ANTHRAX, EVERY TIME I DIE, FALL OUT BOY Members Join Forces In THE DAMNED THINGS? - Nov. 24, 2009
U.K.'s Rock Sound magazine reported earlier today (note: the article has since been removed from the web site) that members of FALL OUT BOY, EVERY TIME I DIE and ANTHRAX have teamed up to form the metal side-project THE DAMNED THINGS.

The band is said to include FALL OUT BOY guitarist Joe Trohman and drummer Andy Hurley; EVERY TIME I DIE vocalist Keith Buckley and ANTHRAX guitarists Scott Ian and Rob Caggiano. The group, whose lineup is rounded out by bassist David Karon, has reportedly written more than 15 songs and plans to hit the studio before Christmas to begin recording its debut album.

Trohman reportedly stated about THE DAMNED THINGS: "Scott's right hand is the reason I got into playing punk rock, hardcore and metal! Having Keith as part of the mix is insane, we all know he writes incredible lyrics but he is also a really good singer. That is showcased in EVERY TIME I DIE, but we want him to go more into singing than screaming on this project."

According to Rock Sound, Ian added: "We just started working on songs together and I really dug it. It just felt really good. From there we decided that obviously both of us are pretty busy in our day jobs but let's see what we can do with this. Even if it takes us five years to make a record, why not? It's super fun and it's something that we do totally take seriously because we love the music we've created. People think of FALL OUT BOY and they think of Pete Wentz and Patrick. These two guys, man, they're fucking hardcore dudes. Joe writes some amazing riffs. We have this song called 'A Great Reckoning' that, I swear to God, this song could be on any THIN LIZZY record. He fucking blew my mind with this song and I just can't wait for people to hear it."

I'll admit I've never listened to Fall Out Boy because of their name. Sounds like a fucking boy band. Are they anywhere close to being metal??

Just bring back SOD.

Andy's a cool guy. In the 90's he played in a hardcore band called Race Traitor.

it's not that surprising in a horrible round about sort of way. both of the dudes from fall out boy used to play in punk / hardcore bands and their singer did a guest spot on an every time i die album. it's kind of like AFI on the west coast touring with Bleeding Through, but this is so much more bizarre...

This is so far out, it's in.

I'm not going to sway in either direction with this, because it could turn out great.

I do have to chuckle at Scott's comment, "...if it takes 5 years, so what?"

... For obvious reasons.

I Agree with ALL of the Bullshit Anthrax has thrown at us recently you'd think Scott would want to buckle down, finish "Worship Music" and book a tour to get Anthrax back on the right Track, whether John, Joey or some other dick singing, it doesn't matter. But to go off and do something like this? It boggles the mind.

Anthrax members definitely know how to keep people's heads spinning! WTF? Actually I'm excited to hear this now. If it sounds anything like Thin Lizzy, I'm in!! This will probably be much bigger than Anthrax in the long run but I really can't wait to hear the new Thrax with Bush singing! 2010 could be a great year for heavy music. BTW, the new Everytime I Die record is fucking brilliant too.
