ZAKK WYLDE Talks About Split With OZZY OSBOURNE; Video Available
- Nov. 11, 2009
|
|
Video footage of Zakk Wylde talking to the Artisan News Service about his split with OZZY OSBOURNE can be viewed at this location. When asked in a recent interview with MusicRadar.com how he came to be fired from Ozzy's band, Wylde stated that Ozzy and his wife, Sharon, "said, 'Zakk, son, we need to talk to you.' They sat me down at the kitchen table and said, ' Zakk, we're very proud of you, but you're 42 years old now. We just think it's about time you take your wife and your kids and you get the fuck out of your bedroom and grow the fuck up and get a job, because me and your mother want to enjoy our life now. I think we've done enough. You're 42, now get the fuck out of the house! "That's what happened. As rough as it was for me, I had to accept it," he said. Wylde said that he first heard about losing the Ozzy gig from rock photographer Neil Zlozower. Neil had been doing a photo shoot with KISS' Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley, and heard the news from them. "It's always been this way: 'We're going out on the road.' It's like, 'When? Tomorrow? What?,'" Wylde said. "I'm the last person to find out anything, you know? I've been with Oz since I was 19; I'm fucking 42 years old. It's just like ... like, with my dad passing away, same with my mom ... I don't go, 'Oh, this sucks.' I never ask; I always thank. "At least I got to spend 23 years with the boss," Wylde continued. "And he knows I'll always be there with him. Gus [ G.], who's playing with [ Ozzy now], he's fucking awesome. So I hope he has a millisecond of the good time I had. Gus will have a fucking blast, you know what I mean?"

Zakk has a good sense of humor.. I liked the move out of the house bit! I'd say He & Ozzy mutually benifted from each other rather well.\
Still love the No Rest for the Wicked album w/ Geezer Butler on bass.

This is the first interview I've ever seen where he speaks more than pathetic drunken fragmented sentences. Guess the alcohol took it's toll. Now he seems like a genuine decent person. Maybe he can even write a good album for a change.
Here's hoping he wasn't just hammered when he spoke of kicking the shit outta Fred Durst. Fuck that pansy needs a good shitkicking.

Randy was his original guitar player and put Ozzy on the map. Ozzy sorta went flat after Randy was lost (granted I like Jake E's stuff) but Zakk resurrected Ozzman's career, hands down. As someone else said in a different post. When Holmes was in there, he couldn't swing it, Ozzy/Sharon knew this and thus Zakk was back in for a couple albums, granted Down to Earth was weak and obviously not 100% Zakk input on the tunes. Ozzy should be about done. Zakk, hopefully he stays healthy, has some years yet left in the tank. On a side note, I'd love to hear a Zakk/Kerry King project, with Lombardo on drums and what the hell put Newstead on bass. One thing though Zakk, lose that hat, leave that look to Corey Taylor. SDMF!

He already made a total ass of himself when he denied Ozzy was replacing him, then threatened to kill Ozzy because he wanted a phone call. Now he's gonna play the "I'm all cool with it" game. What's next, he's going to admit he's not a real biker?

Zakk looks great! Trimmed his beard, put on a cool hat, and ditched the leather biker vest. He's not all redfaced and bloated and drink lookin either. Glad to see maybe he's getting his life back on track. Can't wait for the next BLS record. Thought all the heavy songs and a few of the slow songs on the last one were amazing.
First blabbermouth post :D, been reading this site for years.

Glad to hear that he is taking this well. Im also glad to see him cut the cord. Like he said when ozzy had something planned Zakk would have to jump. Now he can concentrate on his own band and hopefuly grow as an artist. The sober thing might look good on him to!

Plus the guy sounds like what Ozzy should sound like. Ozzy was basically useful as the means for launching this first-rate band: BLS.
Killer band, killer talent. Not the best fit for Osbourne--Jake E. Lee was the better fit.

