DÉTENTE Parts Ways With Singer, Announces Replacement - Nov. 22, 2009
Reunited California metallers DÉTENTE — featuring original members Dennis Butler (drums), Caleb Quinn (guitar) and Steve Hochheiser (bass) — have parted ways with vocalist Ann Boleyn (HELLION) and have replaced her with Tiina Teal(pictured below).

Having originally started out behind the kit as a drummer, Tiina has been singing and screaming for the last 10 years. With influences ranging from Jarboe to Nina Simone as well as STRAPPING YOUNG LAD's Devin Townsend, she has collaborated with various musicians and bands in Los Angeles and was named "Best Anti-War Band" with her metal group BURN THE EMPIRE.

Commented DÉTENTE: "We have already put down four of the nine new tracks with [Tiina] and can tell you that both old and new supporters of the band will be blown away by her and the new tracks.

"[The new DÉTENTE] 'Decline' is coming along very well, taking longer than expected but it will be worth it; we should have an official street date announcement mid-December."

"Decline" is being recorded with engineer Bill Metoyer, who has previously worked with SLAYER, CORROSION OF CONFORMITY, D.R.I. and SACRED REICH, among others.

The cover artwork for "Decline" can be viewed below. The cover was painted by Michael Leone, with additional graphic work performed by Christopher Leone.

Hochheiser previously stated about DÉTENTE's new material, "For those of you wondering what [the new songs] might sound like... well. it sounds like DÉTENTE. I did write 'Holy War', 'It's Your Fate', and 'Catalepsy' alone, as well as sharing 'Widow's Walk' and 'Losers' credits; and, of course, the vicious drumming of Dennis gave the punk edge to our music. The new material is probably closer to the demo days in approach, though; Dennis and I tend to lean in the hardcore direction, so we will keep it raw."

DÉTENTE's classic album "Recognize No Authority" was reissued in July 2007 via MVD Audio.

"Recognize No Authority" was a critically acclaimed recording that maintains a cult following to this day. It was also the launching ground for nu-metal metal producer Ross Robinson (KORN, SLIPKNOT, FEAR FACTORY, SOULFLY) who plays guitar on the album. The CD also marked the first full-length release by FEAR OF GOD's Dawn Crosby, who sadly passed away on December 15, 1996.

Ann Bowlingball has the New Renaissance "empire" to lord over anyhow - And no matter what singer they put up front, it's not Detente.

A great example of a band who meant nothing first time around trying to cash in on the thrash revival. Rubbish.

RIP Dawn Crosby, there will never be another.

Ann Boleyn is horrible. Plus she seems a bit looney.

Best of luck to the new lineup. Recognize No Authority is a classic.

Detente had a shot when they had Dawn Crosby. Then they fired her and for years they did all they could to screw up her career and talk shit about her! (They don't mention that in their interviews do they?! Yet they are happy to use her name and post her pictures to make money) Now they"parting ways" with Ann Boleyn?! How stupid is that! (And surprise, surprise...all the videos from the festivals where Ann Boleyn was singing and looking great are gone, and all you have are the shitty pictures and shitty videos like little shows with no sound check with bad lights and no makeup. You have lost a fan.

Before I comment, I'd lilke to know what happened? Ann Boleyn is so amazing I can not imagine that any band in their right mind would get rid of her. Maybe she quit to do something more on a bigger scale.

Ann Boleyn can certainly do a lot better than Detente. The musicianship was incredibly sloppy and not professional at all. The artwork for the new album looks like it was done by a 4th grader. The artwork and sound for the last reissue Cd was so disappoining that I returned it to Amazon and said it didn't woprk.

As a fan of Tiina Teal’s previous work, I can say that she and DÉTENTE is a perfect match. I have seen her perform live many times and I have heard DÉTENTE’s previous recordings and if you are a fan, you’re going to be thrilled with what will come from this group. Tiina’s natural style is so close to the original line up, that fans will have a hard time hating this current line up. I am looking forward to hearing the new cd and seeing the band live. Kudos to DÉTENTE for choosing her!
