HEAVEN & HELL Drummer VINNY APPICE To Undergo Surgery Tomorrow

Drummer Vinny Appice ( HEAVEN & HELL, DIO, BLACK SABBATH) will undergo surgery on his right shoulder on Monday, November 30 for an injury sustained during the last HEAVEN & HELL tour. Commented Vinny: "You can't face the audience and hit drums directly behind you night after night at an extreme volume [referring to his monstrous drum kit that surrounded him with drums — Ed.]" The surgeon expects Vinny to be back behind the kit in about five months. HEAVEN & HELL singer Ronnie James Dio was just diagnosed with the early stages of stomach cancer while the band's guitarist, Tony Iommi, recently underwent stem-cell treatment on an injured hand. HEAVEN & HELL's debut album, "The Devil You Know", entered The Billboard 200 chart at position No. 8 with first-week sales of 30,000 units. The band's June 16, 2009 concert at Museumsmeile in Bonn, Germany was professionally filmed by WDR's (German public TV) series "Rockpalast" and was premiered on July 13. Watch the "Follow The Tears" performance below. HEAVEN & HELL was forced to cancel its June 21, 2009 appearance at the Metalway Festival in Zaragoza, Spain due to back pain suffered by Iommi.

Tony and Vinnie will be fine, I'm sure. Tendon damage that requires surgery is fairly common.
Dio is the one that I'm supremely worried about. My grandmother died from stomach cancer five years ago, and it was terrible to watch.

What is going on? They're all aging. Some of them are older than your fathers (maybe some of your grand-fathers). It has to be expected!
I hope everyone will make a fast and complete recovery but this could also be the indicator that it's time to move on to calmer surroundings.

Most of you posting here are probably pretty young. I'm in my 40s and believe, stuff starts going south around this time. I'm healthy but have things starting to happen. I had never been to the hospital until this year, and same with my wife. You have to take better care of yourself, eat better, work-out, and of most importance, go to the doctor often to checked out and catch things early. Dio caught things early it looks like. And Tony and Vinnie did the right thing by getting things fixed before the damage was beyond repair. Hell, Dio is 67 years old (older than my dad) and until his cancer, was rocking harder than almost all of us. Good luck to these guys, they are legends and I look forward to new music from them.
This might not be a bad time to get the original Sabbath together one last time for a record and a tour, Ronnie will be down for at least a year. Tony is healing nicely from what I've read.

Heaven and Hell shouldn't let these three setbacks stop the show.
While Tony's down, they should have Eddie Van Halen fill in on guitar. And while Ronnie's getting better, they should have David Lee Roth take the mic. And, I don't know, the Appice guy, maybe they should have Alex Van Halen fill in for him. Nobody would know the difference, it would be just like every other Heaven and Hell show. I know everything.

I love this band Heaven and Hell. We the fans of this band have to think positive. Tony Iommi is already healing. Before you know Vinny will be back playing and my thoughts on Ronnie James Dio he will take a little longer remember he is in the early stage so this can be cured. Long Live Ronnie Jame Dio! The Devil You Know was the best CD in 2009 and Heaven and Hell is consistently one of the best live shows.

I saw the first Heaven and Hell Tour they did in 2007. It kicked a lot of ass. Hope they all get better.... all the guys in this band are Legendary.

That's all I can really say...damn....it's hard to believe that DIO is 67 years old, I saw them live on the holy diver tour, my first concert ever.....he has always put on the best shows, and has always shown consideration for his fans....a true musician and performer....Stomach Cancer is bad shit....I wish him the best, and would love to see him perform live again....as far as Vinny and Tony goes, that comes with age and stretching and pushing yourself to the limits night after night....they are getting older (as are we), and as one dude mentioned above, shit starts to happen once you hit 40, and get's worse from that point.....these guys are the grandfathers of metal.....imo, one of the most talented acts in all of hard rock and metal......I wish them all the best, especially DIO in his battle with cancer.
