DIO: European Tour Cancelled; RONNIE JAMES DIO Hospitalized

DIO — the band fronted by legendary heavy metal vocalist Ronnie James Dio ( HEAVEN & HELL, BLACK SABBATH, RAINBOW) — has cancelled its previously announced European tour after Ronnie was taken ill. " Ronnie has been hospitalized and we are waiting for further news," the singer's wife/manager Wendy Dio told BLABBERMOUTH.NET. DIO's lineup for the European tour was supposed to include WHITESNAKE/ex- DIO axeman Doug Aldrich due to the fact that the band's regular guitarist, Craig Goldy, had prior touring commitments with BUDGIE in Australia. DIO's "Killing The Dragon" album from 2002 was released in June on limited-edition vinyl with a gatefold pop-up cover via Night Of The Vinyl Dead. Only 500 hand-numbered copies were manufactured. "Killing The Dragon" was originally released by Spitfire Records. DIO's "The Very Beast of Dio" was officially certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America ( RIAA) on March 11, 2009 for shipments in the United States in excess of 500,000 copies. Issued in October 2000, "The Very Beast of Dio" is the second greatest-hits collection CD — and the first to be released in the U.S. — from the Ronnie James Dio-fronted band. DIO's last release was the "Holy Diver Live" CD, featuring a performance of the classic "Holy Diver" album in its entirety, from start to finish, recorded live for the very first time in 2005 in front of a sold-out London crowd. It also includes, among others, "Heaven & Hell", "Sign of the Southern Cross" and "Mob Rules" from vocalist Ronnie James Dio's BLACK SABBATH days, "Tarot Woman", "Man on the Silver Mountain" and "Long Live Rock 'N' Roll" from the RAINBOW era and "We Rock" from his solo career. At Ronnie's (approximate) age, hospitalization is not usually for no reason. While it's doubtful that either he or anybody from his organization read this, everybody should be sending good vibes his way, regardless.

I was just thinking yesterday about Rock Star mortality and how all of our heroes are getting older and how the inevitable is around the corner. But I was also thinking that Dio will probably live be in his 80's. Kind of freaked out to see this headline.

I have seen some of your posts on the previous thread. The fact that you can't stnd Dio and reckon he is crap is fine, like others have said, your opinion.
I really don't care to try and educate you but this is not the time and place to be making jokes.
It sounds by all account like Ronnie is not well and there are a lot of concerned fans, myself being one of them.

I have been a fan of Dio since he was in Sabbath the first time but it was not until the mid 90s that our paths crossed on a professional level. Through the numerous meetings and dealings I had with Ronnie, he and Wendy were always the nicest, most professional people you would want to work with. Even after our business relationship had come to an end in 2003 I was still greeted with warmth and consideration every time I had the pleasure of atteneding one of his performances. Wendy would go out of her way to accomodate myself and the guests I would bring to the shows and Ronnie was always very gracious and generous with his time answering questions that he had probably answered hundreds of times, signing autographs and posing for photos. A true gentleman and great artist. Get well soon!

Luckily, people live much longer nowadays than they use to. He's about two or three years older than my dad. Hopefully he just got something that's not too bad and is just being extra-cautious; he's got to be a pretty smart guy to have been able to be so successful for so many years, so I doubt he would do something stupid like allowing his health to jeopardise his career.
I am optimistic.

I have been a Ronnie James Dio fan since Rainbow. I was ecstatic when he took over for Ozzy in Black Sabbath. I always believed this is where he belonged. I was saddened when left, rejoined and then left again.
When he came back to Sabbath and they called themselves Heaven And Hell, it was a tremendous high!
Finally, Ronnie back where he was meant to be!
I sat in the 5 th row at Radio City Music Hall for Heaven And Hell. I have seen them twice at the PNC Art Center in NJ, I just saw them in MSG this year. The new CD kicks ass! I was waiting for Tony's hand to heal and Ronnie, Tony, Geezer and Vinnie to hit the road again and then, another CD!
When I read Ronnie had taken ill, it was like someone punched me in the stomach and took all the air out of me!
Ronnie I hope all goes well. I'm selfish and I want more Heaven And Hell. You guys should've never broken up. Too many wasted years apart. Get better and DO NOT waste anymore. Add to the wonderful legacy of Sabbath/Heaven And Hell!

