MÖTLEY CRÜE's TOMMY LEE, MICK MARS Talk About 'Shout At The Devil', 'Dr. Feelgood' - Nov. 17, 2009

When MÖTLEY CRÜE completed their "Saints of Los Angeles" tour and "Crüe Fest 2" this summer, they turned their attention to their past, revamping their best-of collection for a fresh "Greatest Hits", which hits stores today. On the road, the band paid tribute to one of their milestones — the 20th anniversary of 1989's "Dr. Feelgood" — by playing the LP in its entirety. Vince Neil and Nikki Sixx were kind enough to take RollingStone.com through that album track by track earlier this year, and now Tommy Lee and Mick Mars weigh in on what made the record hit so hard. Best Buy features an exclusive CD/DVD package of the new collection with a 20-minute behind-the-scenes documentary filmed at "Crüe Fest 2", the sophomore outing of the band's summer festival tour.

The "The Animal In Me" remix is now available for streaming on the band's MySpace page.

CRÜE performed its classic 1989 album, "Dr. Feelgood", in its entirety on Crüe Fest 2 to celebrate the record's 20th anniversary.

Eleven Seven Music/Mötley Records re-released "Dr. Feelgood" on September 21.

Originally issued on September 1, 1989, "Dr. Feelgood" reached #1 on the Billboard chart and went on to sell more than seven million copies worldwide. The title track reached No. 7 on the Hot 100 and earned the band their first two Grammy nominations (Best Hard Rock Performance: "Dr Feelgood" in 1989 and "Kickstart My Heart" in 1990). Twenty years later, the band was nominated for another Grammy Award and is celebrating its hit album "Saints of Los Angeles" on an arena tour of the U.S.

"Dr. Feelgood" was released as a deluxe version incorporating two CDs. The original version of "Dr. Feelgood" on one CD, and on the other a smorgasbord of delights! — four original demos from the "Dr. Feelgood" sessions, four tracks recorded live when the band played in Russia, plus a remix of "Get It For Free".

Got to hear the whole Dr. Feelgood album performed live this year at Crue Fest 2. It was a dream come true that along with hearing British steel from Priest on their tour this year.

But back on topic:

Hope Motley decides to do the whole Shout At The Devil album next in it's enterity next time they tour, There are some great rare tracks on their that they never really play live. Like B**tard , Danger , Red Hot , Too Young To Fall In Love etc. etc.

Or Too Fast For Love would be a great second choice of album to play as well. Some rare tracks on their need to be heard live too.

Like Piece of your action , On with the show , Public Enemey #1 and so on.

I got into Crue when Girls just came out and loved that album. Then when Feelgood came out I was totally let down. Feelgood is way overrated, isn't it? It's missing some metal balls, or crunch.

In my opinion, the true band doesn't do greatest hits. Like Metallica for instance. Crue is the worst case, the greatest hits No. 3 or 5. Lost count. They won't get a penny from me for that.

I agree they have made too many greatest hits albums. but still Metallica havent made a good album in 20 years unlike Crue, The Motley Crue album was great and the others are fine too. ok Death Magnetic is an ok album but nothing more.
and Motley Crue didnt sellout as nearly as much as Metallica did. especialy when Metallica was making fun of Motley Crue for dating sexy girls and do lots of drugs and alcohol, when that was what they realy wanted but they were just too ugly for it.
Shout at the Devil and Dr Feelgood along with the Motley Crue album are their best.

I think of WASP. WASP shouldn't have stopped with the Chris Holmes in the pool, drinking in front of his mom, for that movie "Decline of Western...". Chris should have F'd a famous chick, like Kirstie Allie (or something), Blackie should have been more irresponsible and embarrassed himself in public. Shit like that to get noticed. Motley is shit compared to WASP since they have a weak vocalist, corny lyrics and rehash old music that was forced down the publics throats in the first place with MTV/radio. I think Nikki will admit that in private.

about this package... I have already 3 greatest hits discs by Motley and a live album (didn't but the carnival live... already got the DVD).... I'll probably pass on this one...

Bands should realize that it's better to release a live DVD after a tour ends than those best-of things with one or two new tunes (or a remix of one track, in this case)... Live DVDs are cool... Best-Of CDS are lame...

Its hard to want to buy something like this for those of us who have all of their music. I remember walking down the street with my gheto blaster,, shout at the devil bouncing off the houses,, this was back in 1980 something. I think I was 13 or maybe 15,,, Its weird how Crue was just metal back then. All us kids listened to accept, acdc, sabbath, crue, scorpions, metallica, venom, megadeth etc. It was all just metal back in the day.

haha yea maybe WASP should have done some of the stuff Crue did but they didnt, and Crue paid there dues by playing for few people few years and so on just like most of the bands from that time and they did things there way, but its always good to have big company behind you and all that, just ask Metallica, they started making slower songs to get airplay and it worked for them but the worst thing about them is that many fans of the Black album only know One, Unforgiven, Enter Sandman and so on and barely know or like Master of Puppets, but thats what happens when you get real big you get lots of soso fansthat just listen to the radiohits .

You'd be amazed at how many great albums and bands Tom Werman produced, most of which were the best albums of those bands' careers. Werman's mixes always sounded great, and his arrangements were razor sharp. He was a hit machine. Twisted Sister owes all their success to Stay Hungry, produced by Werman, even though they did a "heavier" remix 2 years ago, not bad actually.
