SAMMY HAGAR Opens Cabo Wabo Cantina On Las Vegas Strip - Nov. 25, 2009
Sammy Hagar has opened his hard-rockin' dining and nightlife experience, Cabo Wabo Cantina, on the Las Vegas Strip. The two-level, 15,000-square-foot Cantina brings the best of Cabo San Lucas to Vegas, with its prime location at the Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino. Cabo Wabo combines Hagar's signature blend of killer margaritas, flavorful Mexican food and rock 'n' roll style, where it is never uncommon to catch the Red Rocker grabbing a bite to eat or jammin' out a live set on stage.

To celebrate Sammy Hagar-style, the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer will host the official Cabo Wabo Cantina grand opening bash on Friday, December 4. The event kicks off with a red carpet at 6:30 p.m. and a live performance by SAMMY HAGAR AND THE WABORITAS at 9 p.m. A limited number of complimentary tickets will be given out at Cabo Wabo Cantina in Las Vegas on December 4, beginning at 10:30 a.m. The concert will also be broadcast live on Miracle Mile Shops' 5,000-square-foot LED screen that faces the Strip.

"I'm ecstatic to introduce Las Vegas to the Cabo Wabo lifestyle," said Cabo Wabo founder Sammy Hagar. "The cantina's fun-loving, fiesta atmosphere brings rock 'n' roll right to the heart of Las Vegas. We are going to rock the Strip!"

Cabo Wabo's vibrant outdoor patio offers prime views of the Las Vegas Strip, combining Cabo San Lucas' laid-back, beach-town vibe with the excitement of Vegas. The savory menu blends Tex Mex cuisine with coastal Mexican fare, specializing in fajita selections. The cocktail menu highlights Hagar's favorite spirit, tequila, featuring specialty margaritas and cocktails.

Guests will find the Cabo Wabo retail store packed with world-famous logo merchandise and a Daiquiri Bar serving frozen cocktails in a variety of Cabo Wabo souvenir cups, including Sammy's signature 100-ounce guitar cup that also plays five different Hagar tunes.

Cabo Wabo Cantina at Miracle Mile Shops is the flagship U.S. location for the legendary restaurant. The original opened in Cabo San Lucas in 1990, transforming the sleepy Mexican town into a major tourism destination, becoming the inspiration for one of the most recognizable tequila brands, Cabo Wabo Tequila.

The guy has been a rock star forever, has a huge catalog of hits and great songs people love to hear, is now rich beyond his wildest dreams, lives on a beach, has jammed with (and been in bands with) many of the greats, still has his voice, still has his hair, still has a hot wife, can still hold his liquor, has been inducted into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame, won Grammys, just had a hit record out as recently as this year and is still a cool, down-to-earth kind of guy who doesn't have to be a douche bag to the people around him to make himself feel good.

Bash the guy all you want, but it's all true. In this game of life, Sammy won.

You mean the one where they pay Sammy a shitload of money to use the name, he plays a couple shows, and someone else runs the place while he racks in the dough. Then if it all goes to shit he just says "It's got nothing to do with me".

But he rode 'David Lee Roth Van Halen' coattails right in to the Hall of Fame.

"the guy has been a rock star forever." So? Longevity has nothing to do with quality. Has he managed to squeeze out a handful of descent songs in his career? Sure. But the implication that he has this huge back catalog of hit after hit is absurd.

"great songs people love to hear." Yes, surely Three Lock Box & Eagles Fly are some of the finest moments in the annals of rock music.

"doesn't have to be a douche bag..." I actually agree with this 100%. Mr. Hagar seems like a nice guy.

"in the game of life, Sammy won." Can't argue with this either. He's got mad bank, has been very fortunate musically and professionally, and seems very humble to have experienced it.

Doesn't mean his music is great though.

"Another bar / restaurant on the strip. Geesh they needed tat bad!"

Your right and too stupid to know it. It's Vegas. What do you think people do in Vegas, attend church? Also, keep in mind that he is opening a business on the strip when others are struggling and closing. Sure, he has money but that does not mean he should put it at risk. But he is.

