SLASH Performs Song From Upcoming Solo Album At 'LAYN Rocks!' Benefit; Video Available - Nov. 24, 2009
Slash (VELVET REVOLVER, GUNS N' ROSES) performed a song called "By The Sword" off his upcoming self-titled solo album at a benefit concert this past Sunday (November 22) at the Avalon in Hollywood, California. The show, billed as "Slash & Friends", was a fundraiser for the Los Angeles Youth Network (LAYN) is a non-profit organization providing services to homeless and runaway youth.

Fan-filmed video footage of the "By The Sword" performance can be viewed below.

The musicians featured in the video are as follows:

Travis Barker (BLINK-182) - Drums
Chris Chaney (JANE'S ADDICTION) - Bass
Slash (VELVET REVOLVER, GUNS N' ROSES) - Guitar
Dave Navarro (JANE'S ADDICTION) - Guitar
Andrew Stockdale (WOLFMOTHER) - Vocals

Also appearing at the show were Ozzy Osbourne, Chester Bennington (LINKIN PARK) and Billy Idol, among others.

Read a review of the concert at ARTISTdirect.

LAYN's mission is to help abused, neglected and homeless adolescents become self-sufficient. They do this by providing street outreach, food, emergency shelter and transitional living programs, with a professional, caring staff in a nurturing and safe environment.

"Slash" will see Roadrunner Records enter into a unique and innovative association with a U.K. media partner — the special-interest media group Future. In a brand new concept in record distribution the standard album release will be preceded by a "fan pack," in which the Roadrunner Records album will be bundled together with a highly collectable special issue of Future Publishing's Classic Rock magazine dedicated to Slash's career. This will be the first format of the album available anywhere in the world.

Live And Let Die.....BY THE SWORD. Excellent concept. To make it even more interesting i have a good feeling Slash is trying out Stockdale to be lead singer of Velvet Revolver nowadays. Hes got that perfect mixture of Plant, and Rose as one user said. Also seeing as how Corey Taylor didnt make the cut, i think this would be a great opportunity for Stockdale.

That was very, very good. I am pleasantly suprised. That dude from Wolfmother, Stockton, is awesome. He is like Axl and Plant merged together. I might have to pick up some Wolfmother stuff. You want to talk about a Velvet Revolver singer who might even equal Axl himself, this guy is it.
