MEGADETH Kicks Off U.S. Headlining Tour; Setlist Revealed - Nov. 15, 2009
MEGADETH's 2009 U.S. leg of the "Endgame" world tour kicked off last night (Saturday, November 14) at a sold-out Orbit Room in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Support on the trek is coming from MACHINE HEAD, SUICIDE SILENCE, ARCANIUM, and WARBRINGER replacing MACHINE HEAD beginning December 5.

MEGADETH's setlist was as follows:

01. 1,320'
02. Wake Up Dead
03. Hangar 18
04. Skin O' My Teeth
05. Head Crusher
06. She-Wolf
07. In My Darkest Hour
08. Take No Prisoners
09. Rattlehead
10. Kick The Chair
11. Sweating Bullets
12. Tornado Of Souls
13. Ashes In Your Mouth
14. Devil's Island
15. Symphony Of Destruction
16. Peace Sells
----------------
17. Holy Wars

The tour will wrap in Las Vegas on December 13.

In other news, MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine has posted the following message in the "Forums" section of the band's official web site:

"Since we have tried and tried to find out why our records are not being stocked in so many places that our other labelmates are being stocked at, and ALL of our peers are being sold in too, and since we keep getting excuses from either the stores, the distributors, or the other people involved with getting the record in stores and out to you, I have decided that depending on how tired I am each night, I am willing to do their jobs too, and I will be waiting for you each night after we play and we (me) will be autographing records for you at our merchandise booth to support MEGADETH somehow at these shows.

"Please remember that I am going to be doing my best to do this for us all, although I should NOT have to do this in order to sell my new record.

"Talk about feeling like a beginner band, and having no real understanding of why you are being treated like you don't deserve to be treated better, but fuck it and fuck them.

"I will see you [Saturday night in Grand Rapids]. I will be the one hocking MEGADETH records after the show with the box 'o Sharpies!

"Thank you all for your support, God knows we wouldn't be here without you."

Despite MEGADETH drummer Shawn Drover's recent denial that the band will embark on another U.S. tour in February with SLAYER, TESTAMENT and HIGH ON FIRE, rumors continue to swirl that a trek featuring those groups is in the process of being booked.

You're an egomaniac, and obviously you feel you're on a pedestal above us all, but you are still the fucking man. Love the new album, as it's better than anything Megadeth's put out since "Symphony", let alone anything that was released before that. They're done with Roadrunner now, so why not embrace the fact that Megadeth is big enough to release it's own albums, with another label handling the distribution. Bands much smaller in popularity have been doing that for years. Either way, I will not miss this tour. Great set-list.

P.S-At the end of "Rattlehead", I wonder if he'll say "Rattle your God damn head!!", like he did on the album????

Only two songs from the new album? Why the fuck aren't you playing more? This greatest hits set is tiring. I WANT to see NEW material. Play at least six fucking songs. You're meant to be promoting the record, not dwindle down into a nostalagic act.

Playing two songs just shows you're not confident in your own recent material. The first half of the set should be focused on the new material.

It's an album tour not a greatest hits package (as mentioned above) so, personally, I'd have thought 44 Minutes, Endgame and This Day We Fight should have been included at the expense of those two and Ashes in Your Mouth.

He's doing exactly what someone here said they (musicians) should...Sell the CD's at the concert. That way you see a show (reasonably priced for metal) debatable, and you buy the shirt/CD for 25$ or something or just CD and a handshake (if he does that) for hopefully under 20$. signed too! If I went with a buddy - I would buy the CD instead of a shirt, but really, I don't want that CD, tho. no seriously The System Has Failed was the last one I'll get prob. peace.

TO Dr Gonzo.... not sure how difficult this is for you to understand but megadeth do have a lot of material. they are the type of band that has to play the hits, those are the songs that kids want to hear. of course he will play new material but the oldies cannot be neglected. all bands you see that has as many records as megadeth have will play the hits always. metallica play 5 new songs in the current setlist an i think that is unfair to lifetime metallica fans that want to see the old hit.

It worked for a lot of bands, smaller and bigger than Megadeth, so I don't understand why you couldn't give it a try next time.

The new album kicks ass--I wouldn't mind if he played the whole thing. Still, that looks like a damned good setlist to me. I don't think that Sweating Bullets and She-Wolf can stand with their best material. For that matter, all the Countdown songs are surpassed by the bulk of their catalog and the last three albums. Dave should realize that the people who are still coming to his shows don't consider Countdown to be a great metal album. This isn't like Metallica, where the jocks, the fratboys, the soccer moms, and assorted other sheep are coming to hear the songs they know from the radio. Dave should be playing 100% metal and skip the pop phase of his career. The rest of those songs, though, will be incredible live, so I'd say it's a good list overall.

It would be interesting to see how attendance is affected when Machine Head drops off the bill. I don't like any of those other bands, so not seeing Machine Head cuts the value of the concert significantly for me. They should have replaced Machine Head with a band of comparable quality and reputation.

Too many really... but that is beside the point. The stores have it. But it isn't selling that well because it SUCKS. Megadeth isn't playing more from it because it SUCKS. If Endgame was a great album, they'd being playing 4-5 tracks from it. That's what Metallica did this last time and Priest as well, playing the whole damn thing... not that either were stellar new offerings, but GOOD ENOUGH.

Something you need to learn kid - bands need to grow and mature, not fester in past glories. Megadeth have been playing that same damn setlist for over a decade, with only two songs off the album they are meant to be supporting. It doesn't matter if 'oh the poor kids want to hear the old stuff' you need to fucking evolve.

Heaven and Hell have even shot themselves in the foot by only playing three new songs off a short setlist that has become a greatest hits package. Point is, to sell the album you need to PLAY IT, otherwise it shows you don't care for your new material.

Every time I've seen Megadeth they've blown away their recordings. The first time I saw them was opening for King Diamond on the Fatal portrait tour, I was mostly into "heavier/evil-er" shit ala Mercyful Fate, Celtic Frost, Slayer, Destruction etc..., Dave was walking around drunk as hell and asked me for a joint, I pretty much scoffed @ him, I talked a load of shit before they played thinking they would suck, they came on and blew my face off, one of the best shows I've ever seen, Dave was flawless.
