CRADLE OF FILTH Working On 'Faster And Heavier' New Album - Nov. 22, 2009
Guitarist Paul Allender of British extreme metallers CRADLE OF FILTH has issued the following update:

"I'm about half way through writing the material [for the new CRADLE OF FILTH album] and it's turning out just the way I wanted it. I've mentioned to a few people that it's a lot faster and heavier than [2008's 'Godspeed On The Devil's Thunder']. Well, to be honest, the new material has been taken up quite a few gears."

"Godspeed On The Devil's Thunder" entered the German Media Control chart at position No. 37. The CD sold a little over 11,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 48 on The Billboard 200 chart.

"Godspeed On The Devil's Thunder" was the follow-up to "Thornography", which shifted nearly 13,000 copies in the U.S. the first week out to enter The Billboard chart at No. 66. This was roughly in line with the performance of its predecessor, "Nymphetamine", which premiered with almost 14,000 copies back in October 2004.

"Godspeed on the Devil's Thunder" was conceptual and is based on the well-documented, true-life fall from grace of a shadowy historical figure named Gilles de Rais, a wealthy French nobleman who was one of Joan of Arc's brothers-in-arms. He was best known, however, as a prolific serial killer who mixed prayers with his nightly murders as well as an aspiring alchemist. He was accused of a panoply of crimes, among them heresy, demonology and kidnapping. There's even an extreme fringe sect of historians who question de Rais' true status, with some convinced he was framed.

It`s a fairly typical metal photo...all metal bands try to look hard and menacing in their photos! I thought the last Cradle album was the fastest thing they`d done in ages so if they`re going further down that path it`s a good thing. I`d take Cradle over anything Rob Zombie has ever done without question.

"Damnation and a Day" and "Nymphetamine" are my favorites. After that, they just didn't do it for me anymore. The last one was just kind of a blur, nothing memorable that stood out.

I'm glad they put out those 2 albums though!!! Still a couple of my favorites that I play all the time!

I miss their "Dusk And Her Embrace", "Midian" and "Bitter Suites To Succubi" sound. But I suppose I would have grown bored of them eventually anyways. "Damnation And A Day" was a solid album, even though they embraced a slightly different sound.

Although he has good songs, I would not even put them in the same category. Zombie does not have a good solid album, just some good songs scattered between albums. Cradle has Midian, which is arguably one of the best Black Metal albums. Their latest effort was a great return to their old writing style, while Rob's new stuff sounds poppy and nothing like his old heavy stuff. Anyone here seen or heard Zombie live? Horrible, at least Dani (like it or hate it) sounds the same live as he does on album.

I like some stuff from this band...and other stuff I don't like

but they do have some really kick ass material

its funny, I think CRUELTY is good and all....but I don't think its their best at all.

Damnation And A Day is DEFINATLY my FAV. by them
its a perfect mix of everything they do....while sticking with HEAVY stuff the whole way through
Its a GREAT album

although I have enjoyed the last few albums and thought Godspeed on the Devils Thunder was a step in the right direction, I just wish that Cradle did not rely so much on Paul Allender as a song/riff writer. The riffs are on the whole tame and uninspired in comparison to a the guitar work on everything up until Midian. Perhaps they need to get Gian back in the band or at least another guitar player who can add something more exciting.

Now THAT was a great metal album, not just a great Cradle album.

They found the perfect combination of being serious about their music without taking themselves too seriously (metal photos notwithstanding).

Yeah Thornography didn't grab me with anything. As a result I didn't even check out the last one.

Hope this one takes a risks.

or heavier.
It just needs Paul Ryan to untangle the bag of snakes that is the C.O.F music like he did for Principle and Dusk.

Yeah, the last one was pretty good, but it sounded too safe. Here's to hoping the new one takes a few chances like 'Nymphetamine' did.

"Needs to recapture the Cradle sound; not only from Paul but from the keys section."

You mean his brother Ben Ryan on keys right?

I DON'T KNOW HOW I FEEL ABOUT THE MUSIC. I DO LIKE THE ELEMENTS OF THEIR MUSIC AND THE IDEA THEY ARE TRYING TO DO WITH THE "GOTHIC" SOUND, BUT I HAVE TO SAY THAT DANI IS WAY TO GAY NOW. HE LOOKS LIKE MY LITTLE SISTER. I BELIEVE HE IS PART OF WHAT IS WRONG WITH MUSIC TODAY. STOP TRYING TO LOOK COOL AND EVIL. EVERYBODY KNOWS THAT YOUR A BUNCH OF BLOODY WANKERS!!!!!

Faster sounds good to me. When you look at some of the tracks of "Dusk" and "Cruelty" such as "Funeral In Carpathia" (their best song ever!), "Haunted Shores", "Lustmord & Wargasm", etc...those songs were fast as hell at times.

Not so sure that 'Heavier' will be a good thing for this band though. I know it's metal, and it's supposed to be heavy and all, but it just usually doesn't work when a band that's normally farely melodic tries to be too heavy (Same idea as when a heavy band tries to be to melodic).

"Godspeed" was a small step in the right direction, but it still wasn't even remotely close to the atmosphere on "Vempire", "Dusk", "Cruelty", & "Midian".

Cruelty & Nymphetamine were fantastic, after that Thornography just killed it for me and honestly I think they should stop doing the whole female vocals for all their new singles thing (even though I think it's Roadrunner's idea just to make them sound more maintream, I'm guessing they want more money).

Every time "Frankenbald" is interviewed he trots out the same "faster/heavier" blurb, oblivious to the fact that the actual part of the puzzle that he misses here is "good song writing".

Gobstopper anyone?

Godspeed was a great album, with some flaws but also with great songs. They wrote some excellent, dark and fast songs(songs 8,9 and 10 were fantastic). So I hope they follow the same sound of these ones and if it is possible creating a more extreme material.

The photo is awful but it has no importance for me if the album is good.

The last record was the best thing these guys have done since Midian, although I like aspects of Damnation, and Nymphetimene, and Thornography, the production on the last one, along with stronger, more memorable material made Godspeed their best offering in a long time. Cruelty is a great record but the production is total crap. I'll take Death Magnetic and World Painted Blood and the last two darkthrone album's productions over Cruelty ANYTIME, EVER. Vempire and Dusk blow Cruelty away, in terms of material and production. I even like the Total Fucking Darkness demo production over Cruelty. why have the snare and kick both sound like tin cans? At least Lars was hitting garbage cans on St. Anger, which is also a better album than Cruely and the Beast.

These puffs always describe their new albums as:

"The new album is much faster and much heavier, and dare I say there are a few Iron Maiden-esque harmonies thrown in."

I swear to fucking satan if you check every interview for every album post-Midian, that's what they say.
