SLAYER Postpones European Tour - Nov. 13, 2009
Californian thrashers SLAYER have issued the following update:

"It is with immense disappointment that SLAYER must postpone its U.K. and European tour that had been set to kick off on November 18 in the U.K., and take the band on 19 dates through Europe, ending on December 17 in Germany. The tour will be rescheduled to kick off on March 7 in Manchester, England (complete itinerary is below).

"Vocalist/bassist Tom Araya has been under the care of a specialist for a back injury, and while he has already made substantial improvement, he is continuing on with doctor-prescribed treatment."

"Right now," said SLAYER's manager, Rick Sales, "our main concern must be the full and permanent recovery of Tom, so we have decided to clear the calendar and give him the extra time he needs to concentrate solely on good health."

Last week, SLAYER announced the postponement of its East Coast "Canadian Carnage" co-headline tour with MEGADETH; those dates will be rescheduled in February 2010.

The new European schedule is as follows:

Mar. 07 - Manchester, England - Academy
Mar. 08 - London, England - Forum
Mar. 09 - London, England - Forum
Mar. 11 - Paris, France - Bataclan

Canada: #8
Australia: #9
Germany: #7
U.S.: #12
Finland: #12
Norway: #15
Netherlands: #15
New Zealand: #16
Denmark: #21

"World Painted Blood" sold 41,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release.

SLAYER's last CD, "Christ Illusion", opened with more than 62,000 units to debut at position No. 5 on The Billboard 200 chart. This was the highest position ever on the chart for SLAYER, who previously reached No. 8 with their 1994 release "Divine Intervention" after moving 93,000 copies of that album in its first week.

SLAYER's 2001 album, "God Hates Us All", registered a first-week tally of 51,000 to land at No. 28, while 1998's "Diabolus In Musica" opened with 46,000 units, debuting at No. 31.

"God Hates Us All" has sold 319,000 copies and its predecessor, "Diabolus In Musica", has moved 306,000 copies so far. Several of the earlier SLAYER albums have been certified gold for sales in excess of 500,000 copies in the United States, including "Divine Intervention".

While I have no problem with the dates being rescheduled, the show I was going to, the first night in London, which is now on March 8th, is the same night I'm supposed to see Les Claypool. Les hasn't performed in the UK for over a decade and I really wanted to see him but I really want to see Slayer too. FUCK!

I was supposed to see them on Wednesday in Montreal at the Bell Centre....now I will have to wait until February....aarrgghh!!!!
Oh well, maybe with the prolonged time off, they will be able to perfect Playing with Dolls....I would love to see a serial killer segment in their set list. Something like this would be great:
Playing with Dolls
Dead Skin Mask
213
Psychopathy Red

A long shot I am sure, but a guy can dream, can't he?

Les is a crazy awesome bassist. I saw the entire Sailing the seas of Cheese in Burlington VT a few years ago....and it was just amazing. I would strongly suggest waiting until the day of to make up your mind if you can afford such a decision. I would say that if you feel like destroying something (or someone) go see Slayer, but if you feel like standing and watching a unique guy at the top of his game perform like few others can, go see Les. Either way, you will NOT make a bad decision. This one has to be all about your feeling that day. Having seen Les 3 times (twice as Primus) and having seen Slayer 17 times (yes, really) I would go see Slayer, but again, I cannot stress enough, both acts are sure to please.

If Tom's still ill Les could play bass for Slayer?!

I remember in the Primus days they used to cover Master of Puppets, and the lead was on the bass!

He also produced Suicidal Tendencies "Join the Army". The band that later featured a certain bass player from Metallica.

Trivia over.......back to the subject.....go see Les in London and come to world's best venue Rock City in Nottingham to see Slayer and we'll buy you a beer.

Lol if that's taken out of this thread it'd turn into a really ridiculous debate.

That reminds me... I want a new Primus album. Really badly. Les is great but so is Larry LaLonde, and Les-Larry combo is greatly missed.

Back injuries are no bullshit and take a lot of time and care to heal properly. Just ask Phil Anselmo. It will definitely be worth the wait for everybody. Good luck Tom!

Aside from Birmingham (which holds at least 3,000 people), the other venues range from 1,900 (Nottingham, Glasgow) to 2,300 (London, Manchester, Leeds). They could easily have booked Brixton Academy or Hammersmith Apollo for the London show as 2 x 2,300 = 4,600, which is roughly the capacity of Brixton and Hammersmith.

Don't forget that this is the band's first UK tour with just one support act since 1994 when they were touring behind Divine Intervention and had Machine Head with them! All of their other UK tours in the past 10 years (2001, 2004, 2006, 2008) were all package tours that called at large venues. They last played Nottingham in 2000 and Leeds as a headliner in 1994. They did a tour in North America early last year with Unearth that played similar sized venues and the majority of those shows sold out. Expect these to do the same come show time.

Its a shame as I was really looking forward to Slayer this wednesday, but to be honest I'm glad Tom is getting more time to recover. Hopefully it will be a much better show as well. These are really small venues I thought for Slayer to be playing in. And i was expecting the Nottingham show to sell very quickly but it hasn't even sold out yet. Im sure it will by April though

Get well Tom, you are undergoing health problems lately: your throat in Australia and now you back. Of course health comes first, take care!!!!!!!

Btw, WPB kicks some serious ass: `Beauty through order´ especially gives me the goosebumps in the middle section, THAT is the classic Slayer I want to hear, a varied composition. Of course `Unit 731´ and `Snuff´ are classics to me as well. In the end this is the best album from Slayer since SITA, soundwise and musicwise: if they had removed `Americon´ it would have been near perfect.
