SOULFLY Recording SEPULTURA, EXCEL Covers As Possible B-Sides/Bonus Tracks - Nov. 24, 2009
SOULFLY entered Edge Of The Earth studios in Hollywood, California on November 6 with producer Logan Mader (MACHINE HEAD, DIVINE HERESY, CAVALERA CONSPIRACY, GOJIRA, DEVILDRIVER) to begin recording its new album, tentatively titled "Omen", for an early 2010 release.

The second video update from the studio can be viewed below (courtesy of MetalInjection.net)

In a recent interview, SOULFLY mainman Max Cavalera stated about the songwriting process for the band's next album, "We're thinking about making the songs a little shorter, so if you can imagine maybe a little bit like MINOR THREAT mixed with [SLAYER's] 'Reign In Blood' mixed with SOULFLY, with still some world music, but much smaller, and the songs not so long — shorter. It'll be more aggressive than 'Conquer' [album] even, because it'll be shorter — it'll be like when SLAYER did 'Reign In Blood', [that] kind of thing."

Working songtitles set to appear on the follow-up to last year's "Conquer" include:

* Bloodbath And Beyond
* Soulfly VII
* Off With Their Heads
* Omen
* Rise Of The Fallen
* Great Depression
* Apocalyptic Clash
* Vulture Culture
* Lethal Injection
* 7 Daggerz

Bonus / B-side tracks:

* Four Sticks (LED ZEPPELIN cover)
* Refuse/Resist (SEPULTURA cover; feat. Max's son Zyon on drums)
* Your Life, My Life (EXCEL cover; feat. Max's son Igor on drums)

"Conquer" sold around 8,400 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 66 on The Billboard 200 chart. This number is in line with the opening tally of the CD's predecessor, "Dark Ages", which shifted a little more than 8,000 copies during its first week of release in October 2005 to enter the chart at No. 155.

I love how you are too stupid to read "Working song titles"... which means that it could be a song that has an "Arise" vibe to it or not... most bands have silly or odd song titles when they have yet to write all the lyrics or finish songs.

How old are the sons? This would help me form an opinion on if I believe they sound any good or not.

Chaos A.D was released in '93, Zyon's heart beat was recorded as the intro to refuse/resist so that makes him about 16 years old and with a few tips from his uncle I'm sure he can pull it off. I'm more of a Sepultura fan than Soulfly but I'm still interested hearing this though it does seem that Max is regurgitating his song titles and lyrics.

Really liked "Conquer" and not much else from Soulfly.

Looking forward to this, although Max keeps saying this stuff about RIB and that's just raising expectations way too high if you ask me.

Excel.... proper old skool.

Not a big Soulfly fan, but, if they can manage to create a record that is a mixture of Minor Threat meets Reign in Blood than sign me up.

I don´t believe much in this RiB-meets Agnostic Front hype or anything of the sort, it usually leads to disappointment. I´ll consider the album as it is, not making any comparison at all.

Thanks for the tip cocksucker. I know exactly what "working titles" mean since I've been playing guitar longer than you've probably been alive. It doesn't change the fact that Max is ripping off his old band that made him famous in the first place. The band that HE quit. Now go back to trolling somewhere else, douche nozzle.
