METALLICA's Concert In Peru Could Become Biggest In Country's History
- Nov. 13, 2009
|
|
According to LivingInPeru.com, the organizers of METALLICA's January 19, 2010 concert in Lima, Peru are hoping for a turnout of 50,000 people or more at the Universidad Mayor de San Marcos Stadium. Businessman Koki Fernandez, who is promoting the show, told the press that this stadium has the capacity to accommodate a huge crowd of fans. " METALLICA can't perform to less than 40,000, so that's why we considered this stage which meets all the security requirements," he said. If ticket sales meet the organizer's expectations, METALLICA's appearance in Peru could turn out to be the most massive concert in Peruvian history.

Clearly this is false. They just played to 13,000 in Albany. Nothing new. You should be able to distinguish between lies and truth bud.

Well, this is coming stright from the mouth of the Concert promoter down there, so clearly someone in the Metallica camp told him this.
Which means, they probably won't play any "exotic" locations unless they can draw a crowd of 40,000+
Translation: We don't care about giving back to the international fans who support us, (with what little income they might have) and will only grace them with our presence if they are able to line our pocts with mucho mucho $$$$.
Distinguish between corporate brand big business decisions and getting your ass out there for the love of the music. bud.

Dude, you must be really dense or you new to reading media reports and quotes that are without context.
Has it occurred to you that the statement of "Metallica can't play to less that 40,000" is the promoter's OPINION? That it's the promoter's own personal standard for what he wants to see for this type of show? That maybe, just maybe he wants to see a bigger turnout in Peru that what they had the last time?
Stop being so quick to react like an emotional little girl (even that's what you are; I don't know you). Take some time to think outside your myopic view. Goddamn, when did metal fans become so fucking whiney and emo?
"way to forget where you came from guys...". Yeah, right. They came from the streets of L.A. & S.F. with a mission for world domination. Mission accomplished.

Or maybe he meant that his investment is so over the top ridiculous, that he needs 40,000 to actually make some money...
...in which case it's outrageous and a bit sad.

You raise valid points artjunkie. Perhaps this was taken out of context, and it was a personal goal of the promoter, however, I'd lean more towards the comment made by "Noise_Conspiracy" being closer to the truth.
Persecutorxx: dude, if you're gonna blast someone, at least put a bit of effort into it. That was pretty sad. Take notes from Artjunkie, because that's how its done. Back to the drawing board kiddo...

I´m from Lima - Peru, I love Metallica´s first albums, but to be honest I was much more excited to see Anthrax, Maiden or Helloween than these guys, IMO they suck since Load, DM is boring ... anyway I´ll attend just to watch them perform the classics; BTW, the stadium has been unable to be used as a venue for that number of people due to security reasons cos its old and was almost abandoned

Hey buddy, since you're from Lima, I got a question for you. I'm going to be traveling through South America in the spring (starting in Lima) and wanted to know if you guys have any concert listing websites? (similar to Ticketmaster, where you can search by dates)
I was hoping on checking out a couple shows while im down there. I know Napalm Death is playing in Buenos Aires when im there, but I wanted to check out a show in Lima too.
Anything links you can send my way would be greatly apriciated.
Also, I couldnt agree more about Metallica. I saw 'em live about a year and a half ago infront of an 80,000 crowd. They played lots of old stuff, but it has lost its edge. I thought it was a pretty bad set, but all the Metallica sheep were loving it. I just don't get the kids these days...**shakes head*
-Cheers.

Wow, this is really upsetting you isnt it? You should just let it go.
Welcome to the Internet. Home of opinions since the 80's. You don't need to go into defensive fanboy mode everytime someone speaks ill of a band that you like.
Also, the contributions that you make to this website are not exactly poetry. Glass houses pal....

In there somewhere, someone just got hooked up for a cool trip down there w/ concert info., etc. Besides all the bashing, come on. these guys aren't perfect, buy they are the 'standard' for which all bands are spawned and judged in their catagory of Heavy Metal, maybe just American 'Heavy Metal' but look at the latest post with their sets in Grand Rapids, Michigan as well as Buffalo, New York. That, my friends, is a concert. I listened to (as amatter of FACT) the whole DMag. Lp last night while posting here, I think that new album 8.0 rating, 9.0 rating 7.0 rating, whatever TFuk will last wayyyyy longer than any other lp will that came out this Century. It is true Metallica, not something they tried to be like in the '90's while they were merely building up their fanbase (selling out). But, now that they're back to making Heavy Metal (fast riffs w/ many time changes and arrangements & pounding drums to no end) I mean come on. They are giving us (at least me) what was missing last 15 yrs. or so. Are they perfect, course they aren't, but it's molten metal the way only METALLICA can bring. Not everyone likes them or has to, but, look around, it's not 1986 anymore and you're prob. not 16 yrs. old anymore. I'm glad they're back and loud and proud.too! Maybe if they grew their hair back longer, you would identify/like them more. Dmag. is a 10/10 album from someone who (me) is certainly not complaining. Give it a spin, my friends, as a bonus go to mydvdsale.com and order their live LP. entitled "Sick of the Studio '07". a 2CD with a killer setlist. And get the Metal spirit that is METALLICA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the very old Universidad de San Marcos stadium in Lima was banned by the city authorities to be used for professional soccer games about 10 years ago because it does not provide the elements of safety that are required to hold its capacity of 60K, in other words, they said that it could only be used with about 5-10K fans. Now, the question is if the resolution was made because of lack enough separation between exit doors to avoid confrontation between team rival fanatics, or was because of a true structural concern of the building. I hope it's not the latter, it would mean a potential tragedy on this concert. as far as the promoter's comment, his point is that it would be a shame and a waste to bring TALLICA to Peru and offer less than 40K tickets, i can guarantee 100-120K will be looking to buy a ticket. for the dude who ask about concerts/ticketmaster, sorry to disappoint you man but you won't find that, but you should look out for the best Peruvian's thrash metal band ARSENAL: http://www.myspace.com/arsenalperu
