SNOT Is Back... As TONS - Nov. 20, 2009
TONS — the new band featuring the remaining members of the reformed legendary Santa Barbara metal/punk rock hybrid SNOT (Mike Doling on guitar, John "Tumor" Fahnestock on bass and Jamie Miller on drums) alongside new vocalist Brandon — has posted the first two tracks on its MySpace page. Check out the songs "Ability & Control" and "1,000 Ways Of Pain" at this location.

SNOT parted ways with frontman Tommy Vext (a.k.a. Tommy Cummings) and axeman Sonny Mayo earlier in the year after a five-month songwriting period which produced "a lot of strain on relationships within the band," according to Doling.

Regarding TONS' latest addition, Doling wrote in a June 2009 post, "He's blowing our fucking minds... It's been such an amazing time working as a four-piece...

"The writing is going smoooooth!! I do gotta say, I miss my friends Sonny and Tommy. Like I said, I wish the best for them!! This seems like it was meant to be this way somehow.

"We are writing punk fuckin' rock and funky grooves... the way SNOT is supposed to sound."

SNOT disbanded in 1998 following the death of the group's lead singer, Lynn Strait. Lynn died in a car accident in December 1998, putting an end to a career that generated considerable promise but only one studio album, the 1997 Geffen Records release "Get Some". Also killed was the band's mascot Dobbs, Strait's dog who adorned the cover of SNOT's debut album. The band had been writing material for its sophomore CD and had completed 10 songs at the time of Strait's tragic passing. As a memorial to Strait, SNOT eventually decided to release those tracks, with lyrics and guest vocals provided by a host of stars from the alt-metal community. The resulting album, "Strait Up", was a fitting tribute from Strait's peers and friends, featuring members of LIMP BIZKIT, KORN, SLIPKNOT, SEVENDUST, (HED) P.E., COAL CHAMBER, SUGAR RAY, SYSTEM OF A DOWN, SOULFLY, and more.

Brandon: Vocals.... That's the guy who was working with Spineshank and it didn't work out. He sounds better with these guys anyway, He can't hold a candle to Jonny Santos. Although this project is not as cool without Sonny Mayo. At least they are not going to call it "Snot" they just flip it backwards cuz' there SO creative. Let's see how long this goes...

Saying SNOT is back is supposed to make me want to listen this this band?

SNOT sucked. Just clicked over to listen to "TONS" and they are carrying the torch alright, sucking just as much.

If I want to get in a time machine and go back to the years when shit music like Korn, Limp Bizkit, Deftones, and all that nu-metal shit was huge, I would just listen to that old garbage. But it sucked then and sucks now.

Give up TONS. Perhaps it was a sign when bands break up.

Am I retarded.. umm hardly. Probably got alot more going for me and pleasure myself alot less than you do. Quit making dumbshit comments and grow up already. I only clicked on this to see if the super fan posted here, and he did! Thanks for the entertainment, Chuck.
I love how you address the members of the band directly on here. Quality. I am, however, surprised you're actually saying this is an improvement over the last line up since you were convinced they would be carrying the torch of modern music, much as the band would have had Lynn not died. In your opinion, of course. Pretty much the rest of the world realizes they'd have been dropped before their next record, anyway.

I am a man that can dig all kinds of shit, from Daemonarch to Ani Difranco. Snot simply was never a great band. Hardly good, in my opinion. And the new screamo crap this band put on MySpace recently was even worse.

A tragic thing when Lynn died, no doubt, but no reason to put these dudes on such a pedestal.

My opinion, of course.

I never understood why this band was such a huge deal. "Stoopid" was a catchy jam and all but beyond that....not much to grab my attention. Sounds like even near-palindromes won't change my opinion anytime soon.

Holy christ, these fucking clowns don't know when to quit. They are hell-bent on earning themselves a buck or two solely on the fact that it's 3/5ths of the original Snot line-up.

When I heard that they were reuniting as Snot with Tommy Vext, I wasn't sold on it, but I started to warm up to the idea after hearing "The Band Plays On". I thought there was some potential there.

Now, Tommy and Sonny are gone and they are STILL attempting to use the Snot name to earn a buck.

GIVE. IT. UP.

Seriously, this has some real potential as a project...but in all honesty, call the band something else. "Tons" is neither clever, nor original.

It's unfortunate that these douchebags are ruining the Snot name with this bullshit. What a legacy to leave behind in Lynn's memory.
