SLAYER's DAVE LOMBARDO Is A 'Taxi Tackler'
- Nov. 12, 2009
|
|
SLAYER drummer Dave Lombardo is featured in a two-minute video clip on Channel Bee in which tells the story about the time he surprised Marilyn Manson with his drunken antics. Watch the video below. Lombardo is a Cuban-American heavy metal drummer best known for his work with American thrash metal band SLAYER. Lombardo's music career has spanned more than 25 years, during which he has been involved in the production of 29 commercial recordings spanning a number of major genres with bands such as GRIP INC., FANTÔMAS, and TESTAMENT in addition to SLAYER. Lombardo's musical interest was sparked by playing along to a SANTANA record with bongo drums and was later influenced by the musical styles of LED ZEPPELIN and KISS. Lombardo is known as an aggressive heavy metal drummer and his use of the drums have been called "astonishingly innovative"and earned him the title "the godfather of metal double bass" from Drummer World. Over his career, he has had a significant influence on the metal scene, and has inspired many modern metal drummers.

One of the greatest.
Powerful and fast drumming, double bass like a beast and probably the best snare sound ever.
Dave Lombardo is a beast of a drummer !!!

Hey, BassGod73, check out The Gathering. It's the best Testament album since The Legacy. Also, First Strike Still Deadly. It's an album full of rerecordings of Testament classics. Lombardo plays on both albums. I maintain that D.N.R. is the greatest Testament track of all the times.

Dave's drumming on "The Gathering" is fantastic and the drumsound, though heavily produced, is way better than the flat as fuck mix of Greg "I suck at metal" Fidelman on WPB...

bitches: Stop complaining about production, in 84 if you got a cassette player with ONE speaker you were GOD, so fuck off, it's Thrash, and the production is RAW BRUTAL AND MADE TO HEADBANG, I think it's fuckin perfect.

Isn't it funny that people who can stomach poorly produced Black Metal albums without flinching - to say nothing about classic records (like Sabbath's first) - have their panties in a bunch about the production of World Painted Blood? Put a tampon on it, ladies. Maybe the problem is with YOUR ears. Clean the shit out of them once in a while and you'll feel a lot better.

nah, that production is garbage and ill suited. Burzum albums, for example, are only poorly produced by conventional standards. The sound suits the music though.
as for Lombardo, one of the most dynamic drummers in metal, if not THE most dynamic. sure other guys can play faster, but they aren't as varied or interesting as him. He can play in almost any style of music. plus his sound is ultra distinctive. He has a signature style.

i agree man. Tom is more relaxed nowadays. he appears to be in a very comfortable position in life. In the old days, the dude was more of a smart ass/loud mouth, although nothing compared to King. Now he is just chill. I've met him twice--once in 2001, then in 2005--and he is one of the friendliest musicians i've ever met, and i've met a lot of them over the years. A lot of them are pricks, but Tom is that dude.

Lombardo is a fucking legend
I was always a guitar kid, but Dave (and maybe big Gene Hoglan, and Carcass Ken) was one of the only skinsmen that ever made me want to re-think chosen instrument.
That whole drummer swap with bostaf / lombardo between slayer and Testament... both drummers and both bands, I've never been able to fault any of them
