Metallica is flat out cool, and they do a great job on these songs. So cool to hear Ray Davies with Metallica, blended nicely!

I'm the only one that thought this whole thing was a giant pieve of shit... The only coll thing throughout the whole show was Jeff Beck and Jeff Beck with Billy Gibbons.
The show was more like a eulogy than an anniversary.

Jubijuju is absolutely right though. Maybe he posts it over and over though... I haven't had the time to notice.
Most pro drummers (including myself) always strive to improve, learn new things, and get better every day at all the little things. Lars does not. In fact, it is pretty obvious that he was a far better drummer in 1985 than he is now. He can barely play the songs anymore, and there is no fucking reason for that to happen. For Whom The Bell Tolls above is a trainwreck. The only thing Lars has left is his meter, he has always been very steady and able to "reign in" the other guys when they tend to rush through the songs.
You could take a list of 1000 drummers from a list of popular metal bands and pick one randomly and he (or even she) will be far better than Lars. None of them have accomplished what he has in music, but at least they have pride and appreciation for their craft, which Lars lost decades ago. Metallica would be a great band with another drummer -- and I have been a fan since the first album -- but as of now it is hard to watch with what Lars playing has become.

But, at the end of the day, how many of these "pro drummers" have forged a multi-album, multi-million dollar career of creating SONGS that people want to BUY & LISTEN TO.
Sometimes it's not about the technical ability of an artist, but about how they put their art forward & I'd much rather see Lars bashing away & looking like he's totally digging the crowd than see some machine playing mechanically perfect beats but having no humanity in their playing. Both would be a fine thing but it's not common.
Lars has never professed to be THE world's greatest drummer, he just happens to be A drummer in the world's greatest band but they wouldn't be where they are today without him.

Having sold a shitload of albums, having a fanbase that does not even allow anybody to criticize their gods TO ME sounds like a fucking big legacy. And this is exactly the reason why he with his non-drumming is so embarrassing. No one expects Justice style drumming from him anymore, but his lack of ability starts to go beyond annoying. Why? Because he is getting worse and worse each year.
The sound tracks on the DVD from Nimes are as much an original recording as Priest'S Unleashed in the East.
Call me Bugs Bunney if the Double Bass patterns in One and Blackened were played actually played by Lars on stage.

Saw them twice on this tour and I thought they were great, but am I the only one who thought James' voice was unbearable (late 90's style)? Whatever studio magic they pulled on DM, I sure hope they can do it again. Why is it that they can pull off standard tuning for months in the studio and then immediately go flat on tour? I'm also coming to the unfortunate realization that my worship of Hammett when I was a teenager in the 80's was a bit overblown. He's gotten pretty sloppy live too.

Watch this video and say that he still sucks... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5bL0zroutPU Or watch this one... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FqNtPkHFqC0
Both have great double bass and near-perfect rhythm. Probably one of the most influential drummers of all time and he made the album that changed drumming forever... And Justice For All
Get over yourselves. He's not a NEW AGE metal drummer. He's 45 and playing 2 1/2 hour shows every other night and doing a great job.
Guaranteed he's a better drummer/musician/writer than everyone on this board. Just because he doesn't play lightning double bass doesn't mean he sucks.