Ronnie, should this be read to you, know that I as a fan wish you the speediest of recoveries. I have listened to your music for over twenty years, and your talent is truly the greatest. You can sing like no other, you write lyrics that make me stop and think and which I apply to everyday situations, and your passion seems unrivaled. You are truly one of the most gifted performers in all of music, not just heavy metal.
Whenever I'm down, I always turn to your music to pick me up, and it works without fail. There is no album of yours with Dio, Sabbath, Rainbow, etc. that I ever get tired of hearing, and that's saying something after twenty-plus years of constantly playing them.
Coincidently, I was recently marveling at how you didn't take an extended break between touring with Heaven & Hell and with Dio, thinking you probably should allow yourself time off, but then remembering how many times you have said in interviews that you love to perform for an audience. When Holy Diver came out, I think it was Jim Ladd at KMET 94.7 who said something to the effect that DIO had the new/ultimate pipes in Heavy Metal. That music sounded heavy back in '84 & compared to what's out today, it is still Heavy Metal!
No comparison to him today & no one to take any torch away from RJD 'cos Legends never go away...I want to see Heaven & Hell again, so get well Ronnie & relax for a while! We fans really appreciate you getting back with Iommi again, & the tour with Priest was amazing!

I was so sad to hear this news yesterday. First chance I got I checked for updates on Ronnies condition this morning but still no news. I really hope he is OK.
We had tickets to see him next week. I've been looking forward to it for ages and it would have been the first time my husband had seen Dio. I have been playing Ronnies music to my hubby and little son. My baby is 21 months old and as we both watched the " holy Diver live," video this morning he was air drumming saying " dio, dio," :-) I really hop by little one will get to see Dio for real one day.
Ronnies music has been part of my life for as long as I remember. My dad used to recite lyrics from Rainbow albums for my bedtime stories.
Please look after your self and get well soon Ronnie. You and your music means so much to so many people

This comment is addressed to Wendy Dio, because I know that you always read Blabbermouth. You and Ronnie have been divorced for many years. Ronnie has admitted this in interviews with Eric Blair. It was done with subtlety, but he admitted it. Why then do you allow Blabbermouth and other news sources to believe that you are still Ronnie's wife? The fact that you have forged a good friendship and have maintained an excellent professional relationship is commendable, and should be enough. There's no reason to pretend otherwise. In the entertainment world, there are few people who have been able to do that. Why isn't that enough? Now you might throw this in the trash, but it won't change what is, you know that. Come on Wendy, admit the truth. It's wrong to mislead people, you know that. You'll be respected for being honest, believe me.

First I would like to say a Very Big Thank You Ronnie! I lived in Russia when I was a child and it was extremely difficult to listen to any kind of Good music. I spent all my childhood with you singing in Elf, Rainbow, Black Sabbath and DIO. I remember the present on one of my birthdays. It was Time Machine DVD. That was the first time I saw you on video. I was so much amazed! It was so marvellous! For many years I was wishing to see you live! And that day came! Oh, Ronnie, you can't even imagine how one could feel to see you, the Neon Knight! Seriously, I felt the magic has come! Thank you very much for your Energy, for you brilliant music, for the lyrics! They make me feel the power, the strength when life is turning bad. It gives the hope, it gives the sense of magic!

First off clairek - What does it matter if he & Wendy are married or divorced? Thats their business, only reason it would matter to anyone else is if you're wanting to sleep with one (or both) of them! The music is what matters, if Wendy was doing the vocals and Ronnie was lip syncing, yeah then its the fans business, their private life isn't.
Now the real stuff
Wendy, I met you a couple weeks ago at the "Day in thier paws" (I'm the one from Virginia) It was great seeing Ronnie again and finally meeting you, you both are really sweet caring people! Please let Ronnie know I am thinking about him and sending majical healing thoughts his way. I know the guy pushes himself to the limits so make him listen to the docs and take some rest & relaxation time to recouperate. Let him know he owes me a Va show (at Jaxx) but I'll wait as long as it takes ;)
By the way I sure hope its not food or alcohol poisoning from those Va goodies I brought! Thats a guilt I'd never get over!!!

