DAATH Developing 'Brand New Sound' For Forthcoming Album - Feb. 9, 2010
Atlanta-based extreme metal quintet DAATH has commenced work on the follow-up to last year's "The Concealers" for a late 2010 release via Century Media Records.

Commented the band: "Unpredictability and chaos are two themes defining the times we live in. Everything about DAATH's career has been married to these themes. We've accepted them as beautiful and have learned to love the ride. Despite the chaos there is one thing that is for certain: we will always be pushing the boundaries of what we do.

"This fall we will bring you a record you are not expecting to hear from us. This venture will have more to offer than our previous efforts.

"We are committed to always improving our sound, our songs, and our playing. It will not be said that our next record will be the most brutal sound we've created yet, or that it's going to be the our heaviest to date. That would be cliché. What you can expect to hear are really catchy, intense songs with soaring riffs that will encourage one to hit the repeat button. Arena-sized choruses that will remain in your head whether you like it or not. Innovative, ground-breaking solos. Bashing — blasting — yet dynamic drumming. An uncompromised low end paired with unique synth work. Collectively, these elements direct the left turns we have always chosen to take. This will not be 'The Hinderers Part II', 'The Re-Concealers', or 'The Conhinderers'. This will be a brand new sound.

"Many important facts have happened over the past year. The first being that we put out 'The Concealers', which we consider to be the first true DAATH record. The second fact being that we toured without [drummer] Kevin Talley. Kevin needed a sabbatical in 2009 and we gave it to him. We took some fantastic fill-ins and had some legendary times. Each one of those tours was great in their own regard. We played in front of some brand new audiences in brand new places and hung out with some of our closest friends. We learned our songs go beyond who is in the band. We also learned we prefer to play them with Kevin.

"To clear up any confusion, Kevin Talley is still in DAATH.

"Another highlight from the past few months is [guitarists] Emil Werstler and Eyal Levi signing a deal with Magna Carta Records to do a series of instrumental releases. Joined by drummer Sean Reinert of CYNIC, artistic limits were pushed into territories only previously dreamed of.

"There's an element of boundary-less music on the first Levi / Werstler release (due out spring 2010). We've never had the chance to really explore this with DAATH. What was learned from doing this record is the need to be making music which pushes our boundaries constantly.

"The next few years will be marked by many releases from our camp via DAATH and Levi / Werstler; as well as various projects still in the planning stages.

"There is too much music in each of our psyches to be limited to one album every two years. This may work for some artists, but not for us.

"While this recent undertaking may seem elaborate and obscure; we assure DAATH fans on every level, we have total control of our art.

"We look forward to bringing you the album of our collective career this fall."

I met that guy that left the band last year, hanging out in a coffee shop in Atlanta. He didn't paint a pretty picture of his (ex)bandmates: primadonas, which is what this arse sounds like in this press release.

Bet they can't stand the fact that they're sucking on Mastodon's fumes, so they're looking for a more popular sound.

how the fuck are they coasting on mastadons fumes????????
they dont sound ANYTHING like mastadon.
theyre not touring with them either (as far as i know)
(are they from atlanta as well, perhaps? even so, thats still a weak excuse)
they also didnt mention them at all in their press release.
and btw dickhead, press releases ALWAYS talk up the band/album. take it with a grain of salt. ever seen one before??

sooooo....................
why don't you go back to bed in your parents basement, you retarded mastadon fanboy??????

they are one of the most musically exciting bands out there at the moment. they have a megadeth type vibe to their music as it doesn't always follow a pattern of verse chorus verse chorus.

Learn how to read, fucktard. SUCKING on Mastodon's fumes, meaning they're trailing far behind them.

I don't listen to either bands - never even heard Daath. But a band suddenly trying to be "catchy" reeks of desperation for a bigger audience.

And yes, they're both from Atlanta, if you knew your ass from your elbow.

Not sure about anyone else on here, but I dont like what i read in that paragraph. I really enjoyed both The Hinders and The Concealers. I hope they don't try and become a cheesy arena rock band like Nickelback.

If my memory is correct, Cryptopsy said something along these lines before they released "The Unspoken King" (and we all know how poorly received that album was by many fans.)

I will be checking out the new Daath release, but i just hope they don't "sell out" as IMO they are probably one of the best metal bands to come out in the last 10 years.

Pretty much all bands in the history of music are trying to be catchy. If you put yourself out there for people to listen, obviously you are hoping that people like it. Catchy is a subjective term as well. What "catches" one person, may not "catch" another.

Here's an example! Some people find the Beatles "catchy." I don't.

So what does Mastodon have to do with this?

i think daath needs to stop ripping off food from whole foods- they keep saying how the the food is "pure" yet filled with no imagination- i think maybe if they put a little more time into shopping and less time filling the basket with whole grain breads and such- we'd be in for some sorta frosty fiasco!

Can't wait, Emil is one of the sickest guitar players around. There's no doubt that this new album will be epic. Fuck the haters. If you don't like it, don't fucking listen to it. Christ.

Well both of their albums are good but my favorite song by them is 'From the Blind' from their first album. It just keeps building from one riff to another with each one topping the last. The solo on it is absolutely perfect too. It's really just a flawless track.

I hope that they're not moving further away from that style. I understand what he's saying in that the band comes up with 'catchy' songs, because they've certainly done that in the past, just as long as the aggression is in there too.
