EXTREME's NUNO BETTENCOURT Touring With RIHANNA - Nov. 16, 2009
Guitar virtuoso Nuno Bettencourt has joined forces with Rihanna and will be her 2010 world tour lead guitarist. The unexpected combination of Grammy Award-winning R&B artist Rihanna and rock guitarist Nuno Bettencourt has in fact become what Nuno says "a great opportunity to blend our talents to create a high-energy experience."

Nuno is best known for his work in the multiplatinum rock band EXTREME, where they were nominated for a Grammy for their Billboard chart-topping hit "More Than Words". Nuno has worked on many projects including, multiple solo albums, film scores and has also worked with notable artists such as Janet Jackson, Perry Farrell, Robert Palmer and many others.

Rihanna's choice to have Nuno in her band is a great surprise, and Nuno assures that her live sound is really complimentary to his "style." When he heard the direction Rihanna wants to go in a live setting Nuno said, "Wow, this rocks! It's heavy and funky, and it hit me that this is 'my' thing, this is 'my' style…"

Once Nuno and Rihanna blended their talents and began the first round of rehearsals, Nuno stated, "It did not disappoint. Even better than what I expected because she also has the most incredible band, and I get the privilege to add to their wall of sound. It's gonna be fun. Come see and hear it for yourself!"

Streaming live from London on November 16, Rihanna and Nuno will be performing tracks from her album, "Rated R", to a free online audience. Join in on the largest free music event of the year at nowplaying.nokia.com/join-us.

Rihanna's new album drops November 23.

Nuno's new endeavor as lead guitarist for Rihanna has just been one of many significant events for him in 2009. The renowned guitarist recently wrapped up dates of the EXTREME reunion tour and just recently made a music video for the CBS hit comedy "How I Met Your Mother". In addition, Nuno celebrated his twenty-year anniversary as an endorser of Washburn Guitars with the debut of his signature N4XX and also released a signature Randall half stack, the NBKING100, both to critical acclaim.

It is clear Nuno has been one of the most influential rock guitarists of our time, and will continue to do what he does best, perform. As for the future of EXTREME, Nuno explains, "NO… this is NOT the end of EXTREME. We have a live DVD and CD coming out in early 2010 and we will be writing new material throughout the year. We had a great run across the globe on 'Saudades de Rock'... and we'll be back."

"Saudades De Rihanna" indeed.

Mind you, her new song "Russian Roulette" does have a decent guitar riff for its intro so maybe Nuno's talent isn't being totally spent. It's the only Rihanna song I can tolerate though.

Can't say I've ever heard of Nuno Bettencourt or Rihanna are either metal? If not, why are they being discussed on a metal site?

a great example of musician vs guitar player.

guitar players are one dimensional people.

musicians are talented in regards to possessing skills that can be used for any/all genres.

collect that check, nuno!

I don't know but I hope this helps finance the Extreme live DVD/CD and new album, since "Saudades de Rock" didn't become a big hit except with us fans. It still sold more than anything Nuno did away from the band, but I hope as I want a followup to "Saudades de Rock" that album was great. Extreme is basically and Indie artist now so any promotion for Nuno helps sell Extreme albums in the future. Rihanna is a huge mainstream artist and she has got one of the best guitarists in the world working for her.

==She takes a better punch than Gary Cherone==
Gary's got some muscles on him, you really want to find that one out. Haha. How low of you.

Metal site??
What´s wrong with you, Nuno is making money and I bet he doesn´t give a shit about what people are going to think. What´s wrong with this news post?? Nothing!!
It´s funny these posts of true "metal" fans!! What´s wong if I listen to Extreme to Stryper to Trixter to Winger and then listen to Slayer, Killswitch Engage, Arch Enemy,etc...etc...????
You must be 20!!
And the last thing....
"Agent Provocateur"???
Did you know that´s a Foreigner album, DICK!! Very "Metal"!!
I hate close minded "Metal" fans!
peace!

I find it funny that all the people that are blasting Nuno, would probably be first in line if this opportunity came up for them. It would be so horrible to have Rhianna on your resume, and God forbid that it opened up more doors for your musical career and possibly lead to bigger and better things. It shows that Nuno is a well rounded musician. I bet the salary is pretty nice as well, which in these days is a blessing. I'm sure all of you would turn this down because of "metal pride." Please. Let the man be.

Who did Steve Vai play for on that awards show a couple years ago? Alicia Keys or something? Oh no! The Great Vai playing with someone like her.? Quick, call Billy Sheehan and let's get a dueling guitar/bass solo going, to revive integrity!

Seriously, even though Extreme aren't the heaviest of bands, I would say that do qualify as metal. Some form of progressive metal I would say, they're actually pretty hard to classify. Amazing guitar work, amazing everything. If you just know "More Than Words" then you don't know shit about this band. Same as those who only know "To Be With You" by Mr. Big. Shame, shame.

Mr Big and Extreme touring together would be the berries.

I just don't care for the "new look" of Frodo (i.e. Eric Martin).

The sad part: It looks he will be busy for a whole year.

The truth: An extraordinary guitar player like Nuno can't make much money playing rock in 21 century

My hope is Nuno don't put Extreme on ice again.

It doesn't appear like that will happen, I'm guessing we'll have the 6th Extreme studio album in early 2011. Looking forward to it as I thought "Saudades de Rock" was an excellent album, real rock. Plus the live DVD/CD is on it's way...

The varieties and differences of sub genres of METAL are huge.

I think it's the dumb dumbs that are young and maybe only get into the modern screamo malcore metal tha tdon't get it, but anyone who has lived long enough knows.

Here's one, even The Who were considered Heavy Metal in the late 60's early 70's by some standards then, as was Deep Purple.

It's all relative, as is everything, but METAL is huge tent with so many groups within.

Anyone who knows anything about Nuno will know that he grew up in a large family with loads of brothers and sisters and absorbed a very DIVERSE range of musical influences from them. Just because he is only 'known' for Extreme doesn't mean he doesn't have other aspects to his musical perosnality.

Good on him.