"You mean the one where they pay Sammy a shitload of money to use the name, he plays a couple shows, and someone else runs the place while he racks in the dough."

Sounds good to me! In your dreams.

"chickenfoot suck"

Talented musicians, fun music. You don't have to like it, but sucks? I don't think so.

"Doesn't mean his music is great though."

Again, it sort of does. See, when you can sell rock and roll for 30+ years and you are still rocking at 60 at a decent pace, you at least have to respect it. His music has always been excellent. At the root of his financial success is his music. Enough like it over the years to buy it. I have enjoyed a few songs over the year from him myself, but I think Chickenfoot was the first Sammy album I bought. So, in case you think I am a rabid Sammy fan, I hated most of the Van Halen years.

bash the guy all you want but don't ever mention roth in the same breath as him!rode his coattails?all he did was replace the frontman of one the best bands in the world and made them better and more popular.he was able to do that becasue he can do something roth can't do and that is sing!eddie wrote the music so he is the one responsible for the change in the bands style not Sammy.he was able to write songs that reqired the ability to more than just scream.so he sang ballads big deal1 or 2 on records that rocked otherwise. as for his solo songs he has more that 1 or 2 songs that you mention which is still 2 more than roth has.ask anyone other than roth to name any of his songs and all you will hear are the vh songs.nobody remembers his solo shit!name the last time you listened to his solo stuff?you can't honestly say only yest. and if you do I feel sorry for you. you can hear Sammy anytime you turn on the radio so he deserves all that he has got including the haf.

I'd say the Sam fans may be as loyal as KiSS fans, they can really put a shine on a pile of shit. (in speaking of his music).

I'll give you this, he seems like a straight forward, fun guy. Fun to have a few beers/shot of Tequila with...and he definitely "won" when it comes to the real life game of Monopoly. That Tequila company broke the bank....he lives the live. Has his hair, for 61, looks fantastic. I envy his lifestyle, his attitude. Cheers on that.

Musically, one of rock's goofiest, lamest acts in Rock History. one of rock's luckiest guy to get the VH gig. Not sure if EVH was at the end of his rope, but that Version of VH, for 75% of it(I'm being kind) was pop fluff. (I will give him/them some decent songs onOU812 and F.U.C.K)....

let's be real, had he not got that gig, his musical career was on its way to be a 80's footnote, he'd be compared to .38 Special, Brian Adams, Kenny Loggins(another soundtrack rocker), Billy Squier, Richard Marx, Rick Springfield. Lame 80's faux MTV rock. Seriously. "Ill fall in Love again", "I can't drive 55"(novelty song with just the goofiest Lyrics), one way to rock(and that aint it!). Stands right up next to "Rockin' into the Night" & "Still Rockin' america". Next.

Then the VH years, talk about taking a hard edged band & making them a soft rock act. Dreams(we'll get higher & higher, yeah!!!), Love walks in, Love, love, Feels so good, What about love(oh, different band, but same thing), when its love, why can't this be LOVE?...you get the picture.

Its a fun debate, if you like him, more power to you. I'd love to hear the other bands you are into. I'd certainly rather have a beer with him than EVH or DLR, but I'd talk Led Zep with him, not his solo career....good guy though, lots of energy. Lots of $$!

I agree 100%, but let's face it: he DOES have a pretty great voice, and that's why EVH hired him.

I am not a fan of the Van Hagar years aside from a few songs here and there, but they were wildly successful commercially during that period, which is, I think, all they were interested in based on the style of music they put out.

But yeah, Hagar should be bowing down before a shrine built in honor of EVH to start each day...no matter what went down between those two, the fact remains that pretty much everything Hagar has in his life right not is because EVH plucked him from the ash heap of '80s has-beens.

right!...I guess he has "range"(much more than Dave), but he has one of those annoying voices, like Cherone does too...though Van Hagar has a few good songs. At one point I liked it more, but it didn't hold up over time for me. (sort of like late 80s ASmith)...both more worried about commercial success.

