DAVE MUSTAINE To Auction Off Korean DEAN Signature Model Guitars - Nov. 12, 2009
MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine has issued the following update:

"With the incredible demand, and the constant orders being filled with Dean Guitars for the Dave Mustaine signature line, we had decisions to make in keeping up with the orders. This is a great problem to have, and because the 'Korean-made' Dean guitars are so remarkable, I agreed to play these while the USA models were being made, and to give my complete support and understanding as we got this new venture with Dean underway, and I have been so happy with any and all of the guitars they have presented me with that it wasn't until recently that I even remembered there was a difference! However, being one of the more finicky guitarists, I wanted to have the USA guitars for my collection, which is made up of several other brands I have in storage, and the rest are my quiver of Dean guitars.

"I have several of these incredible Dean Korean models, and I have conferred with Elliot Rubison [Dean Guitars head honcho] that we are going to replace this arsenal of six-string weaponry — the Korean guitars — with the USA guitars.

"Here's where you come in: we are going to auction off all of my Korean ones. We are also going to take the winning bid and donate all the winnings (after the auction is closed and shipping and handling charges are deducted) to a (unnamed as of yet — deciding between two recipients still) charity this year.

"Dave McRobb [MEGADETH's webmaster] will be working with Dean and many of our partners to bring awareness of this auction before the holidays, and I encourage you, if you can't afford to bid for these killer Korean guitars, then you can show your support by just spreading the word (banners, fliers, whatev!) and drawing as much success for these menacing war toys, to benefit some needy children this Christmas.

"Until then, have a great holiday season, God bless you all, and thank you for your support."

He's basically saying "the Korean ones suck and I want to get rid of them." The USA ones are far superior.

Very cool of him to donate the money though.

The Koreans are making some good axes these days if you got the $$ to spend. I own a couple Korean model(Not Deans, bleh) guitars and they sound as good as my American made ones. Through a quality amp, no one can tell the diff.

But usually like his music, and never going to slag anyone for charitable work such as this

Good job Dave. Dean make some good guitars, but a lot of companies do nowadays on their top end models, just depends what you're looking for

Hamer!

Best Buy is selling brand new Dean "Mustaine" models for something like $300. I'm sure the guitars are good enough no matter where they are made. After all it really depends on the hands that are playing the guitar not the hands that made it.

He rids himself of Dean and their inferior product and go back to Jackson. Even though they are owned by Fender their custom shop stuff still surpasses anything Dean has made. Ive had the pleasure of playing on an actual Dave Mustaine USA Dean and its no comparison in playability or sound to a USA Jackson.

we're not slagging dave for donating an undisclosed amount of money. we're slagging him for his backhanded endorsement and demand of his ugly piece of shit deans. end of story.

Dave only endorses guitar manufacturers that endorse his requirements. Jackson and ESP would be foolish to ever deal him again. ESP didn't take long to let Dave know - this is not an good arraingement.

And Jackson - after Dave sold his prized (free!!!) Jacksons on EBay - have a good life, or at least try to live with yourself.

Fender has done a great job with Jackson and Charvel. I'm a guitar player and they work for me. I love certain Les Paul's and yes the Flying V. What else do I have, a Wayne Monster

Go to hell with your crappy Korean made guitars. Better yet - generate an inovice for riotass666.

COMMENT | nobody would give a shit about Dean Guitars...

Plug a Korean made guitar straight into a Marshall Plexi, and then plug the American model in....no affects....tube amp.....then tell me "they sound the same".....If they sound the same, you're tone deaf.

Dave actually mentioned on a forum post that he's renewed his contract with Dean, so jumping ship is out of the question.
