STONE TEMPLE PILOTS Postpone Dates In Order To Complete New Album - Nov. 18, 2009
STONE TEMPLE PILOTS have postponed their previously announced December and January tour dates until next year so they can complete work on their highly anticipated new album. The CD is being helmed by famed producer Don Was, who has previously worked with THE ROLLING STONES, IGGY POP and POISON, among many others.

STONE TEMPLE PILOTS' plan to release the record has been complicated by a legal dispute between STP's label, Atlantic Records, singer Scott Weiland and drummer Eric Kretz. Reports have indicated that Weiland and Kretz consider themselves free agents and are looking for a new deal, while the label claims they are bound to their original contract.

The new album will be the first from the band since 2001's "Shangri-La-Dee-Da". During STP's hiatus, guitarist Dean DeLeo told The Pulse of Radio that he and his brother, bassist Robert DeLeo, kept their songwriting chops up by working with artists ranging from PINK to PETER FRAMPTON. "We've been on a lot of writing sessions over the years and you know what? It's kind of cool, man, 'cause you go from writing with PINK to, like, PETER FRAMPTON and that's a wide array of music, you know," he said. "And it's kind of cool. You get to really cover a lot of terrain, man."

STONE TEMPLE PILOTS were reactivated in 2008 after a six-year hiatus, during which Scott Weiland recorded two albums with VELVET REVOLVER. He also issued his second solo record, "Happy In Galoshes", late last year, after STP completed its six-month comeback tour.

The DeLeos recorded one album with ARMY OF ANYONE, a project they started with FILTER frontman Richard Patrick.

Looking forward to this, I really like Core and 4. I though 4 had a really cool vide, kinda heavy and dark. I know that STP is not heavy but the album had some heavy elements to it. Down is a great song!!

This is just to remind you guys that Blabbermouth is NOT a metal-only site. For real.

Good for Scott and the boys, they're gonna make another cool album! All the STP cds were great, with awesome musicians, except Core was done in the grunge days and needs a facelift (remaster).

PURPLE was amazing (Interstate Love Song, Vasoline, etc), then TINY MUSIC (Art School Girl, Big Bang Baby) was one of their very best IMO... and then Shangri-La and No.4 were awesome.

I just saw STP in Winnipeg last Saturday night. This Tour is not being postponed to record a new album. Scott Weiland was high as a kite on stage... and he could barely move he was so stoned.

Anyone there could see it... even the radio station the next morning couldn't shut up about how bad he looked.

Good news. I would much rather hear a new STP record than VR. As for its sound, maybe a combination of past albums for some diversity. I hope they don't go following trends and put out an emocore album or some shit.

It was the best live show of the 4 I have seen from them. They were at the top of their game.

I can't wait to hear the new music. The absence of Brendan O'brien should be interesting, and good.

wtf?!?!!? I thought they resolved that shit already, hence why they recorded a new album? damn! This caught get ugly. expect delays.

And yes 'no.4' is an underrated record. Not all the songs are instant, but in terms of arrangement, that album is very interesting, and has stood up well.

COMMENT | All STP albums were great.

Every STP album pretty much kicks ass, if Weiland can still belt it out like he did on Purple, Tiny Music (amazing vocals), and kick ass like he did on "Down", "Meatplow", "Silvergun Superman", and "All In The Suit That You Wear", they'll be in good shape. I know the 3 other STP members always kick ass, I just hope Weiland can muster the power, he seems a little flaky in recent years.

are among the elite rock bands of the 90's, they are right there with Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, etc. This will be an awesome album. 8 1/2 years since the last album and counting.

Soundgarden? We need them back. Cornell has strayed from the rightious path, only Soundgarden can redeem his soul!

Satire.. of course, he can do as he pleases although it would be cool to see them reunite.

right on. If you like STP, each album is great. The last of the real rock bands, with great guitar, vocals, songwriting. Their last CD is very underrated, sort of an extention of "4"....they mix it up better than anyone, like the old bands did, heavy & light. And they can outheavy most metal bands. Dean D would be considered a guitar hero if he were around in the 70's...but they let alot of prime years slip away, the ideas & energy start slipping away, especially if Scott is back on drugs.

I recently read that Weiland had fallen off the wagon again.

You know, I feel bad for the other members of this band, having to deal with this problem seemingly over and over again. They cancelled a tour to Australia, back in the day and in the past 12 months or so, VR had to cancel their Australian tour, due to 'illness' or another lame and coded reason. Then there was the assault charges and prison time...

I just don't get why they keep trying with Scott. He's a cool performer, but it's not like he's the greatest frontman ever and could never be replaced.

STP should fire him outright, as with VR and maybe being dumped by everybody in his life, might get him to wake the hell up and fix his life, not just detox.

I know it's not exactly mentioned in this story, but I get so sick of hearing 'boo hoo' stories about drugs, from 'rockstars'. Go and get clean and get some therapy if life's been so cruel to you. It's been cruel to a fuck load of others too, but not all of us decided to wear our addiction [or sobriety for that matter] on our sleeves or use our shitty lives to justify bad behavior and drug taking.

/end rant.

I agree with you, unfortunately their best chances for acceptance, sales, making a living is with Scott. Starting over with a new lead singer, especially in your mid 40's is probably a ticket to obscurity. Fans want STP with Scott...and they tried Talk Show & that band with the Filter guy, neither really took off...but you are right, they should just fire him as far as productivity is concerned.
