FILTER Mainman Issues New Album Update - Nov. 25, 2009
FILTER is currently is in the studio recording material for its next album, to be released in 2010. Mainman Richard Patrick states, "It's getting close now. We're having a blast! The album is almost done being written.

"I know I said this was going to be a return to 'Short Bus', and it is, as well as a return to 'Title of Record' and 'The Amalgamut'.

"I might put a song (working title 'Drugboy') as the lead track because it's the return of heavy FILTER that we all need and want. It sounds like 'Columind'. Then there are a few songs reminiscent of 'Short Bus' that I think would go next.

"I asked [the fans'] thoughts and [they] told me what I needed to hear.

"[Producer] Bob [Marlette] and I are really concerned with making sure every song connects with [the fans] and counts. I've really taken [the fans] into consideration on this."

FILTER recently returned to the airwaves with its brand new single, "Fades Like A Photograph", which hit rock radio on October 30. The track was also featured in the action sci-fi thriller movie and accompanying soundtrack, "2012", starring John Cusack, both of which were released November 10. "Fades Like A Photograph" marked the first new music from the band since the 2008 release of "Anthems for the Damned".

FILTER is no stranger to movie soundtracks. Their music has been featured on soundtracks such as "Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight", "Cable Guy", "Crow: City of Angels", "Songs in the Key of X: Music Inspired by 'The X-Files'", "Spawn: The Album"; "X-Files Original Soundtrack"; "Crow: Salvation" and "Little Nicky".

"I've really taken the fans into consideration" = cashing in on what the fans want to hear instead of making what an artist wants to make...

robert patrick > richard patrick.

First of all, bands that don't take their fans into consideration are idiots. (i.e. metallica, who haven't made a good record in over 15 yeas) Also, how the hell do you know that they didn't want to make it? Shirt bus and the Amalgamut were amazing records.

Cheap Vodka, you make a valid point. i DON'T know what exact record richard patrick wants to make. i intended to ask him when he was supposed to come to my house for thanksgiving tommorow, but he declined because he was busy watching all the star wars movies and attacking a lifesize cut out of trent reznor with his authentic light saber replica.

look it up.

There's no hope for you as a Filter fan if you didn't enjoy Title of Record or The Amalgamut. Seriously. If you don't like those, then you are not a Filter fan. Both those records are excellent.

Columind was a terrible song. Making comparisons to that is not a good sign.

I prefer Filter with a nice balance between heavy and mellow songs. The only way is the wrong way is probably my favorite Filter song.

@Ace96 - it has a heavy sound to it, that's the comparison he's making.

@KaptainSlappy well said.

in my opinion short bus and title of record were excellent. Amalgamut good, but nothing off the last record coerced me into buying it, having not given it a real listen i cannot comment but rarely does a band passed it's prime improve from record to record, just the way it is. I don't expect Filter to be any different.

Sir Richard has a certain lifestyle he is used too. Unfortunately an artist dies when he tries to mimic/recreate the style/songs from his youth once modern day sales have fallen off and funds are now in short supply.

The last record was fairly mellow. The two tracks co-written by John5 are probably the highlights. Those two rocked live when I last saw Filter. The record, as a whole, was a bit disappointing given the amount of time since The Amalgamut. Hope for good things from this new one. Patrick is a great artist.

The first 2 records are incredible to me, the Amalgamut has some great songs on it. The last album has some great tracks buried amongst all the mellow tracks (most of which I enjoyed), however the sequencing of that record was just not good IMO. I think this new record will be a return to form, it seems like Richard is in more control this time and has hired a producer that knows how to work with heavier artists. No Josh Abraham top 40 polishing this time around, and reuniting with John 5 both sound promising. Plus the new backing band is far and away more talented than those from before (ie Geno, Frank, and Steve). Bring it on!
