Ex-MEGADETH Bassist ELLEFSON Discusses NORTHERN LIGHT ORCHESTRA Project - Nov. 25, 2009
Rock My Monkey recently conducted an interview with former MEGADETH and current F5/HAIL! bassist David Ellefson. During this chat, Ellefson discussed his involvement in the new Christmas project NORTHERN LIGHT ORCHESTRA, among other topics.

The interview is now available for streaming using the audio player below.

Ellefson performed with NORTHERN LIGHT ORCHESTRA in Phoenix, Arizona on April 17, 2009 at the Orpheum Theatre. The show was filmed for a DVD, entitled "The Spirit Of Christmas". Ellefson also played bass on the NORTHERN LIGHT ORCHESTRA album, which was released in on VSR/EMI.

Commented Ellefson: "Musically, NORTHERN LIGHT ORCHESTRA has some killer shredding combined with technical and theatrical arrangements ala QUEEN meets 'Jesus Christ Superstar'. Definitely something outside the box and is a lot of fun, and challenging at the same time."

According to the project's bio, NORTHERN LIGHT ORCHESTRA highlights majestic, orchestrated rock music featuring soaring vocals, incredible guitar solos worthy of true "guitar hero" status, and pounding rhythms sure to impress and invigorate the baby boomer generation that grew up on what is today classic rock!

Combined with the talents of executive producer and longtime record mogul Russ Regan, (responsible for over 800 million record sales with such artists as Neil Diamond, Elton John, and Barry White as well as soundtracks such as "Flashdance" and "Jesus Christ Superstar"), NLO is slated to become a seasonal live performance and recording entity that provides the very best in entertainment!

The brainchild of remix keyboardist/writer Brian Stewart (BACKSTREET BOYS, ROBERT PLANT, HALL & OATES, POE) and produced by industry veteran Ken Mary (HOUSE OF LORDS, TRIK TURNER, ALICE COOPER, BEACH BOYS), NLO is designed to create a total musical experience combining the powerful drama of Webber and Rice's "Jesus Christ Superstar" with the emotionally moving musical styles of ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA, YES, and KANSAS.

Vocalists and musicians appearing on NLO have been responsible for the sale of over 200 million albums worldwide and include members and former members of household names such as the BEACH BOYS, SLY AND THE FAMILY STONE, ALICE COOPER, SURVIVOR, STEELY DAN, FIREHOUSE, MEGADETH, SISTER SLEDGE, QUIET RIOT, VANILLA FUDGE, WINGER, BOB CARLISLE, GUNS N' ROSES, GRAND FUNK RAILROAD, KISS, HOUSE OF LORDS, and WHITESNAKE, just to name a few.

Live performances highlight a spectacular light and video presentation, theatrical movements, as well as incredible musicianship all assembled to tell the story of the birth of Jesus Christ over two thousand years ago.

"Ex-Megadeth bassist Dave Ellefson" may actually be worse than Mustaine saying "My last band" all the time.

If they had left the word "orchestra" out of the name, that might have helped their credibility a bit, but theres no way they can say this isnt a cash grab on the tails of TSO. Junior should be ashamed of himself.

Was it Ellefson. As Megadeth goes out blazing with the disc and tour, you are out as a hired hand throwing anything to the wall and hoping it sticks (F5???) Cover band? Now this? whatever..

Hopefully it will be ok, but this orchestration crap is getting a bit stale. As well as the holiday themed shit. People will see right through this as a TSO rip so I doubt it will do much.

Seems a decent guy, but bad bad choice leaving Megadeth..

Cant forget all those 'former' band members that will be playing. Sold 200 million albums worldwide? It wont be Paul from Kiss or Slash from Guns n Roses.. More like Bruce Kulick from Kiss and Izzy Stradlin from Guns. Love how that have to put that slant on shit.
They should release a CD on Cleopatra records.

Funny that 80% of the guests are struggling and mostly doing tribute CD's.

Sorry, just felt like venting on that.

factory - Izzy had WAY more to do with Guns' success than Slash did. Any LA guitarist would have been able to fit that spot, Izzy was the genius behind the songwriting.

That guy (Elefson) is pretty mediocre talent. He hasn't been able to do anything remotely interesting since he was kicked out of Megadeth.

COMMENT | They forgot the "DAVE" in the headline !!!!!!!!
