Blinded AC/DC Fan To Sue Venue
- Mar. 9, 2010
|
|
John Simpson of Australia's South-East Advertiser reports: A Morningside quadriplegic blinded in a freak accident at an AC/DC concert says he intends to sue the event's organizers. Terry Watson, 32, was watching the sold-out show on February 27 from a special raised podium for wheelchairs when a mate accidentally hit the control stick on his motorized chair, sending him hurtling off the platform and on to the floor of the arena one meter below. At the moment of impact, the end of a metal prod strapped to Watson's hand speared into his right eye, penetrating his brain. Read the entire report from South-East Advertiser.

Its sad and all, but I fail to see how this is the venues fault? If anything, he should be sueing his mate.

he wants to sue the venue because there was nothing in place to prevent people from falling off the podium. At least, that's the way I read it.

that sure is bad luck. but why sue the event organisers? They sure didn't do this intentionally, and this was just a freak accident, man. They're just regular folks doing the best they can for even handicapped people. If you people could see the human rights violations happening in other parts of the globe, this is NOTHING. People take waaaaay too much for granted.

But very sad. If it was me, I'd top myself after such rotten luck.

What the fuck is happening to the people at AC/DC shows this year?!?! Quads are getting fucked up. A biker dude gets arrested for MURDER. Another guy got glassed in the neck. I think there might have been one or two more instances where fans got fucked up. I'll just wait for the dvd, pack a fat one and hope that no one kicks down my door and shoots me in the head as I'm pressing play.

The venue would be partly at fault for having an area that would be vulnerable to falls, which is what this sounds like. However, HE TOO would be partially to blame, since it's irresponsible of a person in a motorized wheelchair to keep the chair in the "on" position if he's supposed to be stationary for a period of time - This is not just to conserve battery power, but a safety precaution.
What happened is terribly unfortunate, but is not entirely the fault of the venue. Who knows, maybe his "mate" tried to put him out of his misery, where's the lawsuit against *that* guy? If he is not sued as well, then this might seem like a cash-grab attempt - But given the gravity of his injury, it's not a set-up.
I'd probably be asking, so, was this AC/DC concert worth it?

hmm im in a wheelchair too, and ive never been to a concert in Aus where there hasnt been at least a rail to stop wheelchairs from going over any edges of the wheelchair sections. silly bugger should have turned his chair off. heaps of people always bump into control sticks on electric wheelchairs, so its just common sense to turn them off when youre not moving!

As if this guy didn't already have it bad. Sheesh, this guy has been screwed enough and this happens. So if you think you got it bad people just remember poor Mr. Terry Watson. Already a quadriplegic and for all the suffering he has had to endure, what does he get? A metal rod thru the eye and into the brain. Not to mention his AC/DC concert ruined. Very sad.