I have seen the great man every year on tour since 1987, and met him several times.
He is the best performer this world has, and one of the nicest guys ever made, always has time for his fans and always great to be around.
Hoping that it is nothing serious, and we hope to see you back on your feet and on tour soon - but take your time, we will wait ;)

Ronnie very subtlly stated that he and Wendy are no longer married. These are his words, not mine!! Check it out. Yet, Wendy allows news sources to believe that they are still married. Why? There is no reason for it. Ronnie is closemouthed about his personal life, but he never lies. By not owning up, she puts Ronnie's own words in doubt. For an ex-wife to be so supportive after bad times they obviously went through, that shows a good side of Wendy. I did say all that if you'd bothered to look. As a fan, I'm only advising her to support the statements that Ronnie HIMSELF made. Do you realize how commendable it is for a divorced couple to remain on such good personal and business terms in the entertainment world? It's rare!!! Believe me!!! I said nothing about you personally, my words were "only reason it would matter to anyone" anyone, see that means anyone who feels the Dios personal life is their business, not just you although you do seem to be included in that group.
As for your sexuality, your right, none of my business and I really dont care or want to know. Again referring to "anyone" who cares if they're married or not the only reason would be if they had a sexual interest in one or both of them. I said one or both to cover all the people mentioned in "anyone" So no I couldnt give two shits if your a heterosexual, homosexual, zoophile or necrophiliac. Whatever makes you happy girl go for it.
I am well aware of the marital situation and the interview you speak of. I just don't see what the big deal is or why its any of the fans business. If Ronnie was upset by her words I'm sure either she wouldn't use them or they wouldn't be the good friends they are. You say theres no reason for her to say it but obviously there is or she wouldn't do it, maybe its a business thing, maybe it's a comfort thing, hell maybe they got back together and didnt tell the fans. Who knows, point is it seems to be ok with them and you seem to be highly upset about it.
As for Wendy being my new friend and me kissing butt, no, I'd be honored to call her a friend but she's not. I've been lucky enough to meet both RJD & Wendy and they're great people but I don't know them well enough to call them friends and have no reason to kiss their butts. I doubt I'd get much respect out of either of them if I did anyway.

I told her that I admired the way she's supporting Ronnie. But business or otherwise, she should be supporting Ronnie's statements. There is no reason for her to be pretending to be his wife--which I know for a fact that she is not.What's so terrible about being your ex-husband's manager and good friend? In Hollywood, you don't see that very often. It says a great deal about both of them.Now we know that as a rule, Ronnie likes to keep his personal life private. As his manager, Wendy was well aware of what was said and should be supporting what he said. Also, when Ronnie acknowledges Wendy publicly, he always refers to her as "my manager". Ronnie was always honest about her when they were married, and unlike many musicians, wore his wedding ring for all to see. He hid nothing. I have to agree with you on this, the most important thing right now is that the man we love is sick. That is priority. I just got tired of seeing news items over a long period of time that were untrue. I didn't just wake up one morning and decide to call Wendy out on this. And I had asked BLABBERMOUTH awhile back to either ask Ronnie about it or to check it out for themselves. Before I end this, you might think that I was tough on Wendy, but I don't agree. RJD is a God!!! I agree one hundred per cent!!! Calling me names is idiotic. My comments were based on Ronnie's own words, I did not make up anything. A manager is obligated to support those words. There's no reason to pretend otherwise. Wendy is apparently a thoughtful manager/friend, and yes, ex-wife. Considering that they have been divorced for so many years , and Ronnie has confirmed this of his own free will, despite the fact that he is usually so closemouthed about his personal life, there should be no question of who Wendy is. News sources should not be misled, it serves no purpose. Ronnie refers to Wendy as "MY manager", that's it. You do not know me Jeff, so keep your comments to yourself.
