K.: #41
New Zealand: #16

According to Hits Daily Double, the companion web site of music industry tip sheet HITS, "World Painted Blood" is on track to sell between 35,000 and 40,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release.

SLAYER's last CD, "Christ Illusion", opened with more than 62,000 units to debut at position No. 5 on The Billboard 200 chart. This was the highest position ever on the chart for SLAYER, who previously reached No. 8 with their 1994 release "Divine Intervention" after moving 93,000 copies of that album in its first week.

SLAYER's 2001 album, "God Hates Us All", registered a first-week tally of 51,000 to land at No. 28, while 1998's "Diabolus In Musica" opened with 46,000 units, debuting at No. 31.

"God Hates Us All" and its predecessor, "Diabolus In Musica", have each sold more than 300,000 copies so far. Several of the earlier SLAYER albums have been certified gold for sales in excess of 500,000 copies in the United States, including "Divine Intervention".

i find it hard to believe that the last cd would sell more in it's first week than WPB. i guess it's just because of all the cheap fucks out there just downloading it off of limewire. if your a true SLAYER fan get out and buy the cd, support the best fuckin band in the world. SLAYER you guys did a great fuckin job on this cd. kudos to you guys. it's about time you got back to the 80's style.

(worst Slayer song written, EVER) And what about all the horrible "i wana see yo hands in da air, jum up and down, yo!" parts. 80's my ass man. If anything it makes me want to put on some Jncos, put on a wife beater and get some tribal tattoos.

The other day I saw some moron post on here that it was there best record since Reign. ..........................{bashes head into wall} Better than Seasons? Better than South of Heaven?

Agree. Spend a few dollars to buy this CD and support the band. While record companies make most of the money bands normally depends on record sales to get money upfront for tours so my rule of thumb is if i really like the band I'll go buy their cd otherwise fuck em. Also this is a killer cd so you should get it anyways.

I think that this album is way better than "Christ Illusion" but I think that the reason the last sold more in the forst week was because of Dave being back in the fold. It was the first album with him in a long time and I think that made everybody run out and get in line.

Love the new album, but Reign in Blood will always be my favorite. God Hates Us All was pretty good too...

So what I'm trying to say is, Slayer...is badass. I love all their albums, but Reign in Blood is the number one album they've ever done.

I actually bought it at FYE for $10. :)

I think this one is selling less largely because there is no controversy this time. For "Christ Illusion", the main thing was that it was being banned and censored because of the cover, plus it was a fucking AWESOME album! This time around, there isn't as much promotion or news, but still a lot!

I don't like that album, the production is more than crappy and those songs are lame. I do not say this cause I'm the kind of old school guy, but because it is the truth. ''Diabolus in Musica'# was the last good album by Slayer!!!

... Christ Illusion was released on 6//6/06... and there was tons of hype around that day and such.

Let's face it though, any chart position by a band of Slayer's type is amazing.
When Show No Mercy came out, no one paid attention to them. Now, they are huge and known outside the metal community. Incredible achievement.

If I wasn't so damn poor, I'd buy a second copy (maybe the flashy digipack or vinyl) just to give 'em a boost... "Psychopathy Red" is some of the most vicious, violent shit they've done in a long time and this album (except for "Americon") is fucking awesome!

Anyone who whinges about production needs to get some better speakers and stop making assessments based on shitty mp3 quality audio.

In all fairness, you don't expect a band like Slayer to appeal to the masses...hell, they're not even supposed to. An average of 300K is not bad for a non-mainstream band, especially one that's over 25 years old.

Anyways, I did my part bought the deluxe edition. Not a great album, just a little better thanCI, actually. Only 3 songs I'd give five stars to: WPB, HWW and PsychRed.

Their sales, which they might not want posted here, are steadily if not quickly decreasing. Why, I don't know, could be a generational thing. the '80s were a tougher decade and the music showed up there as well. Not saying' they're not viable anymore, God knows I wanted this CD, I pre-ordered it and then cancelled it (I guess I'm just a big wuss)! I like 'em have to say that South of Heaven (with behind........the crooked cross) & etc. is killer (spill the blood) too. Seasons is another 'perfect SLYR LP.'
Box Set (apocaypse) is a nice slyr addition to any collection, wuss or not.

Go SLAYER!!!

World Painted Blood IS in my view the best album since Seasons in the Abyss!! There is a vibe about this album that previous albums didn't have. Yeah the mix is a bit muddy in places but I feel this adds to it .The poor chart position? Who gives a fuck, as soon as more people start hearing it, the more people will buy it!

Part of the reason for the slow sales of the new cd is that you can download it for free or get a copy from a friend. It has nver been easier to not pay for a new cd. The music industry and the artists have got to think of a better way to sell their music. Also, though this Slayer cd is good, it is not their best. It just fits in with the rest of their cds. It is not a "Seasons", a "Reign" or a "South". I will always love Slayer, but the sales do not suprise me based on stealing of the cd.

Sleepgrinder, you are getting way to animated about this whole thing man, it's a band. And I think saying this has some 80's elements sevearly degrades the release in general. I remember the 80's, not every album from that time period was great. Seasons being one of them. I think of Seasons now as a fucking yawn factory. WPB has things in it that keep me interested in it. Temptation and born of fire are the gayest songs ever compared to the worst song on WPB. Smoke on that for a while buddy

every Slayer album and every one of them are great. Some are better than others. When I first bought this I wasn't so sure. After my third listen I can't get enough of it. If you don't like it, give this one a couple more listens if you haven't already. It grows on you. That also may be the reason sales are down, not with just Slayer but with music in general. People can hear the songs or clips before they buy. If they don't like it right off they won't buy it. Album sales may be down but buying singles off iTunes may make up for it.

yah not the best song of there earlier eras. everything they did before diablos in musica was pretty much gold. Even Undisputed Attitude rocked. after diablos in musica they seemed to veer slowly back to the older style which is good but why is that a common pitfall amongst the 80's thrash elite? pretty much the entire bay area scene rocked throughout the 80's yet they had to become "nu-metalish" in the 90's after spending years condemning trends and whatnot. I guess they figured their audience was changing and they needed to keep up...seems understandable but not completely necessary..but everyone has to make a living.

Man, some of you people on here are way outta touch or thinkin way too much. This is a WAY BETTER album than CI, and OBVIOUSLY their best since Seasons. ALL of the songs are great. Even Americon is cool. Great riff. Tom is doing some cool vocal shit on WPB, and trust me, in a few years, people will be gushing all over this album.

I remember back when SOH was released and a bunch of fans were whining about it. Saying it was too slow, too different, not heavy enough blah blah blah. I fucking loved it (as did many others) and a decade after its release everyone was saying its a masterpiece. Which it is.

I've noticed alot of people on here talking a shitload of smack about this and that, and clearly, they are hung up on consensus and seemingly can't listen with their own ears.

Honestly, if you don't hear this album as incredible, you don't know Slayer. Maybe you are too young and weren't able to listen to each album in succession as the years rolled on, having to hear them in reverse or skips or whatever...but this is a GREAT Slayer album.

This album has a cool blend of RIB, GHUA, SNM, SITA and SOH, without having any 'filler' songs (but yes there are some retreaded riffs here and there).
