GIBSON Introduces All-New ANGUS YOUNG SGs - Nov. 13, 2009
Gibson.com reports: For more than 35 years, AC/DC has represented the archetypal "big rock" guitar sound, setting the standards for countless bands to follow. In particular, Angus Young's incendiary lead tone and mammoth rhythm crunch have inspired wave after wave of rock guitar heroes, and he has done it all on a Gibson SG Standard. The SG replaced the underappreciated Les Paul Standard in 1961, and while the Les Paul would surface later in the decade as a rock and blues classic, the new SG (originally named Les Paul/SG) was an instant hit in its own right. Its simple yet inspired ingredients of thin, all-mahogany body and neck and two Gibson humbucking pickups gave it a snappy attack with a muscular punch, and its slim, fast neck yielded unprecedented playability. Now the Gibson Custom Shop offers its reproduction of one of the world's most renowned SGs in the form of the Angus Young SG, a limited edition that captures the tone, look, and feel of this rare specimen among a classic breed, but which updates this legendary guitar with custom modifications requested by Angus himself.

the SG is also officially the 'doom' guitar. Check how many great Doom Metal guitarists are playing SGs.

The Epiphone SG are crap (own one). Invest in the real thing if you can (I will).

Best sounding and playing guitars always and forever. This new SG is sweet. HAND MADE and of the best quality you're gonna find anywhere. not that overpriced factory crap you get from japan.

This was already posted on several AC/DC sites about a week ago.

Gibson Guitars are like Harley-Davidson bikes. They're not very well made, not very fast, not very efficient and overpriced. People buy them for the name mostly and because their "heroes" played them. For metal, nothing beats a japanese Ibanez. Just my 2 cents...

You're insane. Gibson still makes a quality product, if you do your research and make sure of what you're getting. Sure, they sell some substandard stuff, like any company, but their high-end gear RULES. You can't beat a good SG. My first REAL guitar.

COMMENT | Gibson is overpriced, we know this.

Gibson definitely takes advantage of the fact that monster legends like Jimmy Page, Alex Lifeson, and Al DiMeola play their Les Paul's, and keep the prices very high (Billy Gibbons Pearly Gates Les Paul is $8,000!!!). You can buy a $4,000 Les Paul and the nuts SUCK on them, pinging right out of the gate, which you'll never get with an USA PRS.

Gibson is DEFINITELY hit or miss with quality, you gotta play the exact guitar you want to buy first, do not buy Gibson's sight unseen. PRS is a more consistent, quality guitar buildwise.

That being said, a good Gibson or Les Paul cannot be touched as far as tone. They have more growl than PRS and come alive when you dig into them. A good Les Paul ROARS.

While I do agree that you have to watch some production line Gibsons, their Custom shop work is, quite frankly, nearly impossible to beat. I've owned several custom shops, and have never been disappointed in any of them...I have also owned prduction line pieces that kicked ass....Yes, PRS makes good guitars, but a good gibson will take a good prs. Bottom line is to pick up the guitar and play it before you buy it.

I guess this Angus SG is better than the old one because of the ring around the toggle switch?.....It' probably more like the first Jimmy Page model compared to the custom shop historic Jimmy Page model....same thing with The first Joe Perry vs. the boneyard joe perry......Nice looking guitar none the less...