I'm just having a little fun with the Sam fans, as mentioned, there are some things I respect about him, mostly all non musical...and I think he(and Anthony) got the shaft from EVH. Sam probably brings more to the table live than DLR now, in 2009. He brings lots of energy, but then again, you'd have to sit through Right now, Dreams, Love walks in, how do I know when its love, all the BS, I'll take a watered down tired DLR I guess.

Sam fans have got to be real though, had EVH not grabbed him, he was on his way out. He'd be synonomous with the 80s, like Billy Squier. Certainly no R&R HOF. Nor would have VH been in on the strength(or weakness) of Van Hagar. There, I said it!

I'd say my "bashing" isn't typical, because I give many positives about the man. I did state there were some decent Van Hagar songs("don't tell me what love can do" wouldn't be one), but lots of layers of shit to get to the good. Its also leagues worse than the previous incarnation of the band, so it was quite a let down. Had it started with Van Hagar, I'd compare it to Aerosmith from 1987 on, some ok moments, but nothing near the classic. Far too much fluff surrounding a few nuggets. (and you mention non radio stuff, dig deeper, like Mine all Mine, Source of Infection(hot for teacher part II), Pleasure Dome, the song 5150,etc).

I think we'll have to agree to disagree if you champion bands/artist like Night Ranger, .38 Special, Kenny Loggins, Rick Springfield, Richard Marx. If that's your cup of tea, so be it...but I can see that as rockin' in any decade, in any shape or form. If that is "rockin" music, what ISN"T? Is "we built this city" rockin' to you. or "Workin' for the weekend"? Where do you stand on LoverBoy? I'm getting a picture where you're coming from, in your leg warmers, fist pumping to "eye of the tiger"...again, if that's your thing, its all opinion, there's no right or wrong, so stand strong!

typical you like loverboy so you must like we built this city.like with any decade there good and bad.so because you don't like the melodic bands or songs from that era it all sucks right?that would also be the era that gave us the priest we all know and love, also don't forget it also gave us maiden and metallica plus numerous other heavy bands but apperantly that does not matter to you.I grew up in the 70's so I think I know a little about musicbut you probaly don't like any of that music either.guess elp was to sophisticated for you.still waiting for your list of great bands that are far superior to mine.

one more thing how can you say you don't bash Sammy when you trash his music all the time?I like the guy but not his music is about the dumbest thing you can say.like I said I would love to see you sit down and have a beer with him and tell him that his music and his current band suck.not to see you get your ass kicked but to see you tell a musician who has been around as long as he has and sold as many records as he has that he sucks.that would be to funny to see his reaction, like when asks to hear the songs you have written.

#1, I don't think my tastes are superior. I was having a little fun with the loverboy comparison, but you did mention the bands I was comparing Sam to, you liked as well. I can't say I like those bands, the Nightrangers, etc. Im' not trying to be a dick...on the otherhand, I think you are doing a disservice to bands that were about melody that were real good. #1 in that category I'd have to say are the Beatles, who are a band I love(there's one). In the hard rock category, early VH is another band that incorporated Melody. I don't even think because its a ballad, it necessarily means its got a great melody, like Dreams. I find that hocky, cliche. But that is me.

I didn't say all the 80's sucked, but the Soundtrack rock of that era is pretty dismal. The Glen Frey's, Phil Collins, Sam, Kenny Loggins. That is what I'm comparing Sammy to. Not the better acts of the era. Though in my opinion, in hind sight, the 80's are a bit light musically, when comparing to past decades(I too grew up in the 70's, a kid but was listening to music). The musical trends of the 80's are bad, phony drum sounds(VH was snakebitten by that in the VanHagar years), the over produced sounds, too much reverb, all the hairmetal crap...but maybe you feel different.

Laggerlug, you state "Id love to see you tell sammy you don't like his music", you state that like you don't have ANY negative opinions on any rock musician? come on. Because I haven't written songs I should not have an opinion. I'm sure there are plenty of bands you dislike. So that line of argument is weak. Less of course, you are really Kip Winger.
