TAPROOT Signs With VICTORY RECORDS - Nov. 20, 2009
Michigan-based hard rock quartet TAPROOT has inked a deal with Victory Records. The band is currently working on material for a new album, tentatively due next spring/summer.

TAPROOT's latest CD, "Our Long Road Home", sold around 7,700 copies in the United States in its first week of release to enter The Billboard 200 chart at position No. 65. The follow-up to 2005's "Blue-Sky Research" was released through Velvet Hammer, the label founded by the management company of the same name (SYSTEM OF A DOWN, DEFTONES). Working with producer Tim Patalan (SPONGE, LOVEDRUG), the band penned more than fifty songs for the album, twelve of which were recorded in a converted barn just a few minutes down the road from vocalist/guitarist Stephen Richards' home.

After recording three albums for a major label, "Our Long Road Home" was TAPROOT's first as an indie band, and as Richards told it at the time, that suited them just fine. "Budget cuts and political shifts cost us our support system at the old place," he said. "When our A&R guy lost his job, we knew it was time for a change. A few years ago, that might've been a scary thing, but it's a brand-new world out there now for bands like us. We no longer have to rely on a big record company to make things happen and that's exciting. We made this record without the pressure of having to write four smash hit singles hanging over our heads and that was liberating. Of course," he laughed, "there are a few songs on the album that could do really well on radio."

TAPROOT's "Wherever I Stand" video can be viewed below. The clip was shot with director Jus10.

Same story here, man...I like a few select songs on the last two albums, but they just don't sound much like Taproot anymore.

I liked the first taproot record and haven't listened to any of their recent stuff, but that song right there has to be the worst song I ever heard.

I still remember Fred Durst cussing this band out on a answering machine in 2000. That's how this band got famous.

So now they are signed to a stereotypical metalcore recording company?

isn't a stereotypical metalcore label, they're a 'let's jump on every single possible bandwagon at once and screw our artists over as much as possible' label. depending on what bands you talk to, you'll hear stories worse than those that come from bands that were on Trustkill. On the same token Between the Buried and Me's been on Victory for a long while now and they don't have any complaints. Hatebreed released 2 albums with them and wouldn't piss on the owner to put him out if he was burning to death.

What's next, is Puya going to sign to Metal Blade?

for the longest time was a punk label ..long before "metalcore' so I don't know if I would characterize them as a metalcore.

Heard lots of mixed reviews from bands about the label - I didn't even know Taproot was still around but good luck to em

Actually Hatebeed only released one record on Victory, it was one of their fastest debut seller and probably one of their best sellers even so now you must be referring to an ep prior and no it wasn't released by Victory.

I don't blame Victory for their direction as who wants to hear these dime a dozen new hardcore bands coming out with the same exact style, or Deathcore which is now overshadowing metalcores popularity. They started off more hardcore/punk label with Warzone ( you used to see Raybeez name tribute on all their records, oddly enough I wonder if they would print it anymore), Earth Crisis, Hatebreed, and others.

Between the Buried and Me aren't really metalcore they get thrown it but at least they are good and Darkest Hour is always good and been on the label much much longer.

To add we know the direction Victory is going when they signed Otep. Why not try.

Ya the label does have mixed reviews won't mention but you can read up on them.

Lets be honest, Tony is in this for the $$$, and the wow, face facts how many bands that are good have left victory ?? .The deal is you start off thrilled and end up shoved aside. in the meantime all your support dries up and Tony signs new bands which when he gets tired of them he tells his staff not to help them anymore. why do you think victory goes thru help the way they do. EGO TONY
Hey Ceaser went down the same road until all who had supported him abandoned him, sound familar Tony ??? you better hope your job as a waiter is still there. The music biz is not what people think, so if you want to get screwed sign on with Tony, and you will. been there had that done to us.

I was really into their first album, I liked almost every song off of it. Since that, each album they've come out with, I only like half the albums.

X-Box: I hope it comes true. I'm tired of hearing so many bands being f**ked over by their labels.

Wow three bands. I knew tons of bands that did this this in 1982.
