SAXON Joined By ANVIL Frontman For 'Denim And Leather' Performance; Video Available - Nov. 20, 2009
Fan-filmed video footage of ANVIL frontman Steve "Lips" Kudlow joining British heavy metal legends SAXON on stage at the O2 Academy in Leeds, U.K. on November 10, 2009 to perform the classic song "Denim And Leather" can be viewed below.

SAXON just a completed a U.K. tour with ANVIL and SUIDAKRA in the support slots.

Commented SAXON frontman Biff Byford: "We are starting writing songs for the next album next week. Also mixing all the live recordings.. 'Heavy Metal Thunder - The Movie', Wacken 2004, 2007, 2009 and Sheffield. Also listening to old recordings and mixing them.

"We are hoping to be playing some festivals around the world next year, we were thinking to maybe play all the tracks of 'Wheels Of Steel' (and/or 'Strong Arm Of The Law') as a special. It is the 30th anniversary of those albums and the NWOBHM. Although we don't want to live on past glories we cannot ignore the influence this period of British rock had around the globe.

"What do you think? Should we do this or not?"

The upcoming documentary on SAXON, "Heavy Metal Thunder - The Movie", has had its projected release date pushed back to March 1, 2010. The delay was caused by the filmmakers' (U.K.'s Coolhead Productions) desire to include newly discovered vintage footage and additional interviews.

Produced by the makers of the critically acclaimed "Ian Gillan: Highway Star" (Universal, 2007), "Heavy Metal Thunder - The Movie" celebrates SAXON's 30th anniversary. It not only has contributions from members of SAXON, past and present, but also from the likes of Lars Ulrich (METALLICA); Lemmy, "Fast" Eddie Clarke, Phil Campbell, Mikkey Dee (MOTÖRHEAD); Harvey Goldsmith, Danko Jones, Doro Pesch and many, many others. It will also feature plenty of rare archive material and previously unseen concert footage, from the classic 1980s lineup to the brilliant St. George's Day show in 2008 and Wacken Open Air in 2009. A special limited edition of "Heavy Metal Thunder - The Movie" will contain a feature-length documentary, at least two never-before-seen concert films and plenty of revealing extra content.

I just cannot get into this Anvil thing that's going on. The documentary feels like such a hokey-ass ploy to rejuvenate their career, and all of a sudden the Livestrong bracelet wearing trendoids are talking about how AWESOME OMFG METALZ Anvil is and how much they dig their catalog. I call bullshit.

I don't begrudge Anvil their current fame. They put out some decent albums and kept up the fight all these years. I think what's happening for them is great. But...

Saxon has not only kept going all these years, they have put out some of the best metal albums ever made and have put out a string of great albums in the past decade that not only rivals the best of their output, it surpasses the best of almost any other band. Saxon deserves the spotlight as much as any band there is--and I want them to have a reason to tour America again!

How about spending a few days in Chicago? Day1: Wheels of Steel. Day 2: Strong Arm of the Law. Day 3: Denim and Leather. But don't make it an oldies show--the second half of each set should be all songs from Unleash the Beast forward. For a venue, I suggest The Vic Theater.

hell yeah, Biff!

those are stone-cold classics (my vote is for Strong Arm but you can't go wrong).

your new stuff is great but doing a classic album today would be amazing.

yes, yes, and yes.

keep kicking ass. glad to see your resurgent popularity; it's much deserved by one of the greatest metal bands ever.

cheers.

Saxon are one of my favorites. I'm happy for Anvil, too. Doesn't matter if the movie was a ploy. Good marketing.
