TOM KEIFER On CINDERELLA: 'We've Never Really Gone Away' - Nov. 22, 2009
Metalzone.gr recently conducted an interview with vocalist Tom Keifer of CINDERELLA. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.

Metalzone.gr: Are CINDERELLA coming back?

Tom: We've never really gone away. We've been kind of on a break because I injured my voice a few years back and I've been trying to rehabilitate my vocal chords and train it back to where I can be able to perform a CINDERELLA show again. I though that I was there in the summer of 2008 for the tour for the States here, and we ended up having to cancel that tour because I re-injured my voice. Since then I've been working on trying to get it strong again, which I am glad to say it's very strong now and we're looking to be back out on the road in 2010.

Metalzone.gr: Are you preparing a solo album?

Tom: Yeah. I've been working on my solo record for probably about four years now. I've been working off and on on it in between tours with CINDERELLA and life in general. It's been a work in progress for about four years and I'm at a point where I'm just about finished with it now. I'm pretty happy with it. I've re-cut things, and remixed some songs and reworked things and rearranged things for a while now and I think I finally got it where I want it.

Metalzone.gr: What should we expect of it? How does it sound? How would you describe it?

Tom: It's a lot like CINDERELLA music because, being the main songwriter and the lead singer, and I did a lot of the guitar work for CINDERELLA, so that style comes through on this record. So it's definitely a hard rock record but it has dynamics to it, too, the way CINDERELLA records do, and there's a lot of very hard-driven songs in it but there are also ballads and some acoustic music on it too. It has the peaks and valleys and it takes you on a ride throughout the record so…

Glad they are doing stuff again. Always had respect for this band, and still love the Long Cold Winter album. They really were much more skilled and heavy than they sometimes appeared to be looks wise. Just listen to some of those early albums. kick ass.

Touring nearly every year doesn't cut it. When your last studio album was nearly 14 years ago...YOU WENT AWAY.

They are a great live band. Long Cold Winter still kicks ass today. I've met Eric and Jeff and they are both cool as hell. I just hope these guys don't do one of those lame ass packaged tours with LA Guns and Sebastian Bach. No thanks for me, if that's the case. I say 'play the clubs' and re-connect with your fans.

I really liked the hard rock vibe they had when they first came out. Then GnR came out and took it from them.

I'd be gloomy and pissed if I had to deal with partial paralysis in my vocal chords as a vocalist.

People mention them being dead, but he said during the interview:
"I don't want to do a record I can't tour behind." I don't blame Keifer for wanting it that way.

Tom Keifer completed his solo record in 2005 according to his website, but if he doesn't have the ability to tour for it, he won't release it.

What he said about record stores it so true. Walking around and meeting people or just being in an environment where you can check out the physical records it important. Online pricing is better and free in some cases. Can't compete with that.

"Long Cold Winter" is my fave Cinderella record. Too bad Tom has been suffering problems with his voice. I hope he will be able to rock soon.

Like someone else said, PLEASE not with some half-assed package tour. 1000-2500 capacity clubs...2+hours of music. It would be awesome. Cinderella has at least 15 songs that just kick ass. Real rock, not cock rock.

Too bad they don't record anything new... Despite their image, their awful drummer, they put out a great rock show... And a new CD would be great... I don't like these bands that keep touring and touring and don't release anything new.. what a shame..
