SLASH Defends FERGIE Singing 'Paradise City' - Nov. 19, 2009
According to The Pulse of Radio, Slash took to Twitter to defend BLACK EYED PEAS singer Fergie's (a.k.a. Stacy Ann Ferguson) vocal performance on a new recording she did with Slash of the GUNS N' ROSES classic "Paradise City", also featuring CYPRESS HILL. A copy of the recording surfaced online last week (hear audio below), while Slash is contemplating whether to include it on his new solo album. The former GUNS guitarist tweeted, "Until now, not too many people have heard Fergie sing rock & roll but she sings it better (than) most dudes I know. She's a screamer at heart."

The self-titled record is tentatively due out in March 2010.

Among the other guests appearing on the album are Dave Grohl, Flea, Chris Cornell, Duff McKagan, WOLFMOTHER's Andrew Stockdale, Iggy Pop, Alice Cooper, Nicole Scherzinger, Meat Loaf, MAROON 5's Adam Levine and Ozzy Osbourne, who contributes vocals to the first single.

Slash told MusicRadar.com earlier this month that he got almost every special guest he wanted to appear on his upcoming solo album, except for one: WHITE STRIPES singer/guitarist and DEAD WEATHER drummer Jack White. Slash revealed, "I wanted to get Jack White to sing on something, but he didn't want to sing. He said I'll play drums, I'll play guitar, but I don't wanna sing. He was one guy that I wanted to work with. Pretty much everyone else that I went after I managed to get."

"I don't even remember that request, but I love Slash'Appetite' ['for Destruction'] is one of the best rock albums of the past 20-30 years," White told MTV.com. "I don't remember exactly what that request was, but, you know, I don't really like those albums where every song is a different person — that Santana thing, that's not interesting to me. But I think he's a really interesting guitar player."

"Paradise City" (featuring CYPRESS HILL and Fergie [a.k.a. Stacy Ann Ferguson] of the BLACK EYED PEAS):

I am a failed drummer.
I am a star in a bar.
I played drums for a guy that's name rhymes with Mackie.
Now I play cover songs in Florida and pretend I'm all thaty.
I've got thinning grey hair that I die jet black.
I wish to god I could make a come back.
I was never a real band member only a hired gun.
I guess you could say I was never anyone.
I'll tell you I love you then threaten to sue.
I've got man boobs bigger than you.
I've got a piece of shit RV in my wifes name.
Got the cops called on us - oh what a shame.
I got thrown around the boss's cage.
I'm jealous and my heart's so full of rage.
He's bigger he's stronger he's richer by far.
I'm a side guy and he's a singing star.
Why is it that I'm such a loser.
Such a lame piece of shit and oh such a boozer.
He's got it all a great big house.
I have maggots, ants, and even a mouse.
I lost my mind a long time ago.
Wish my life was better - say it isn't so.
I leave you today with this tiny request.
Some one please tell me my drumming's the best!
I SUCK!

Do not include this garbage on the cd...it will detract from any of the other solo stuff....if you wanna f around with your friends and play these songs in the privacy of your own home thats fine, but this version is blasphemous to the O.G. Paradise City...
The fact he has to DEFEND the song, proves the point that it sucks.

Let's put it this way: I'd prefer if she made music like this instead of the crap she comes up with all the time.

Yea, not a big fan of Cypress hill on it but this chicks pipes cleaned up this song. Think people need to stop hating on people trying to do new things I love this version... The whole sound of the song is bad is the problem. How many good songs do you get on an album or dvd?Usually one or two. I would not buy the album based on hearing this song.I know Slash has played live with Fergie a lot and maybe they should have recorded the best live performance and not done anything else to the song and it may have been better. Also the rumor is that when Rihanna wanted to make her last album heavy metal she wanted Nuno Bettencourt to play on it but the record company said no because that was too metal but Slash played on it. So there are record company people who do not consider him as hard core as he used to be.I am a fan though as I have heard some amazing sounds from him that knock you out. This sound isn't on this song though.

Take out a lot of that background, A lot of it just comes across as discordant noise.Strip it down some. You are losing the main guitar which sounds excellent and the upfront vocals in noise in a lot of spots and it jars you out of the flow.Where's the solo? You can't really hear it.

I like it.

I'm a die-hard 'Appetite' fan and 'Paradise City' is my favorite song from that album, but I like this take on the classic track.

Fergie is exhibiting good pipes and is singing it with emotion.

Anyone who doesn't like it is a closed-minded sunuvabitch. Gonna grow up to be old lonely grumpy old men.

But everytime I hear about Fergie I think about that time she wet herself onstage.

it almost there - the rap needs to be nastier - fergie needs to raunchier - the bed track needs to be heavier - the bridge coulda been a bit more etherial - ( if that's what they were going for ) ... not bad really ... she almost sounds like axl in parts - squeezin that whine outta her little ole nose -

almost there - perhaps a remix

The chick singing is nothing spectacular she’s just ok; Cypress Hill is cool when they are doing their own thing but here they completely butcher this song. Slash must have been high when making this, but that happens when you’re in a studio recording with Cypress Hill.
