DAVE MUSTAINE: 'There Is No Problem' Between Me And METALLICA - Nov. 25, 2009
Hector Saldaña of San Antonio Express-News recently conducted an interview with MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine. A few excerpts from the chat follow below.

On "Endgame" tour preparations:

"I'm pretty well ready to do my job. I just make sure I have my workout gear and my personal stuff together, and make sure I have what I need on stage. It's a matter of, 'How dedicated am I?' Is this a joke? Is this a hobby? When it's time to go, I'm ready."

On MEGADETH's new album, "Endgame":

"When you have a record like ['Endgame'] and you look at the sales and they just aren't there, you start to take that personally. I gotta tell you, it's been so frustrating for us the last few years with the way things are going in the music industry. I remember back when people would say something and then keep their word. I remember back when people that worked at radio actually knew what working at radio meant."

On being credited alongside SLAYER, ANTHRAX and METALLICA with creating and perfecting thrash metal:

"I look at my career and I know what I've accomplished. Between my career with MEGADETH and the songs I've written and sold with METALLICA, I've sold more than 60 million records around the world. I'm currently rated as a top guitar player, I'm really inspired and this is one of the greatest periods of my life."

On new MEGADETH guitarist Chris Broderick, formerly of JAG PANZER, who joins journeyman bassist James Lomenzo and drummer Shawn Drover:

"The relationship with Chris is really unique because he's such an incredible talent and, fortunately for me, he's either really humble or he's either really unaware of how great he really is."

On his Internet radio station, Megadeth Radio, available at www.iheartradio.com:

"I'm currently going through the playlist which is about 2,000 to 3,000 songs, and I'm adding stuff as we go along. I want the world to know that it's bull(crap) what everybody keeps saying about me having a problem with METALLICA. There is no problem, and to prove this, I put them on my radio show. So, we'll see how much longer this nonsense keeps going. It'll go on forever, I imagine, but hopefully there will be a new wave of young metal fans that go, 'You know what? You guys that believe that (crap), you go ahead and believe it, but we're smarter than that.'"

Its probably a running gag between Mustaine and Metallica at this point. If not, Metallica are laughing their asses off that he's still stuck on shit that happened almost thirty years ago.

Metallica and Megadeth should just co-headline together and bury the hatchet once and for all, especially if what Mustaine keeps reiterating is true.

Second, according to the movie SKOM, Megadeth sold 15 million records worldwide, and according to RIAA Kill em All and Ride the Lighting sold not more them 15 million records worldwide.

whoa..... say what you will about your musical taste for Load (1996), ReLoad (1997), and Garage Inc (1998), but they were very well produced albums. The production issues arose with St. Anger and sadly into Death Magnetic. While I feel out of the new Slayer, Megadeth, and Metallica albums that Death Magnetic wins, Endgame has superior production to both.

In the end of the day the whole Megadeth/Metallica thing doesn't matter to me at all. They've both put out amazing albums and left an imprint on the genre that can not be denied. Much respect and love to both.

The main reason for poor sales: the CD package is nothing special, nowadays you need to invest in that so people can get interested in buying physical stuff. I am sure 90% of "Endgame" is downloaded through torrents. So, Dava, pls stop whining.

As for people putting down Broderick, here's the thing

-you can't do what he does
-you can't write what he's written
-you don't have the ear for tone that he has
-you don't have the talent he has

simply put, you'll never measure up to a guy who has worked as hard as he does so you tear him down because he's in Megadeth and thats just what you people do.

Face it, nobody cares about YOUR band. Nobody cares about YOUR crap. You post here tearing down Megadeth in a desperate attempt to matter. You don't.

Dave's music has sold over 60 million records. Thats just a fact. Whether it be Metallica or Megadeth...or MD45 or whatever, it's a fact. Don't try to take away from what he's accomplished because it's more than you ever will. You don't have to like Megadeth but don't try to ruin it for everyone else.

Plus, again...guys, his family reads this! If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it at all.

The biggest most devoted base in the metal community is still METALLICA fans and most I talk to see no reason to spend money on an album made by a guy who shits on their love every chance he gets. And more importantly, whose fans shit on them and their favorite band. METALLICA fans would rather spend their money on bands who pay their respects to the band that created thrash metal (and had written most of those songs WITHOUT Dave).

I don`t get one thing, and it`s not because I am stupid. People who don`t like Dave, and those who do; you read what Dave has to say, do not like it, and spend time writing "SHUT UP DAVE, blablablabla, etc" like that`s gonna matter to Dave or anybody else.
He is not a fucking politician who leaves his brain at home every time he talks, like some we know; we don`t know what happens in his life every day. We all have good and bad days, some choose to talk about it, and some are dumb enough to keep quiet.
Dave`s gone through a tough divorce; he has troubles with a stupid record company who don`t give a shit about anything but economics, and he has to spend time doing their job; selling his records, while he does what he wants: play for his fans.. Fun? Hardly think so. Frustrating? Very.
And you Metallica fans (being one myself):
Relax! You don`t own the fucking band! If James & co. wants to respond, they will, they don`t need retards expressing their own dumb opinions on the internet.
I don`t like everything Dave says, and yes; sometimes he contradicts himself. But then again, who doesn`t? Are you so goddamn perfect? O.k. Leave your adress, and I`ll send you a fucking medal!
He`s a human being like the rest of us, not a god or a saint. If you spray shit for fun, do it at home, so you and your lame ass friend can have a laugh.
But I guess it`s easy to hide behind some weird username, and spray shit everywhere. Next time leave your name and number, so Dave can talk to you. No? Did`nt think so. My name is Andrè Jonassen and I live in Norway, and I don`t crawl around the internet being an asswipe. Try it:

Umm, actually it's precisely because I DO that I put him down. If he was Marty Friedman, I'd keep my mouth shut. But, as a player who fraternises with a lot of session guys/fusion players etc. etc. believe me I know DOZENS of Brodericks. Really, what he does is nothing special - and as for 'ear', the guy's ear is not that good, he often bends and vibs way out. That said, his work on Endgame was actually pretty decent, but he's NOTHING on Poland, Young and Friedman. A total amateur by comparison. Beats Al Shitrelli I guess...

"I can out play him"
"I was doing the drumming to that album when I was 12"
"I know dozens of guys as good as him, including me"

Blah blah blah.

It's like each player in each band has to be the best in the world at what he/she does.

It's funny how these posters bitch about the musicians on the albums, but don't tell any of us what THEIR contributions to Metal have been. Oh, wait I can tell you: NONE.

For the person who said Endgame wasn't selling because of torrents and illegal downloading...all of that shit was around 2 years ago when United Abominations came out and that sold great...the reason Endgame is not as successful is because Megadeth had a big resurgance in popularity a few years ago thanks to Guitar Hero which is starting to wear thin...

...that and the material is uninspired and dull...I would say that the death of the Guitar Hero trend negativly affected sales of all metal music, but look at bands like Opeth and Dream Theater who's newest albums have sold even better than the stuff they put out during the whole Guitar Hero thing...nobody wants to to hear old dudes pretending to be young. The only value Mustaine has to the metal scene anymore are posts like this, which are quite frankly starting to become more annoying than funny like they used to be.