I know change is good, have for a while, and I was one of the 1sts to say you know what, that groove metal like the last 3 or so albums (after OZZMOSIS) wow it's been a while for OZZY I'll say that. How he's still riding that CRAZY TRAIN (really) I don't know. He's blown his brains out 100 times over, not that I havn't but he's a TRUE work of art, that OZZY. He's singlehandedly been a big influence in my high school and after yrs / He had a lot to do with helping (ruining) me deal with complex emotions, yes sweeeeeeeeeeeet emotions.
Thanx for bein' there OZZY and don't ever - no matter what they say, don't ever grow up!!!!!
Best Zakk lp. w/ OZZY prob. 'No More Tears' hellraiser / time after time / course the hits there too.
peace. much more success! OZZY.

And can anyone honestly say they listen to the last few ozzy solo albums? As a solo artist I can't believe people still have interest him.

For those saying he should have bailed on Ozzy a long time ago, get fucking real. Whether you prefer BLS to latter day Ozzy albums is irrelevant, there is absolutely NO WAY Zakk is getting anywhere near the kind of money on a BLS tour that he would playing for Ozzy. From a financial standpoint getting booted from Ozzy's band decreases his income on several magnitudes. Not that he'll be out panhandling anytime soon but hell, even going from making $2M a year to $200K has a definite effect on your lifestyle.

Zakk will be going to his mail box every month and get a fat royalty check for all he has done with ozzy the man could retire tommorow and be financially set for his life. He has deals with Epiphone, Gibson, Marshall, and whatever strings and pedals he uses the man's last worry in life is the financial burden of getting kicked out of Ozzy's band.

Royalty checks for purchases of physical CD product? Yeah, good luck with that. Nonetheless, I'm aware of his endorsement deals and I'm sure he's not touring for gas money and a bar tab, my point is when people wonder why he didn't bail on the old man year's ago, well there you go, that's why. I don't know how much his endorsements are worth and I'm guessing no one else on here can provide those figures either, but I'd be really surprised if it added up to more than what he would make touring with Ozzy 9 months of the year. But anyway, you're full of shit if you think that just because someone is making six figures, seven figures a year that they're not out there trying to add on to what they've already got. Is Zakk actively "worrying" about not being in Ozzy's band anymore? Of course not. But his surprise and disdain over being let go has a lot more to do with hurting his pocketbook than his feelings.

Man, Zak could write killer riffs, but his solos are just wankery. I laugh when journalists and others call him a Randy Rhoads disciple. Shit, he could never play like Randy. Nobody can.
Seriously, his solos have shit for depth and creativity. Its all "WAhhhhhh, wokka wokka, woooooo...deedly deedly deedly" just like Beavis.
Jake E. Lee could play some reall fucking interesting shit however.
This Gus G. Guy is stereotypical modern guitar wizardry. Its all been done before.
Randy, while classically influenced, was a great blusey player with tons of attitude and feel. Gus G. sounds like more weedily weedily shit. Ooooh...sweep picking...ooooh.

And to some people the whole crappy band t shirt and camo pants just doesnt fit. Reguardless he is going to get critized for anything he does. Just accept Zakk for who he was and now is and just leave it.

Jake E. Lee kills on that "Ultimate Sin" DVD. Bark at the moon sounds hard as nails on the LP (solo). On the DVD it (solo) sounds 10 x's tougher, He full out shreds on it, and come to think of it, He has a solo album out of his work with many artists of his day. when I say shred, for those who haven't got the DVD, the solo sounds out of this world, with tons of crazy-good technique and of course, originality. Other than the song "Blackened" I don't know that that live solo isn't 1 of the greatest ever!!! Either way it's time for change, Mr. Wylde. OZZY's here to stay and he's moved on.
peace.

I would have thought that Ozzy would be alot cooler.
He had an amazing guitarist for 23 years. He's a friend, creative partner, and very loyal. Then he can't even tell him first when he's been let go.
That's kinda slimy, but at least Zakk is thankful, keeping a level head.
