DARK TRANQUILLITY: New Album Title Revealed - Nov. 27, 2009
Swedish melodic death metallers DARK TRANQUILLITY have set "We Are The Void" as the title of their ninth album, due in Europe on March 1, 2010 via Century Media Records. The drums for the CD were recorded at bassist Daniel Antonsson's studio, while the remaining instruments were tracked at Martin Brändström's (electronics) newly renovated Rogue music facility. The mixing duties are once again being handled by Tue Madsen (HALFORD, BEHEMOTH, KATAKLYSM, THE HAUNTED) at his Antfarm studio in Århus, Denmark. Working songtitles set to appear on the CD include "I Am The Void", "Zero Distance", "The Burden Of Love Alive", "Archangelsk" and "Memories In Reverse".

Regarding the musical direction of the band's new material, DARK TRANQUILLITY previously said, "It's a bit too early to delve into details, but the material feels diverse and fresh and covers all the facets of the DARK TRANQUILLITY sound. Those who are familiar with our songwriting process know that we always keep re-arranging and experimenting with the material until the recording starts, and while we currently have the basic foundations for around 10 songs, many things are still open. The final result is likely to surprise ourselves as well as you people."

A performance clip of "Final Resistance", taken from DARK TRANQUILLITY's recently released "Where Death Is Most Alive" CD/DVD, is available for viewing below. The footage was filmed on October 31, 2008 in Milan, Italy — a concert which makes up the DVD's main feature. Disc 1 contains 20 tracks recorded at the Milan show while disc 2 offers the "Out Of Nothing" DARK TRANQUILLITY documentary, another 21 rare live videos and all of the band's previously released promotional clips.

How exactly is the title mainstream. I mean, I don't really see "The Gallery" being a super complicated title, but that album kicked ass.

I don't like the title either. Unless it has a deeper meaning. On the surface though, it seems pretty stupid.

I am willing to overlook dumb titles if the metal is good. And these guys have a long history of producing quality stuff.

The Gallery is far more portentous than "We are the Void."

It's like Kalmah's new album being called "12 Gage." Or The Haunted's "rEVOLVEr" or Arch Enemy's "Anthems of Rebellion." Stupid stupid mainsteam shit. At least Nevermore keeps it dark. Their new album is called "The Obsidian Conspiracy." It will surely destroy Dark Tranquility's record thanks to the work of Jeff Loomis.

"We Are The Void" sounds more like a live album title. I'm not too happy about this title but I'm sure the album will be awesome. I can't wait.

What is in a title? I think you are all being a bit too "pretentious" (not portentious) about an album title. Fight Club was just about one of the most ridiculous titles for a movie, yet turned out to be a fantastic movie. The point is, I think that all though the title doesn't necessarily strike me as amazing, it IS all about the material. Comparing Nevermore to this band is asinine, it's apples to oranges. How about comparing the newest Meshuggah to the newest Cradle of Filth.

"rEVOLVEr... Stupid stupid mainsteam shit."

What? Are you dumb, or retarded?

rEVOLVEr is an awesome title. It's even got two meanings. One is EVOLVE, which is what The Haunted did on that record compared to the older stuff. The other one is Revolver, which describes a gunshot kickass fast paced thrash album. On the top of that, it's a really good record.

So get your head out of your ass and realize that the title "We are the Void" just isn't as good as we wanted it to be. :)

This guy has problems.

First, he dislikes the title because is mainstream (wtf!?), which is fine for me, its subjective opinion.

But then, he is wishing that record to be destroyed by another one? (wtf2!?).

Whoever compared Nevermore to Dark Tranquillity is a RETARD. I'm so glad DT don't have a guitar wankery master in their band like Jeff Loomis.

Forgot they were even working on a new one. I hope it's a little better than "Fiction". That album was lacking something.

Regardless of what it sounds like Niklasson's bass lines will be sorely missed by this listener!

but please don't release a special edition like a year later (Fiction). Release it up front so I don't get screwed.

That was my first thought, but DT have always had somewhat plain album titles. projector, haven, damage done, character, fiction... Yet one you hear the album it's apparent that they made the title work. Whether or not they change the name, the song titles look promising. As long as they don't dumb down the music to appeal to a wider audience i'll be happy.

This was already announced elsewhere. Bring on the hate, it will quickly end when the album hits the shelves. (Or BitTorrent.) This band is fucking untouchable, and Mikael Stanne is one of metal's best lyricists. Don't doubt his intentions with this title.

Their bassist def had a great feel for rhythm and melody, but I think Antonsson will do a nice job.

As for Nevermore, as badass as that band is, they can't "destroy" Dark Tranquillity for two reasons: 1. Two different musical genres, and 2. Both have incredible legacies and consistency, so much so that one cannot dominate the other.

Bring on the new record \m/
