LACUNA COIL's CRISTINA SCABBIA Stars In New PETA2 Ad - Nov. 17, 2009
LACUNA COIL singer, cover girl, and animal defender Cristina Scabbia is the star of a brand-new public service announcement for peta2, the world's largest youth animal rights organization. In the ad, Scabbia urges shoppers to seek out only cruelty-free products and appears above the tagline "Animal Testing Breaks Hearts."

Scabbia, who cowrites an advice column for Revolver magazine, doesn't hesitate to advise against animal testing. "I am only human," she says. "But it feels obvious to me that testing on innocent animals for the sake of our own beauty is absolutely inhumane."

Mice, rats, rabbits, and guinea pigs are burned, blinded, and beheaded to test personal-care products such as shampoo and mascara. No law requires manufacturers to test these items on animals, and hundreds of companies have pledged to use only modern, effective, non-animal tests. A list of cruelty-free companies is available here.

LACUNA COIL is one of many metal bands to join with peta2 and speak up for animals. Visitors to peta2.com will find interviews with all their favorite bands and celebrities — including CRADLE OF FILTH, THE AGONIST, OTEP, KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, LAMB OF GOD, and TRIVIUM. They can also enter contests to win great prizes, including free iPods and concert tickets.

As much as I dislike PETA for the most part, as I think that they are rather unethical, I do like these ad campaigns, because they aren't using their questionable statistics and other propaganda to get a good point across. I love this ad.

its impossible to count all the lives that have been saved by animal testing.

PETA, when they aren't throwing blood on children at Disneyland, they're trying to prevent medical discoveries.

Great fuckin' cause you got there Cristina (with the backwards "N").

Good thing you're pretty...

I liked when PETA was at sounds of the underground. They showed some slaughter house video while a bunch of metal heads are standing around drinking beer and eating hot dogs. I think most just thought it was a metal video :)

On a serious note, Food Inc. is worth checking out. Test shit on animals and eat all the meat ya want. Just note the way we are mass producing this stuff is screwing up peoples health.

Animal testing for medical purposes sucks, but is necessary, as it would be impossible to have any kind of medical breakthroughs without it. Animal testing for cosmetic purposes is wrong and cruel. If your product is so harmful that you can't test it on humans, then you probably shouldn't be selling it.

Prove that blabbermouth is full of ignorant, insensitive rednecks. And talking about animal testing for medical purposes, that's unnecessary nowadays, research is done mostly with other methofs, luckily. On the other hand, animal testing for cosmetic purposes hasn't been useful for years, but I doubt some of the rednecks above shall care about it.

RAZETEPES you are 100% correct. Peta puts animals ahead or people. Testing on animals for cosmetics sucks. In truth most testing is done for medical research to save Human Lives.

I love animals however Humans lives or more important than animal lives. You disagree how would you like to lose a child wife husband mom dad to a disease that could have been cured through animal testing!!!!

What a crock of shit here. Yesterday on this same site when it's Opeth, Motorhead, and Amon Amarth, no doubt fave bands around here, donating their time for animal rights every body keeps their traps shut.

Since we're talking Lacuna Coil, Otep, The Agonist, Killswitch, and Trivium, bands that get more than a little hate from posters on this site, all the PETA/animal rights "experts" come out of the woodwork.

aruba766 summed it up nicely as to what this thread is really all about:

"i was expecting at least one decent metal band to be included in this list, but they're all lame"

(Just for the record, I'm not an animal activist, consume meat and a fan of all the bands above. My bullshit detector just went into overdrive reading these posts.)

If there weren't people denouncing animal abuse nobody would have to feel bad about it, the problem wouldn't exist, but since they are out there let's make them look evil, so it's not a problem with our ways, it's a problem with the activists. The easy cowardish way to set the matter."

We kill animals to eat, to wear, to test things on. When we need more animals to eat, wear, test, etc... we breed more for that purpose.......welcome to mankind. Its been that way for millions of years.

Now stop being such a pussy & join the real world.

... but what PETA does wrong is that they're too dogmatic. Trying to educate people that way has never worked, and the comments above prove that.

http://beyondveg.com/cat/paleodiet/index.shtml

Before you read the link, I am a medical practitioner who has seen scores of patients. The ones who are chronically ill without resolvent in their maladies are the vegetarians.

Not every person can be vegan. I'm one of them. If I eat only rabbit food, I am ill, weak, have no potency, have trouble with the chicks.

Back on meat, I'm strong, not depressed or weak.

I've seen Food, Inc. but guess what? I buy free range and grass-fed meat. I don't buy anything in the center of the supermarket unless it's a health food store.

Grains are cereal killers, and last time I checked that's what these vegans eat a lot of. About 30% of population is sensitive to these grains.

I'm Pro meat, and Anti-Grain.

Don't let the die-hard vegans try to sell you on studies that "prove" they are right. I've looked at all of them, the data is skewed, the studies are meaningless.

Carnosine is loaded in beef, and it provides protection against the shortening of telomeres. Grass-fed beef is for longevity!

Maybe you've heard that vegans are at risk for brain shrinkage, yep it's the B12, but I can name several other nutrients they are not getting.

Sure, you can be a healthy vegan, it's not just for everybody, especially me.

Did I miss something, or is this article about animal testing? For all those who came to justify their ways here, especially those preaching meat eating...those who care about animal well being care less about your opinion. What are your expectations anyway? Upon reading a comment that says "eat meat, its good for you" should someone adhering to his/her values change his/her mind, be enlightened?

Science, as well as human reasoning, can prove or justify almost any means, that serve human ends. Are we treating animals only as a mean to our end? Is it unethical to exploit animals the way humans do? No doubt. Is there another way? Is there an alternative? How my life, and my well being, does not depend on taking another life? These are the questions that should be addressed, concerns of those mute, animals (believe it or not, animals have concerns too), not humans.

For those who are speaking loudest, saying nothing, posting a screen long comments to attract...go and educate your self in this topic first. Singer´s animal liberation could be a good start, if you want to take part in a competent discussion. At least try to understand some viewpoints of those who care, instead of just having an opinion for its own sake.
