ROB ZOMBIE Wants To Break Out Of Horror With Next Movie - Nov. 25, 2009
According to The Pulse of Radio, Rob Zombie told the Chicago Tribune on Tuesday (November 24) that he wants his next film as a writer/director to be outside the horror genre. Zombie, who has made four horror movies since 2003, said, "If you go down that road too far, it's hard to break out of it. I don't want to get stuck with anything. I want the freedom to do what I want to do." Zombie's last film, "Halloween II", was released in late August to mostly horrible reviews and lukewarm box office.

Zombie recently said on a conference call with reporters that the movie he hopes to do next might surprise people. "The movies I've made up to this point have been pretty dark and pretty much in that world because those are the opportunities that were presented," he said. "But I'm also working on something now that is not in that world at all. You know, the people that put up the money for these things know that if I stick to that sort of thing, it's easily more profitable. So it's a much bigger challenge to break out of it. But if everything goes according to plan, and the next movie that I want to make is the next movie, people are gonna be shocked as to what it is."

Zombie has been planning to make an action film called "Tyrannosaurus Rex", and has also been named to write and direct a remake of "The Blob", but there's no indication yet of when or if either project will get off the ground.

He was approached to direct 2008's "Punisher: War Zone" but passed. His other films include "House Of 1000 Corpses", "The Devil's Rejects" and "Halloween".

Zombie releases a new solo album, "Hellbilly Deluxe 2", on February 2. He is currently on the road and stops on Wednesday night (November 25) in Columbus, Ohio.

Like remake a classic...oh wait, my bad.
I liked House of 1000 Corpses and the Devils Rejects. I thought His Halloween was boring. I have not seen #2 yet. However Halloween 2 the original was crap, so I think he could not make that one any worse. Anyone care to make me eat my words?

I liked the original Halloween 2 bootymilk. Secluded setting, great killings anad naked tits too. I haven't seen the new Halloween 2 yet but there was one thing Rob Zombie said in this excerpt that confused me. He said he wanted to "break free" from horror movies. From what I've seen and this is giving him the benefit of the doubt with Halloween 2, he's only made 2 horror films, both Halloweens. Devil's Rejects and House Of 1000 Corpses are definitely NOT horror. if those movies are considered horror movies, films like Cape Fear and Silence Of The Lambs should be considered horror. And stop putting your wife in your movies. Nobody wants to see an actress that works strictly because she's married to the director.

For some reason that actually struck me as an awesome idea. Maybe I've not had enough coffee or too many drugs but right now I'd definitely watch that.

Totally agree on the original "Halloween 2" - I might even like it better than the original.

Just revisited the first two original films this past Halloween and was so impressed all over again. Then I caved in and finally watched Zombie's 'Halloween' and I was furious.

Some people criticized Carpenter for tarnishing the legacy with 'Halloween 3 Season of the Witch' (which I actually liked) but somehow this assclown gets a free pass with his horrible remake!

He SHOULD remake Kiss Meets the Phantom. There's no way to possibly butcher that movie more than its original incarnation. But he can make it with Mini-Kiss.

The first Halloween is one of my all-time favorites. I did not care much for II, and have not seen any of the others. I actually liked his take on the first one. I have yet to see his version of the second one. Should I spend 90 minutes on it, or would those be 90 minutes I could never get back?

If he branched out, it would be cool I think. I personally enjoyed his take on the films he remade and I loved his two originals. Let me be clear though, he WILL NEVER take the place of the original first two Halloween movies. His take on them is just what it is, HIS TAKE. If you don't like them, you still have Wes Craven's originals.

Agreed Ambule. (rec) and/or Quarantine are bad ass movies. As well as, High Tension or "Haunte Tension" as it was in France. Great gore/horror flicks there. Zombie really could have gone a bit darker on his two originals when comparing them to these two greats. It is a bit on the "light" side for my taste. I like them as gory as you can get em. Genius killings rule(on film) of course! I say go DARKER and GORIER Rob!

It doesn't seem to be getting off the ground .... get Zombie on board. He "gets" rock n roll. It would be gritty and dirty and fucking funny (El Superbeasto makes laugh) ... he's perfect for it. Drug fueled parties, orgies, car cashes, overdoses, snorting ants with Ozzy, triping out, rocking out, freaking out .... Fuck Yeah !!

... and the Kiss Meets Phantom remake with Mini Kiss is pretty fuckin funny guys
