RIK EMMETT Discusses Possibility Of More TRIUMPH Reunion Shows - Nov. 11, 2009
Tracey Lukasik of BackstageAxxess.com recently conducted an interview with TRIUMPH's Rik Emmett. Rik talks about his latest project, P.R.O., featuring Greek guitarist Pavlo and Latin guitar sensation Oscar Lopez; his collaboration with Dave Dunlop in the STRUNG-OUT TROUBADOURS, a jazz duo who have three successful records to date; and the possibility of a full-fledged TRIUMPH reunion. Watch the chat in three parts below.

As one of the godfathers of prog metal and leading lights of arena rock, TRIUMPH formed in 1975, and built a large and loyal fanbase by the late '70s on the strength of their non-stop touring schedule throughout Canada and the USA and the success of their classic albums, "Rock & Roll Machine" and "Just A Game". But it was in the 1980s when TRIUMPH truly became a force to be reckoned with, as a string of gold/platinum-certified albums ("Progressions of Power", "Allied Forces", "Never Surrender" and "Thunder Seven") and classic hits ("Fight the Good Fight", "Magic Power", "Lay It On The Line") solidified the group as one of rock's top concert attractions.

This guy gets lost when in fact he is every bit as great as Rhoads, Van Halen, Satriani, Vai, Vaughn, Dime, Malmsteen, Petrucci,
Name a guitarist & Rik can hold his own!

just himself and Dave Dunlop on acoustic guitars. Pretty cool, Rik busted out Lay it on the line, Magic Power, Fight the Good Fight and Suitcase Blues. He says he can't hit the high notes anymore but still sounded great and the man a monster on the guitar. I'd see this in a hearbeat, play Allied Forces live in it's entirety.

fairy-like singer.

he makes fellow hard-rocking Canuck Geddy Lee sound downright manly.

but he can play that gee-tar.

cheers.

I find it very interesting that, all these threads where people insult bands/musicians, and also threads where people slag news that isn't considered metal, Triumph, for some reason, never seems to have many people insulting them in the threads. They are pretty awesome, but I just find it strange.
Jeff Porcaro from Toto, has also gotten pretty much universal praise on this site. The people here continue to surprise me.

I think it can be more agreed upon that true musicianship is praised on this site and glory hounds are taken down to size on this site- just my take.

I would love to see Triumph live!!
A great rock band!

I hear Triumph almost every day on XM "the Boneyard" and I gotta tell ya, it's so cheesy that I just can't turn it off!!! I don't want to hear it, but I can't turn away!! It's downright gay sounding!!!! My 10 year old son could write better lyrics. Does anyone remember back in the 80's when Rik Emmitt wrote a monthly column in one of the guitar magazines? He was such an arrogant prick month after month that it just completely turned me off to him and his music. I wouldn't piss in his mouth if his gums were on fire.

It sounds like the three guys are genuinely on good terms, and Rik was really cool in the way he discussed Gil's conflicts. It sounds, though, like nothing more is going to happen. It would be nice if somehow they did a club tour, just for fun and to perform for the diehard fans. That would alleviate a lot of the pressures of putting together a huge show--a show which couldn't possible match the glory days anyway. It would really be a treat to see these guys again on any size stage.

I've always been a huge fan of Triumph - well at least since I was introduced to them during the early Mtv days - and have been waiting for them to do the reunion tour thing for years. I was fortunate enough to see them once on the Thunder Seven tour, and twice on Sport of Kings. All 3 shows were great. Didn't hurt that the opening bands were Loudness (TITE tour), Yngwie (Trilogy), and White Lion (Fight to Survive tour).

Is the one of my fave bands in all time.

I hope they not spoil their perfect catalogue recording another album.

Most of legendary bands did that and fails

Let the band to rest in peace guys
